Does a reality to be described by science exist? Carlo Rovelli (Aix-Marseille Université, France) talks about "Relational Quantum Mechanics". This is a lecture of a series on philosophical and fundamental investigation in science.

Rovelli's take on realism seems to me vital for science, yet it is so rare. What's common, even in the most brilliant minds, is completely forgetting about quantum mechanics when trying to establish a solid and deterministic ground to anchor realism (which is not posible, as pointed out by Rovelli). What's common is a so-called realism that is confused by nominalism... which Rovelli tries and tries to explain to everyone interrupting him when he tries to respond to their questions.

Distorted audio. Cannot understand. Auto captions help a bit, but not much.

Lmao, I love when it says "[music]" and he's just talking

The universe is not quantum mechanical. There is no evidence for that. Our knowledge of the world is certainly probabilistic. Its not the same thing

No evidence 😂 straight from the Creationist Pseudoscience lunatic bin.

Why "certainly probabilistic"? Bohm Interpretation allows deterministic particle paths for single particles traversing the double-slit experiment. No probability needed. On the other hand, QM is found everywhere in the tiny regime. You can't change reality by simply stating it in a changed way. You have to give a rationale.

@@lepidoptera9337 A typical comment by someone who probably knows no physics. I challenge you to give examples and citations. Bohm predicts the same thing because both theories work. But Bohm uses deterministic particle paths instead of mystical probability-based axioms combined with wave/particle duality to explain the actual double slit experiment.

@@lepidoptera9337 Again, you write in a very judgemental way, even though you have no understanding of Bohm's theory. What arrogance. The randomness comes from the fact that light sources, including collimated-beam lasers, generate photons in random positions relative to one edge of the beam. Thus when a single photon is sent through the double-slit experiment, its path enters the slit at a random position from one edge of the slit. The random position is called its "x value", and determines where in the pattern at the screen the photon will generate a dot. The entire path of the photon is deterministic throughout its lifetime from its source in the laser to its destination on the screen.
