There is a great variety of sea life swimming in Earth's oceans, but according to the National Ocean Service, more than 90% of the species living in them are not yet classified. So when scientists stumbled onto a toothy deep-sea "top predator" off Japan's coast, they could not believe a fish of that size was swimming around the deep blue. Lucy Craft has more.

That's how long it takes to gather data and write a paper. It was only published this year. Being a science nerd since childhood I'm use to it. Hear a word about something wait years for more. When it comes to space exploration it's way more nuts. Get excited about planned mission. Wait years for delays, because nobody wants it to get launched and not work so they test every part past the requirements of the mission. Then delay for launch day because it has a 5% chance to fail wasting money and years of work. Finally it leaves earth, to take months or many years to get to its location. Science is all about accuracy publish errors because you rushed, you'll damage your career if your lucky. All work is checked over and over. Over the centuries those works will be learned and tested by children. Because whatever we consider the fringe of knowledge will one day be a young child's homework... Until we figure out a better way to learn anyways.

The fish was discovered in 2016 so any pokemon game from 2016 til now may already have that type of pokemon. And I believe it may be Bruxish the Water/Psychic type.
@rabbidlobo
@rabbidlobo 3 года назад
@@ScrotumBalls No Bruxish is based on the Huma huma nuka nuka apu'a, a fish found near tropical waters in Hawaii. Sun and Moon came out in 2016, and they usually take 2 years to finish making a game as they start as soon as the previous generation is released. So there is no way that in 2016 when it was originally discovered that it could've been added to the game. They have the pokemon done first, the last thing they do is localize it from my understanding. I could be wrong on the last part, but how would I know it was already discovered? I do watch the news, but not religiously enough to catch everything. Its just crazy that if it was already discovered in 2016 then why say it again in 2021? Not that I don't believe you, I was just joking anyway. Awesome that another pokemon fan commented.

A possible reason might be that scientific discoveries are often not announce to the public until years after they are made because it often takes a long time to verify the studies. It isn’t always easy to determine whether or not something is a brand new species. That’s because there isn’t necessarily a universally agreed-upon definition of what a new species has to be in order to be considered a new species.

I put a tiny hook on some 2 lb fishing line and fished beside a pier in Galveston Bay. The locals were making fun of me, because I was using my ultralight fishing outfit. They quit laughing and came over to look at all of the different species I was bringing up. They'd never seen them before, because they used big hooks to catch salt water fish which were much bigger. The strangest ones were the Sculpins. They had huge heads, a BIG mouth and little bodies, but were only a couple inches long. They even had "legs" that they used to "walk" on the ocean floor. Of course I didn't know that when I caught them. I had to look them up on the internet!

That looks exactly like what leaped out of the water while I was fishing and grabbed a smaller fish 🐠 that I had caught. Then it broke my line and almost took me into the water with it! My friend and I saw it that day but no one else believed me! The fish was huge and its breath stunk so bad! Very powerful fish! If you could call it that! It was more like a monster! If my friend didn’t immediately grab me. I would’ve definitely gone for a swim 🏊‍♂️ with that thing!

Do fish breathe ?
@r.mcbride2837
@r.mcbride2837 3 года назад
@@psychiatry-is-eugenics Yes, as a matter of fact, they do. It's called aquatic respiration. It's a technique that allows fish to exchange respiratory gases with water, obtaining oxygen from oxygen dissolved in water. It allows them to excrete carbon dioxide and some other metabolic waste products into the water, in much the same manner that we do, excreting carbon dioxide and waste when we exhale. So, yeah... fish have "breath" and can, therefore, have halitosis!~ :-)

Tsunami tore up nuclear power plant 10 years ago. After ww2 the nuclear waste in america were put in stainless steel drums by the thousands and brought out to sea on huge barges and dumped overboard with bulldozers. Stainless steel has 100yr shelf life under normal conditions. Some think that's what started EL NINO'. so 1950 or so hmm.

Backwards: If 90% of species remain UN-classified, then finding something new should not be surprising at all. Better: If 90% of species are known, then something new could properly be called a surprise.
