everyone is looking for truth using either empirical and Anecdotal that's why neither can argue (religion vs science) with each other they should work together not fight science helps make the environment better (yes i know it destroys also but that is lack of understanding we will get there look at fusion reactors etc they are trying) and mystic helps making the self better we need the balance like yin and yang

Believing we have the right answers is the easy path; you stop questioning and thinking hard. Accepting life is full of questions we can only try to figure out, that's the hard way. And to ilustrate my point better, if you've watched Star Wars, Mystic is the dark (and easy) side and Science is the Jedies. Saludos.

Yoga isn't a religion. It's more like a science. It's point is to observe what we are through our own perception. To do that you have to disconnect perception from your body and thoughts. There's a part of you that knows it pervades everything in reality and it creates everything at the same time. So trying to understand the physical through logic is a never-ending path because as we put our energy towards it, it creates more of it. You can only go beyond it by learning to go beyond how you typically use your mind. Consciousness pervades everything, and it's just an illusion that it's separate. It has all the intelligence and knowledge of this universe that you could ever seek.

Evan Delisle i agree with you but lets think about questions. Is it not the true origin of existence? I mean.. imagine nothing. And out of nothing something occurres. That process inbetween must be a desire to know, curiosity. Thats atleast how i explain beginning of existence. Now to put that in perspective, the curiousity would be for example the big bang. The big bang would be the result of a entitied desire to know. It doesnt really exists but its curious. Does it make any sence?

It is so humbling to see an Indian mystic and an American scientist have such a peaceful and respectful discussion. If only every American could be this open minded towards these topics the US would begin a much needed transformation... And I am saying this as an American just to be clear. If I tried to show this to my own father he wouldn't even consider watching it simply because of sadhguru's appearance. On top of that he would lose all faith in me as a person for following and agreeing with sadhguru.

I love how they respect each others perspectives and backgrounds. This is not a debate to humiliate each other and prove the other wrong, its about understanding so that a unified or enhanced perspective can be had. This is how debates should go. Also the people commenting on this can learn a thing or two about that, I don't understand why people feel the need to be so rude to others who have a different perspective. Lets share, not fight.

Meditation is the scientific method turned inward. Applying the scientific method outward is fine for mechanism, but it will not bring us purpose, meaning, ultimate understandings. Only inward can satisfy the big questions. As a scientist who meditates, I can attest to this.
@Muck-qy2oo

@@contemplateeternity8398 Life is not mechanical nor logical. It's a small part of it. That's why our experience and "understanding" is always limited.
@contemplateeternity8398
@contemplateeternity8398 3 года назад
@@Muck-qy2oo Ultimately you are correct in the limitations of knowledge, the true self is always evasive from direct observation in it’s entirety as it is the infinity of infinities. However, any “finite infinity” portion of the infinity of infinity self can be observed and studied from the inside or outside to gain experiential or mechanistic insight. In many spiritual languages these two would be termed “love” and “wisdom/light” in there less distorted forms and must be balanced for optimal understandings of local finite infinity systems. Ultimately they are both obtained in there entirety if one can be fully present in the infinite self which contains all such information. All systems containing the whole set of infinities. This is how I have observed it from the inside. I will add that there is a logic to the infinite self. This self is intelligent as well as infinite and thus operates from both. The logic ultimately boils down to experiencing the self in infinite ways as I understand it.

Just because it "feels" beautiful doesn't make it true. Life is bound by many things, one of them is called opportunity, something not everyone gets equally. What does that mean? We are not infinite. We are limited, and each of us has different limits. Efforts do not always translate into expected results. I know you and some people like to see things ideally and rainbow sunshine, but sometimes it's necessary to be grounded back into reality.

