Andy's 'Don't Do' list is pretty much what I'm doing now having hit a mental roadblock writing my third book. One of these days, I'll give his list a try and start don'ting.

Absolutely marvelous to get a sneak peek into the mind of this creator of worlds! I must have read (and listened to) his books a hundred times now and I had yet to learn about the person behind them. And I have to say, that from what I saw of this person, it makes the books all the more dear to me now. Thank you for this glimpse into your world! Please keep doing the work and let us participate in your fruits of labor. (Just in case you ever read this. 😅)

"Nobody would want to read a 40 page wikipedia article on..." I remember the dry science journals in Stanislaw Lem's Solaris as the greatest bits of that tome of a book. :D

He said he learned a lot about prose. I would love to hear what he learned. Everyone says if you keep writing, you would improve. I would rather hear techniques.

Techniques are absolutely helpful, but the reason why your prose improves if you keep writing is that you get a feel for words and sentences and paragraphs, etc. Like any skill, there are three components to learning writing: 1) looking at how the masters do it (reading), 2) thinking about the craft and learning the techniques and patterns, and 3) putting your hands to practice and getting a feel for writing. Really excellent writers are going to do all three. I'm not trying to invalidate your desire for techniques, just point out how the ability to use, development, and discovery of techniques come with practice.
