The original video was actually a 20-minute piece breaking down much more of Jones' skill set, but my hard drive was playing up and I lost 50% of the save data, big shame, but I hope you enjoyed it anyway. Roy Jones is the 'best' ever
They're casuals most actual boxing fans have Jones in their top 10 that's why most people with careers around the ring and actual boxers consider him one of the best ever
@@RS3Ads well it's just a game... but I'd also say it depends what era of Tyson, d'amato or king?? And what era of Jones jr? He held titles in 4 weight classes. I assume you mean heavy weight, since Tyson never went down any weight classes ( that I know of ) ... I'd say Jones jr. would lose when Tyson was with d'amato, but Jones jr. would take the win when Tyson was with Don King.
Easily one of the most entertaining boxers to watch ever. With his feinting, his crazy chicken style he got from watching roosters, his balance, his incredible accuracy from all angles, you knew when you watched one of his fights, you might see something you'd never seen before and that nobody else could pull off. With Roy, I was always prepared to be wowed.
@@zuam7645 cause hes faught in 6 different weight classes and everytime you move to a different class you have to adapt and hes won a title all 6 classes hes faught in . Name a boxer that has ever faught in that many classes
king ron ummmm Floyd Mayweather. And he didn’t lose. Plus Floyd has fundamentals and skills. This is why he didn’t even lose at an old age. Once Roy athleticism left he was done
It blows my mind that people hold his current record as gospel. He only fights to make money. In his prime there was NEVER a more entertaining fighter EVER.
Why do you engage in a conversation about boxing who would even mention or utter his record as evidence to support the argument he wasnt great.. Just like the idiots who say mayweather runs away.....they've eliminated themselves from potentially being labeled as a moderately knowledgeable casual.
Iron Mike dont forget..Mid to late 80's,the intensity in the air at a Tyson fight was UNRIVALLED!!!...Caused grown men to puddle the canvas.Roy didnt get hit while Iron Mike proved he had a jaw,not a mere chin.I'd never speak of greats without Iron Mike.He was valuable to boxing history as well.
@@MrRondonmon Roy was 39 in that fight, 3 years older than calzaghe. It doesn't sound like much but at that age it makes a huge difference. A prime Roy Jones Jr would wipe the floor with a prime calzaghe.
Sam Carter totally agree, definitely my favourite fighter. He made some crap decisions fight wise but it doesn't take away anything from the man's talent. Truly a god amongst insects. Heartbreaking he was robbed in the Olympics.
It was such a pleasure to watch Roy Jones in his prime. He moved up and down weight and destroyed everyone he fought. His losses later in career dont reflect how great he was.
@will I watched Ali and I Agree with above comment.. Also Joe Luis and I Still Agree... Roy Jones did things and threw punches from crazy angles... Naturally..
@will ali was 212 in his prime and couldnt fight inside. i dont think roy beats any big heavyweights......oh but wait a second. john ruiz was 6'2 and didnt stand a chance against the speed after round 1.....stfu and go sniff some more glue....fkn chowder for brains buds
@will foreman was getting eaten alive by moorer. buddy you know nothing about boxing.....ali tired out foreman. he didnt out point or out box him....you must sniff glue
Joe calzaghe was a slap expert, not a true fighter, he just had a lot of heart and footwork, he wasn't a joy to watch in terms of his punching, he sucked really
Up to the end of his prime, age 35, he was unbeatable. (49-1, loss by DQ) He had no weaknesses Best blend of speed, power, charisma and defense I've ever seen If you were building the perfect fighter, it would end up a lot like RJJ
Roy Jones Jr was certainly the most beautiful fighter to watch. His perfect timing, speed and power was incredible to watch. Whether he's the best ever, I'm not so sure. Ray Robinson might have something to say on that.
Had he done that the conversation about Champ would be unequal in my opinion. Because unlike Mayweather Jr. he was loved by the fans and the disqualification loss was followed up by a viscous knockout.
MrJduke40 Roy Jones Jr was was way more exciting too watch over Mayweather , but Roy went up & down & should've just max out in the cruiserweight & retired after unifying the belts in that weight class if anything.
@@LesnarBuiltThePyramids I here you but he dominated his competition. I just think he was so much better, strong, fast , hungrier than his peers he made good fighters look like bums. Like Micheal Jordan. He was so much better then his contemporaries kids not say his era wasn't all that.
@@LesnarBuiltThePyramids talking to soon ....Tyson heart of a monster...u could hit him with a bat in his chin he wouldn't even flinch. ROY is to professional tactical fighter...not a destroyer like Iron Mike Tyson....
he got rocked. he got shook, he got stopped, he got touched, and they had to move his ass onto freakshow fights... now Mayweather on the other hand can stand by this. he will not be touched. he will not be stopped. he will not move from being the best and he will not get rocked or shook or lose...