@@cosmicmind7392 one of your point is grate about being grounded. Let's talk about infinite with respect to opportunity there are people who gets same opportunities but out of all of them some expell way above others and we have many examples for that. So I will take one reference from this video to explain this The opportunity what you see as finite is based on your identity, intellectual plus your memory . But when those things change and grow you find new opportunities which previously you never imagined available or was not available to you at that moment. So how can it be finite when it increases exponentially ? So I would say something he said in a different video is what life throws at you is not in your control but what you makes out of it is 100% your (which is again not finite at all)

@RobertF-

nickolasgaspar How exactly did he distort science and the basic meaning of well defined words?
@RobertF-
@RobertF- 8 лет назад
nickolasgaspar I'm not a scientific genius, and I don't know if Sadhguru is making any scientific errors or whatever, but I would rather be able to achieve his level of character and peacefulness one day than be scientifically well informed but still telling people to dive into fires. What's the point of science and intelligence if we are still going to act like animals? I'm not trying to be rude, I know you are a smart guy, but maybe you should watch one of his non science related videos and consider what he has to say about daily conduct and human behavior. He may not be scientifically precise to your liking, but he has a lot of wise things to say. He is a good person.
@RobertF-
@RobertF- 8 лет назад
nickolasgaspar You're right, I have lost my patience and I have acted like an animal and said and done things out of anger in the past. What I said wasn't personal against you. Anger is an animalistic trait that we have all inherited from our primate ancestors. I just appreciate Sadhguru's demeanor and am interested in his claims that he has overcome anger and that it's not possible for him to become enraged anymore. I envy that, and I hope to get to that point some day. As for him either being ignorant of scientific facts or distorting them on purpose, well that is big difference between those two. Being ignorant of something, and intentionally distorting something, is a big difference. But I'm really not sure about all that. I don't know if I agree with all his spiritual beliefs, and I don't know how scientifically informed he is, but I am more interested in what he has to say about psychology and human behavior and I think he has a lot of wise things to say, like about anger for example. I'm not sure what to say about his ignorance or distortion of scientific facts. But I didn't mean to wag a finger at you or anything like that. I was just talking about anger in general.
@RobertF-
@RobertF- 8 лет назад
nickolasgaspar Well, I understand actually why some people feel that there is nothing spiritual in life, and that materialistic reality is all there is. It's really understandable why someone would feel that way. But I happen to feel that there is something deeper and more subtle to life. Of course, someone could say that it's just my wishful thinking, and that it's something that can't be proved. And, they might be right. Maybe there really is nothing more than everyday, concrete, materialistic reality. But I just feel that there is something a little more complicated than that. I guess I am "spiritual but not religious" as they say. But I get that there is no way to prove anything like that, but stuff like the delayed choice quantum eraser in quantum physics points to the direction that materialism might not exactly be the full story like it likes to paint itself as. I think there is something deeper and more complex to existence that science has just not yet discovered yet, and I think Sadhguru is onto something. But again, I get that for some people that just doesn't resonate at all with them.

Basic Kriya Yog deals with utilizing extra oxygen inhaled by body to reverse aging of every single cell of body, bring about change in dna structure, convert mass into enormous energy so that body dont even need food, carry out evolution in body in short period of time that otherwise would take million years, and understand the universal consciousness by increasing the capacity of body to store universal conscious energy of millions of units,etc. That what sadhus do in himalayan mountains.

Don't get me wrong, I acknowledge their intelligence, but they are immature spiritually, so to speak. This talk really reinforces this feeling. A mystic, one who is spiritually mature, advanced, realized - who is more in tune with his true nature and see things as they are - this is true intelligence, born of realization. This is real, and it is essential, ultimate knowledge. Not relative, but absolute. These are the great souls I respect most - Sadhguru, Ramana Maharshi, Nisargadatta Maharaj, Amma, Anandamayi Ma, Papaji, Mooji, and countless other sages, mystics, yogis, Gurus who have realized their true nature. I am a software professional and i practice meditation on my own. I understand that the reality is fluid. It can take the shape of anything you put in. Science trying to understand why its in this shape, but meditation will only make you understand that it has no shape of its own. Take an example of computer application. We built billions and billions of apps, if one app starts to scratch another it will keep on scratch but still cant understand its creation. If it manages to go inward it can realize that its only 1s and 0s and every thing is made of the same. Science gives you outline and meditation gives shade. Thus to understand reality we need to be detached and observe the life within. Never neglect anything.

