It depends on context. The best argument for literal 24 hour days is that generally (but NOT always) when used in an ordinal way it usually means 24 hour days. If I remember correctly there are at least a couple of occurrences were it means other than that when used in a ordinal way. There are at least two camps among theologians on this issue. It is not cut and dried, and anyone's exegesis is in the end only opinion. Moreover, these details are not critical to the two many personal goals we have as Christians. One is to be saved, and the other is to conform to the likeness of Christ. These questions are interesting, and great fodder for discussion, but in no way should be divisive in the body of Christ.

You should study cosmology then if you think the universe can only exist due to a supernatural reason. How was your experience before you were born? There’s no evidence after death will be any different than what it was like before birth.

Well I do believe in a source/Creator/intelligent mind of all things, but you shouldn't base your belief on the fear of death. When you die, you wouldn't even know you are dead, you would just be returning to your initial state(what ever you were before you were born) and no, you wouldn't be seeing blackness.

And through this neutral way of being raised, and a lot of thinking until into my 20's, I became an atheist. I'm guessing you come from a very religious background. My advice to you: don't just accept everything people tell you. Be open to other explainations. Dare to think in other ways than is being told to you. At least we know the 'explosion', as you call it, actually happened. from there on we can pretty much explain how the universe came about and how life originated. It does not require a God. There are still lots of questions left. Filling in the gap with 'God' is very unsatisfying to me. In the early days people did the same thing explaining lightning, rain, the mountains and everything else they did not understand. "God has to exist, otherwise I can't understand it all" does not really make any sense. If the IDEA of a God comforts you, I wish you the best. That might work of course :).

According to scripture (Gen 1:16) the sun wasn't even made until creation day 4. Since this is the case, it's likely that since the earth was not spinning on it's axis and encountering a 24 hour day and night from the sun, that what the scripture calls a day isn't a 24 hour period at this point. We know that with the Lord a day is as a thousand years, and vice versa, which suggests that God doesn't always call a "day" 24 hours in time. Maybe, just maybe, it's not a young earth at all.

Agreed. Most science supports young earth but they have to keep increasing the age of the earth to account for evolution. Planets are still giving off way more energy than they get from the sun. If it were even millions of years old, that would not be the case. The moon slowly moves further from the earth, less than a million years ago, it would have been touching the earth. I don’t understand how the stars prove an old earth. God created the stars and galaxies, fully formed, then brought the light to the earth. If that wasn’t the case, we wouldn’t see their light at all. The universe is expanding faster than the speed of light, so since the galaxies are moving away from us faster than their light can reach us, their light should never reach us. And they are moving away from us from every side, so if we’re not the exact center of the universe, we’re pretty close to it.