He was definitely my favorite boxer, I use to work on a rooster farm, my boss knew him and had pics taken with Roy. He was my dads favorite as well, we bought the ppv when Roy lost by DQ and I believe that was the last fight my dad got to see before passing away but either way He is and will always be my guy in boxing. I loved the video game fight night with Roy. I miss them days.
A rooster farm? They just made roosters? How'd they get the roosters pregnant? Oh I get it... the roosters help out around the farm. Idk what I was thinking.
this dude got no respect when he was fighting because they said he had nobody to fight. james toney was 44 and 0 when roy dismantled him. he was considered the p4p best until this guy took em all apart. by far the best fighter ive ever seen in a ring any time anywhere. in his prime i think nobody under heavyweight touches this man period.
@@marshalllsmith2095 well mayweather lost 2 fights they gave to him if you go watch his whole career. also should have been disqualified against juda. jones in his prime with mayweather in his prime was considered way above mayweather so that arguement is fkn funny. go watch José Luis Castillo 1. if you think that man never lost your as blind as his fans
@@benrobbo2902 he won against tarver at age 34 he lost at age 35 for the first time ever. The DQ he got is not him being beaten because no one could beat him in his prime. He went from age 18-34 without losing a single fight and 10+ years without losing a single round.
Old Mongoose, Archie Moore is the most gifted fighter ever. He retired with over 130 professional knock outs (more KOs than most have actual fights) and whenever someone knocked him down, he'd get up and knock them out! He also had a beautiful, beautiful style and technique that can study for hours and hours and hours.
...for someone with such a fancy screen name, I'd expect better grammar and punctuation! And how can it be 'the impossible' if 10 or even more have achieved it??? Grammar, punctuation AND logical reasoning, all need attention. Next term, you must try harder.
I concur, and to me, his only losses came about due to "FATHER TIME", which will eventually defeat all(Fedor E...Anderson Silva, Mike Tyson, Ali...) who continue on past their primes.
didn't stop Hopkins Mayweather Archie Moore Adonis Stevens Roy relied on talant . He never had a great jab relied on his great hand speed and power all offense never had defense. people forget he got knockdown early in his career
It didn't stop them from continuing on, no, but it(FATHER TIME) did stop their REIGN on top/it stopped them from continuing to be number 1. And for some, who have/did continued on, past their prime, like Roy Jones, it has been detrimental to their health, for back to back knock outs, like RJ has had, is of no value to any boxer, especially one past his prime. Unless you consider back to back knock outs/head trauma some type of honor act/accomplishment or prize for a fighter past his prime? And Mayweather has retired(he(FM) has respected FATHER TIMES request); he's(FM) even stated he's not as on point, in the ring, as he use to be. And, in one of his recent interviews, where he talks about his uncle's well being, which is fading, he stated he wanted to retire from boxing, at the right time, so he could keep his health in check. So, as I've stated, FATHER TIME will, eventually, defeat "ALL", who continue on(Mayweather has retired, so he has ceased to continue on) past their prime.
8Source Energy8 but he lost to tarver who was older than Roy, Roy had crazy talent buuuuuut he used his athleticism to make up for the fundementals he lacked .... it wasn't Father Time, it was more of the right fighter would eventually get through .... p.s Father Time didn't catch silva usada did
This is EXACTLY what I've been saying... Roy Jones was like a glitch in reality... He was untouchable in his prime.. Did not possess the "classic" skill set other greats did before.. But he was like this superhuman athlete, gifted with speed, reflexes and power all packaged into one freak-boxer.. I know he doesn't have the greatest resume of all time.. But I would put my money on a prime Roy Jones Jr against any middleweight, super-midleweight and light heavyweight through history... Without a doubt...
Man shut up. I grew up watching everything lookin like it was filmed on a piece of toast. And never thought anything about it lmao. Now you mad cause it’s only 720?
JIMNI Experience "The greatest" takes into account the historical significance of a fighter, the degree of dificulty of his opponents, and many things like that. "The best" is just about the fighters skills.
ROY JONES JR IS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO BEING THE BEST BOXER OF ALL TIME HE DONT EVEN MAKE MY TOP TEN. THE NIGGA BEEN PUT TO SLEEP MORE THAN A BABY WITH A WARM MILK BOTTLE. THE FUCK OUTTA HERE BRO
Devin Corbett Lol who cares about being old and fighting ? What kind of a statement is that? Who develops their style based on hitting your prime when you old? His style depended on this God given speed he has and being an elite athlete.