interesting content......that man is clearly enlightened ......I wouldn't disagree with anything he said.........I Am a fanatic fan of math/science/technology/logic etc. (left brained) ..........& at the same time I can admit that subjective aspects of existence .....love/art/intuition/spirituality etc (right brained) are just as important & play even a bigger role in our lives...........a functional balance of both is something to seek.
@realcygnus
@realcygnus 8 лет назад
its not literally hemispheric as I meant it, though the terminology may have(or most definitely did) begin with such a misguided assumption..... its now just a metaphor for different aspects/functions many still use......left being logical & right being intuitive/creative etc.....& while I'm at it I should point out that .....I'm quite certain that no matter how much longer we study brains, we will NEVER devise a mathematical recipe or any meaningful or useful model via materialism/reductionism for how a pile of meat generates awareness/experience/qualia. this is well known in neuroscience & other related fields as "the hard problem". its not hard because of its complexity but rather because brains don't "generate" consciousness...... Idealism and/or a VR/sim model &/or especially a "non-standard" probabilistic VR model(such as Tom Campbell's MBT) can simply explain it as Consciousness "rendering" a brain & simultaneously also answer many other BIG Q's in physics....its no longer a fringe idea .....many high-caliber scientists from top-notch institutions worldwide favor or at least seriously consider the idea. though its not exactly mainstream yet either (for several elementary reasons). So... this is NOT to say that we shouldn't keep studying brains or that softer sciences(which in reality are quite difficult) are in any danger.....only the hierarchical structure changes.
@greggor07
@greggor07 8 лет назад
+realcygnus the "hard problem" actually is hard precisely because of its complexity and not because the brain doesn't generate consciousness. No self-respecting scientist would ever claim such a thing. Not in that way for sure. And the idea of the consciousness rendering a brain in fact IS fringe and beyond fringe in neuroscience, one could go as far as to say that it's ridiculous, bordering on this Deepak Chopra-level "non-physicality" crap. Wth is non-physicality?? Has anyone ever experienced it? Most likely not. Has anyone ever perceived such a thing in any measurable, scientifically relevant way? Definitely not. Just wanted to correct those fabrications.

Gøran Greggor millions who are familiar with DMT/ NDE/OBE or even just lucid dreaming etc have experienced non-physical & of course it can't be measured with physical equipment(at least to a degree determined by the rules).......& of course they aren't ready to proclaim it just quite yet....its more than just careers its the foundation on which science itself stands....its clear why they would be reluctant ....to say religion/theologians have been right for thousands of years...that there is something "more/other" than the physical universe.....is seen/believed as going backwards & back to dark times when religion was the source of truth .....& it could cause issues .....but experiments are dragging them there kicking & screaming......paradigm shift type progress is made one funeral at a time.....the fact that reality is information based is not fringe at all......the next step, that its computed is working its way into mainstream even though its thE only logical consequence of it being information based ....& the next logical step is that a simulation cant compute itself so its source must be "outside" in "other"......many VR model proponents think this means its generated by aliens or our future selves etc.....I favor a "non-standard" view that its a "natural" evolving system(Consciousness itself is the computer/reality generator) ...these are not my beliefs ....believing or disbelieving anything is never useful.....its just what I think is most probable after years of serious contemplation .....your response seems quite belief based....you should be skeptical....& open-minded(sounds cliche) but its the only path forward......so especially neuroscience & such will be the last to come to terms with it.....but like I said even if this is a VR all it means is sciences needs to dig up the rules set.....just as its always done......except everything sits atop idealism & NOT objective causality/determinism/reduction-ism......you should give it consideration......what does the double slit experiment & especially the Delayed choice quantum erasure & every other variations seem to say to you ? that it just some how only applies to small stuff & every time a particle changes state an entire other universe gets spawned ? or everything is just rendered from a probabilistic set of possible outcomes for our benefit with historical consistency in "mind" (Occam's Razor) ? not only is this view better physics(much more then just the quantum but the constancy of "c" just being our plank scale/pixel size dived by the refresh rate/outer time loop.....the holographic principle as data compression.....entanglement as everything being equidistant from the source...if/else) etc .....you couldn't possibly(no one could) seriously & quantitatively/logically consider these things without at least temporarily disregarding very deeply ingrained beliefs. Really what such a model can do is unite physics/metaphysics/philosophy/theology/para-normal etc under a simple yet elegant over-arching & sensible viewpoint. it's not only my opinion & that of a ragtag bunch from CornFlake U that favor such concepts....at least the 1st few parts.....heavyweight scientists / digital physicists / computer scientists / information theorists / mathematicians etc from top notch institutions worldwide are seriously considering VR models.....& dont just believe or disbelieve any of it.......look into it yourself with an open/skeptical mind. good luck to you.

