Play EVE Online ➡️ eve.online/Ridddle_EN_megastr...
In this video, we explore the biggest construction sites of the future - the ones that will one day provide us with real megastructures of all kinds and purposes.
From space elevators and Dyson spheres, to enormous ships and gargantuan space stations to live in. But we won't just marvel at their scale - the real questions are: could we really build all these in the near future, what tech do we need to get the job done, and ultimately, will it work as intended, or these megastructures will turn out to be megagraves?
In our analysis we well use real engineering projects, as well as top sci-fi examples from books, movies and also from the unique world of massive multiplayer online game EVE Online.
EVE Online - (eve.online/Ridddle_EN_megastr...) It is set in a rich sci-fi universe, where players can create their own character and explore a vast and complex virtual world built according to the well-thought set of consistent in-world rules.
The game is known for its intricate economy, politics, and warfare mechanics, where players can engage in a variety of activities, including mining resources, trading, fighting, and of course, building numerous megastructures with rich customisation options.

They might have industrial printers that can print construction materials using synthetic precursors or ingredients that do not require natural resources and can be mass produced in labs? Surprised there's no mentioning of Mobile Suit Gundam anime at all, because that series had people build megastructures on space, from having a bunch O'neill cylinder colonies being placed on various langrangian points, cities on the Moon, to giant battleships and mechs, super weapons that utilizes the sun's power like Solar Ray and the Solar Flare System, or even turning Asteroids into a base.

Eve online is badass. My only complaint is also a positive... but it's something I sometimes have trouble with - the requirement that you cooperate with other players - it's great because that's the point of these games in the first place - it's not great because sometimes not having a very set schedule isn't great for MMO games in general, if you're planning on working with some of the same players numerous times - whether you know them or not, it's hard to organize something like that without set schedules - and in Eve, working with perfect strangers with no stake might be "relatively safe" in the high security sectors, it's get ya shot in the back really fast anywhere else - and sometimes you can still get ganked in high security, haha... Don't get me wrong... I really do love the game. It's got great world building (...universe building in this case?) and the gameplay is pretty great too - and to top it off they've definitely improved the graphical fidelity of the game substantially - which is something I certainly do appreciate. Graphics might not be everything, but they certainly are SOMETHING.

All the SciFi authors wilfully ignore a smattering of medieval canon balls, released at just below C (Speed of Light), in the direction of planet will likely render it uninhabitable. There's many an extant old siege gun, sat next to a pile of 300-500 kg balls, and as we all know every kg of mass, of a projectile at just below C, has ~4.5E+16 J of KE (45 Peta Joules of Kinetic Energy). That's several orders of magnitude greater than the ~6E+13 J (60 Tera Joules) of E of the Hiroshima bomb. A 300 Kg lump of iron will therefore need to convert ~ 1.15E+19 (11.5 Exa Joules) of KE into heat, light, sound, ... energy when it thumps into a planet. Grab and accelerate a 1,300 Kg Tesla Roadster, you find floating in the neighbourhood, with your tractor beam, and the dent won't buff out, in either the car or the planet. 😜

The concept of an elevator to the stars has one large flaw: If you lift something up to a geostationary orbit you must accelerate that object to it's usual speed - which needs a large amount of energy to be transferred to that object. That means, instead accelerating it by conventional means like rockets you will need to transfer the same amount of energy to that object to have it circling the earth with the needed speed for not to fall back to earth. Thus the space elevator will have to transfer the same energy to it's cargo as by sending it up by a rocket. The energy to lift it up can be delivered by the elevator - but where shall the energy come from to accelerate the cargo to orbit speed?
@chadbreton4951
@chadbreton4951 6 месяцев назад
Well let's think about it. Not that I think it's feasible but lets think about it in theory. If you travel "up" to the end of a space elevator you have already accelerated to the correct speed for orbit because the end of the space elevator would have to be traveling at that speed already much like a satellite in geosynchronous orbit.

Kyper ring dyson sphere. Free floating drone swarm technology. The size of the Kyper belt. Each individual section is its own megastructure. 10's of millions of them. 1000 miles square and 10 miles deep. The star will supply power and the distance from the star stops the gravitational collapse. If one section is damaged it doesn't effect the others. Collectively the energy captured would be hundreds of folds more than we as an ever populating species could use. It could hold untold trillions of people.

When we can have a functional working quantum computer our technology is going to accelerate at a rate that would be impossible without quantum computers, this will allow us to build space ships similar to the ones that we are already seeing in our skies and we will be able to produce energy on a scale that hasn't been seen before, it's amazing that a quantum computer needs to operate at absolute zero for it to work right, just like how space is, our reality is seems to look like more and more the same as a simulation, or a quantum computer, although I think we have free will, otherwise what would be the point of advanced beings running a simulation, it was seen that they obviously want to see where we end up, are we able to make it to the next level, are we capable of not destroying ourselves, can we be smart enough to figure out how to travel space in a timely manner, etc etc etc, maybe real reality is some type of quantum computer , so that would mean all matter is just simulated, everything can all be broken down into numbers, proven more that reality is some type of quantum computer, these are my thoughts not yours thanks for reading