James H nah I didn't mean to say it like that I meant it was u fortunate that it only matched when he was younger Cus as he got older he struggled badly like many fighters who don't wanna accept the truth that they are getting old . The thing is Floyd is hated but he did what he had to to keep winning and that was changing his style
"most complete"? Wouldn´t that mean that he displayed ALL the tools to beat guys? I think Jones´s fights all looked kinda similar so there is not really any telling if he got it all or not
Put it this way. James Toney, in his prime one of the greatest fighters ever (very arguably top 100). Roy won 11 rounds and knocked Toney down without breaking a sweat. Shows how good he was when he can humiliate an all time great
I'm surprised you(BDM) haven't already did a video like this, for your videos are on point, too. Unless you have, and I just haven't ran across it. For I've learned a lot from your videos. So I'm quite surprised to know that you haven't made a video about RJ's style or abilities in the ring.
Roy Jones moving down back to light-heavyweight to defend his undisputed title didn't go down well. Roy Jones pre Tarver was 48-1(avenged his disqualification) having become middleweight champion, super-middleweight champion, Light-Heavyweight champion and Heavyweight champion. He beat Bernard Hopkins, James Toney, Virgil Hill and John Ruiz. Post Ruiz he beat the likes of Antonio Tarver(debatable), Felix Trinidad and Jeff Lacy. Lost to Tarver by KO, lost every round but 1 against Joe Calzaghe, gets KO by Danny Green in 1 round then losses the next fight to Hopkins on points. He is still fighting till this day and has already fought and is more active then Amir Khan
Brendan Dorman MMA He still had more fights in him after Ruiz, he just should have stayed at heavy or cruiser weight. He gained over 20 lbs of muscle to fight Ruiz and in his next fight he had to lose it all to fight Tarver. He went from a 195 lbs in shape, solid "heavy weight" to a depleted 175 lbs light heavy weight.
INOUE is the man! He's the perfect boxer. He is powerful, fast, accurate and he can defend well. He seems like a man who got built from a lab. He's a machine
They say Willie Pep won a round without throwing a single punch. But want to s*** on Mayweather every time he's in the ring SMH go ahead casual fans respond and cussed me out real boxing fans y'all know what I'm talking about
ROY JONES JR IS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO BEING THE BEST BOXER OF ALL TIME HE DONT EVEN MAKE MY TOP TEN. THE NIGGA BEEN PUT TO SLEEP MORE THAN A BABY WITH A WARM MILK BOTTLE. THE FUCK OUTTA HERE BRO
Alien Intention Antonio Tarver is easy work Bernard Hopkins proved this with simple orthodoxies boxing skills that Roy lacks. Glen Johnson who was a B rate fighter at best and super old beat the snot shit out of Roy simply outworking him and walking him down in the high guard.
Alien Intention simple shit these boxers proved that Roy didn’t know how to box. He can fight but he sucks at boxing because he lacks boxing skills because he relies 100 percent on speed and athleticism instead of traditional technical boxing skills
Alien Intention these guys nearly killed Roy Jones Jr in the ring he suffered very stiff knockouts from each of these fighters the type of Ko’s that end careers
el lobo blanco ...the could have, the should have...yea, if only, but that aside, there is no best ever. The greatest? The best? It is all subjective, and I would never go there. Ask a panel of boxing historians who might be the “ best” and you'll get varying responses, as it should be.
@@mikeyfiftythree6237 i agree with what you're trying to say, but Roy is the best ever to HIM, so there's no subjection at all lol. I don't think i could think of a boxer with more unadulterated talent than RJJ, Sugar Ray Robinson and Mike Tyson come to mind but even they aren't on his level in my opinion.
True, but that's the problem. The mind can still have the same focus that the body doesn't as time catches up to us all. You can only do what you can only for so long.you can stop or will be stopped it's just a matter of time
Roy in his prime is absolutely the best I've ever seen! The total package as far as skill and power. My other favorites I grew up watching is Ali, Leonard and Tyson. Roy kind of put all three of those guys together with his skill.
I used to Box at Bulldog Boxing here in Florida! And regret the one day i didnt go, because turns out he showed up to my Gym and took pictures with everyone! 🤦♂️
@@trevonjameson350 please we are on RU-vid; I've seen plenty of his fights on RU-vid. Sorry he just didn't have the mind-blowing handspeed like Roy . Roy did everything better than sugar Ray. Sorry but athletes get better with time. Athletes today are just more skilled than old athletes. Roy Jones would've massacred him . Sugar was great for his era but please save that bullshit for someone else
I was Golded gloves in my city for 3 years ages 15-18. Had a record of 11-0 till I went outta state.. just cause your the best in your town don't mean shit. Lost 6 out of my first 10 fights when traveling an when I say lost I mean, These dudes whooped my ass in the ring more then any vet or trainer ever had
Roy was great. two problems. he did not face a lot of top notch competion. Toney was his best win. he had a glass jaw. he didn't just get knocked out, he got put in comas! Sugar, Hearns, Duran would all put him to sleep.