+realcygnus won't even comment on the lucid dreaming thing...as you well know, or should know, I could cause you to have a much stronger experience than any lucid dreaming, simply by poking needles into certain areas of your brain. Could cause you to have vivid hallucinations even. So? Does that make it real? I'm sorry, but people's subjective experiences don't have anything to do with truth...you are just wrong. And as you yourself now say..that has nothing to do with science, it fundamentally goes against it, which is why I felt compelled to correct you when you indicated that it is some fringe science field. And it is simply not. That is NOT science. Also paradigms do shift often, that is true, however never has there ever been an instance of a paradigm shift towards quackery and "non-physicality", quite the opposite. Isn't that interesting? 😉
@realcygnus

certainly you can prod the brain & create/change experience......as its merely represents our physical information processing capacity & memory & everything else.......there a correlation thats all.....but its NOT causal.......hit someone in the head with a pipe & now they cant talk.... doesn't demonstrate causality......of course the Avatars experiences would now be rendered limited.......thats how a digital information system would work.......its well worth consideration......such certainty is dysfunctional......if correct you may even live to see part A(this is a virtual reality) come to pass.....& maybe B(it must be computed elsewhere)...... C (consciousness is the computer).comes after & D(its a trainer to reduce entropy of the bits at hand/become love) much after.

Great knowledge can be learned from eastern philosophies. Religion, Science, and Philosophy are more similar than some think. Its all just another way of looking at the processes of this reality. The religious personified the laws of the universe into stories, the scientist sought after causes and effects and established a structured materialistic interpretation of it, and philosophy is the hinge between the two. This was a magnificent discussion and one that many secular minds need to see.

This is a very thought provoking video. They both seemed to gradually open up more and more to each other's perspectives, while firmly standing in their foundations. If I were to put my own words as to what I see their foundations as The Scientist: Science is the most accurate measure of reality that we can use to interact with that reality. It's depth is unknown, but that doesn't stop science from delving further. From my understanding, the goal of science isn't an eventual total understanding, but a constant striving towards simply understanding more. The Mystic: Knowledge is one part of reality, but the experience of ourselves is the ultimate whole of our own reality. To claim to have total knowledge, but ignore this is to disregard a very large portion of what is possible to experience, and know and understand. Not in physical, repeatable understanding, but in the sense of personal inner understanding. *passes joint*

Majority of scientists observe phenomena, while majority of yogis mystics buddhists etc experience phenomena big difference. Self realisation is only through you and your experiences. Everyone's conciousness is quite different and has different memories and experience. The universe is chaotic and impersonal. These usually cannot be quantified by science and maths. But when some things happen and patterns appear. We use science and maths to give these patterns an equation e.g. the laws of thermodynamics, the fibonacci sequence which aligns with many things in nature (phi the golden ratio) etc. But in the overall scheme of things we don't know what came before us and what will come after and that can't be quantified using equations ot simulations.

Seriously, how can someone not wonder about this existence? Who/ what is God? What will mankind evolve into? Why think and dream? Why see outside, not inside? How come this earth has everything we need to exist? Why do we have a brain and what are we all really doing here? Science is simply exploring the universe given to you and me. The question is what do we do next?
@horserider6895
@horserider6895 7 лет назад
I am not surprised by your response 100℅ If you know how science actually works, Someone comes up with a question that everyone else might think, is, nonsense. Every other law, theory and invention came about because someone dared to think of something nonsensical. Everything starts with a thought. Well, the Big Bang theory, Alien theory, are all nonsense if one goes by your thinking. Have you heard Michio Kaku talk? I am least affected by your ideas of nonsense. 50million years ago, would anyone have believed that we would evolve to this extent? No.
@horserider6895
@horserider6895 7 лет назад
Michio Kaku is supposed to be a theoretical physicist on the lines of Stephen Hawking, studying the string theory. He does not laugh at spirituality and he was voted as one of the most intelligent people in America. Neil de Grasse Tyson - knowledge vs thinking might be good for people like you who cannot think ' out of the box'. I am not a scientist. So I don't have to ask scientific questions. Alien theory meaning the fact that aliens and Martians may exist and all that crap. Science cares about conquering outer space, figuring it out. I care about inner space and have pretty much figured it out. In any case you have proved one thing with all your arguments. Human beings always have a need to look upto something superior to exist. For you it is called science. BTW.. when you are in the deepest of meditative states, you experience 'nothingness' which is what outer space contains. Ask a truly scientific new question, c'mon let's see. How scientific your mind is?? lol

Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known. If you want to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first create the universe. Imagination will often carry us to worlds that never were. But without it we go nowhere. For small creatures such as we the vastness is bearable only through love. For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring. Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. We're made of star stuff. We are a way for the cosmos to know itself. We are like butterflies who flutter for a day and think it is forever. Science is not only compatible with spirituality; it is a profound source of spirituality. Every one of us is, in the cosmic perspective, precious. If a human disagrees with you, let him live. In a hundred billion galaxies, you will not find another. CARL SAGAN---

Philip Buddha did exist, his philosophy and world view is Buddhism. It's like thousands of years ago, people believed the world was flat, they weren't lying or making it up, it's what they believed. Hence flat earth is non fiction, it's just a failed hypothesis. I think you're mistaking perspective with literature. Yes, everything could be an illusion created by my brain, then we'll never know anything. There are default assumptions that everyone makes, i.e trust their senses, real or illusion we're bound to live with the experiences they makes us feel. Using rationality and it's easier to conclude what's other people wrote or made up using their imagination, or documented real events that happened. Hence Hinduism is ancient stories, literally. which "hindus" think of as real events. It's like thousands of years ago, people believed the world was flat, they weren't lying or making it up, it's what they believed.
@Neet_loser
@Neet_loser 7 лет назад
Philip nice assumption game, with buddha. Buddha "does" exist, yeah right. You don't seem to understand the concept of time. 2nd and 3rd paragraph - complete irrelevant gibberish. "ancient people" did have a concept of 3rd dimension, you clearly haven't read "religious" books or ancient scriptures, or just trying to make up excuses of their false conclusion. No true scotsman fallacy. read, some texts clearly say the world is flat and is resting on a turtle back, go ahead make excuses for this. They settled for easier answer, based on their simple observation, even though they didn't travel to confirm their hypothesis. And you completely missed the point of my flat earth example or intentionally trying to derail the conversation. It was about what's true(real) and false(fiction), even though people who believed flat earth weren't lying( or making it up) their perspective was limited due to lack of technology, just like buddha's. Yes, ancient fiction is just like modern fiction, and should be treated as fiction books. That includes (hindus) religious texts, should be treated as fiction. I never said fiction is bad, but treating fiction as real is bad, and stupid. You might think this " Fiction isn't a bad word - without it nothing could exist at all, because it would have to then be just one undifferentiated mess." means something, it doesn't, vague bullshit. You're making a lot of strawman arguments, which is to be expected from a "spiritual" person.