Roy is in danger if he cannot keep up with the decay of time. Mike is showing he still has it. Here predicting that Roy is going to get absolutely mauled. Done woke up a sleeping Lion.
Yeah idk how RJJ can react to Mike Tyson. I'm pretty sure Mike will just walk out, duck and weave past his jabs and then shatter Roy's jaw from multiple different angles putting him straight to sleep. If Roy wants to win he'll have to keep jabbing, moving and avoiding until Mike tires out and Roy wins but I don't think that's gonna happen. I don't think Roy can handle the power and style of Tyson since his defense isn't great and he's bad when he's on the ropes or on the back foot, so I just see Mike Tyson winning via KO early on after Jones Jr couldn't handle his aggression and Tyson got some good hits in. If it goes the distance then RJJ will win but I don't think that'll happen. Mike is just too powerful and aggressive and too dangerous.
“First I’d like to thank GOD for everything I was able to accomplish tonight... PENSACOLA IN THA HOUSE!!!” RJJ in every post fight ring interview. His on going interview feud with Larry Merchant was pure comedy. I remember one time Larry couldn’t or wouldn’t interview him post fight and he went on a rant asking questions to himself as if Larry was doing the interview. RJJ is my favorite boxer of all time but I admit I’m totally biased since I was born and raised in Pensacola, FL. I remember my mom and dad taking me to the airport in 88 the day RJJ flew in from getting robbed at the Olympics. We (the city) always supported him and he always supported us. Absolutely a stand up guy.
@@HD-rj4jk in general I would say no, cos I hate he cowboys lol but being objective. His achievements would say he is. He leads his sport in all categories for his position.
RetroR0bbie he only got up to 190. That's wasn't the reason. He got knocked out and it fucked his brain up. He was never the same after getting clipped. Not the Goat. But was good.
I think he should have retired after the first Tarver fight. He proved everything about his heart and how he'd react when challenged and answered every question people had about him. Retiring after that fight and saying that dropping back down to Light Heavyweight just took a tole on his body that he wouldn't be able to perform the same way in the future, and no one would have blamed him.
joshua bapp Agree. Weight thing is an exaggerated myth for me which has become a catch all excuse, like with Tyson fans blaming Cus D' Amato's death. And why did Roy get knocked out? Poor defence, as hinted at in this video. His luck finally ran out against a big puncher like Tarver. I also think he had suspect chin anyway. Not the GOAT but very good is also my view with Roy.
RetroR0bbie agreed👍 Losing 20+ lbs of muscle is TOTALLY different from losing fat. Another thing to is RJ should've taken a year+ off to let his body recuperate.
Lucas Maximus Tyson fell off when he fired Kevin Rooney. He became a head hunter instead of the complete boxer he was trained to be. Look at what happened to his defense when Rooney left. Like night and day.
He's always been my favorite and I've study him and I'm not gonna lie I admired his style blind you with my left so you don't see my right coming and thats how you knock am out that punch they can't see coming I weigh 180 and shot from my hips never fought in the ring just in prison 12 years
@nallen100 He lost in Tokyo and was hung over and his life was going down hill. he beat Riddk Bowe who was 6,5. Tyson in His prime would beat all of them.
I love Ali, and being a Georgia boy I love Holyfield. The first time I saw Roy Jones Jr I was amazed. I'm only a casual boxing fan, so I don't know a whole lot about the sport, but I could tell this dude was special.
No fighter has a bigger impact on the world than Ali, anyway between Tyson and Roy Jones yes Tyson was more popular. Who was more skilled and dominated the boxing world harder? Easily Roy Jones.. dude fought for like over 10 years without losing a single round. He was so far beyond his opponents that he wasn’t even fighting to win anymore because him getting the win was absolute, he was fighting to entertain the audience.
My favourite boxer is always going to be Tyson, but very close is Roy Jones Jr, i have never seen any fighter with so much natural talent and boxing skill.
Idk who Tyson fought but I seen a lot a lot of his highlights and I heard and say he’s one of the greatest but a lot of people say he fought a lot of bums and when he fought real fighters he lost
He was so good he destroyed his weight class and moved up looking for trouble , he wasnt trying to protect his record like a safe punk bitch, so in short he was never caught sleeping you casual fan
Roy was 35 years old and past his prime when he finally lost. He had to cut 20 pounds of muscle to come back down from heavyweight which is what he never recovered from. He lost speed and at 35 he wasn't going to get it back.