Notes on summarised lecture: Argument 1: There are 16 forms of human existence, which he boiled down to 4: a)human intellect b)identity c)internal memory d)cosmic intelligence rebuttal 1= science is a way in which we can understand the blueprint of everything. Argument 2 = Science, and by extension all forms of observational logic, are constrained by the parameters of logic. Logic is a survival instrument, therefore, putting all logic within the parameters of our survival is unfitting and make limited perception. rebuttal 2 = These perceptions, like time, only exist in the mind and are expressions of our brain. Argument 3 = life is time and energy. Death = time over, but energy remaining, all tied up to the expressions of the brain. " we know time. If it's 24 hours, we say it's a day... our existence is a cyclical one ( proved inductively through anecdotal evidence). Mentions yogis who transcend time through yoga. Question 1: What is the you that can be separated from the physical? Answer 1: Identity and human survival intellect serve survival purpose, but doesn't allow exploration of different dimensions. Therefore, do not identify to anything, and see life as life. Eagleman: This is neural plasticity which you have described Response: We only use science which is enslaved by, and funded for, what it can produce materially through technology (empirical science). Technology is useful and allows us to survive, but not explore. Therefore, we must seek science which allows us to understand the more exploratory forms of transcendence. His definition of Science here is the human need 'to know', so observational sciences are in this way, fundamentally the same as mysticism. The fundamental flaw of observation is that we will eventually exhaust its possibilities and hit a stumbling block. Eagleman agrees in terms of scientific understanding of quantum mechanics and neural science. -Existence is formed of five elements: Earth, fire, water, air, space = matter, energy, chemical bonds, time, ether. If you become receptive to these elements, then you have the key to every goal of life. -Excess of life, material, intellectual stimulation are meaningless and unfulfilling (using example of bored children). -Look inward vs outward for solution, because your matter has genetic memory. Final message: Life is a dream, one we can change, so go change your life. Beautiful message, invariably thought-provoking. Most definitely, I will need to fully process and personally reflect upon this!

Dhruv Joshi It's written in Vedas agreed but to decipher a Veda and that too with an acumen takes a whole lot of wisdom.. He has acquired wisdom through his life, and that is the biggest wisdom human can experience.. Watch him speak on ted talk.. You will know how he did it

Dhruv Joshi Actually Sadguru never read any Veda nor Gita. You can read it here archive.indianexpress.com/news/-i-have-not-read-the-vedas-or-the-upanishads.-i-confess-i-haven-t-read-the-gita-/282381/

As an Indian I feel we have lot of wise gurus in India but unfortunately their language barriers stop them from spreading their wisdom.

It was endearing to watch and listen two men, polarizedly wired, talk and share opinions with an open mind and heart. Thanks for sharing.

neil would absolutely destroy him. nothing of what he says has anything to do with our reality and is purely based on his personal philosophy and whishful thinking.

***** oh i do believe you had an awesome experience. that doesn't mean the experience wasn't just inside your head. hallucinations are 100% real to schizophrenic people too, but that doesn't make their hallucinations actually real.

Sadhguru kept asking to what end is he striving when pursuing science ? For what ? And the scientist never answered. The scientist said that science is trying to UNDERSTAND that which we do not know... but Sadhguru repeatedly said that those other 3 dimensions not bound by physical faculty cannot be known through the 5 sensory organs, for life is much more DEEPER and requires looking INWARD to UNDERSTAND the OUTWARD. The scientist couldn't wrap his mind around it since he's been indoctrinated with the methodologies of achieving knowledge through the tangible. I could write a book on my resonance with Sadhguru's philosophies. I know exactly what he means. I am so happy to have found him on RU-vid !

This conversation is a good step in the right direction. What we need is a better insight into who and what we are, this knowledge will lead to better questions and these better question will lead us understanding what we don’t know or what we haven’t even perceived. Channeled.
