I was extremely happy with Contagion and had such a good time reading it and of course I loved The Demonologist. I did like Into the Drowning Deep but not as much as some of the other members; it’s not a book I would have picked out for myself but that’s why I love the book club 🥰

the samurais of fukushima is like "the kingdom " of netflix?
@hugocukurs

Samurais of Fukushima (it came first! lol) is more focused on the adventure and characters' relationship. I think Kingdom shows more about how the virus started and the power dispute for the Kingdom. If you decide to read it, let me know. ;)

The Last Astronaut by David Wellington is right in your wheelhouse. It is definitely adult sci fi horror similar to Event Horizon. It also reads just like a movie. I’ve read Contagion as well, and I felt just the same about the YA tropes.

I definitely agree with you on the zombie genre, I was very huge into it when it was the big craze, Now I can’t stand it. But, There is one book from that genre and it is called, The Dead by Mark E. Rogers, And I will say this, This book is nothing based on the flesh eating zombies we constantly get bored of, This book is definitely about the End of days, judgement has passed and the dead rise to claim the prophecy. It is my absolute, honest to god, absolute favorite horror book because when I read this book, It made the hairs on my arms and back of my neck stand straight up because Death made the dead return and snuff out the living, This book is definitely not your average flesh eating cadavers, no, These are the dead, filled with anger with no remorse for anything. This book made an impact to me because it was not only an awesome story, yet it was also very unnerving as well. I will say this, there is conversation with a few characters discussing religious facts, something I’m not into, but, whoof!!! It was done right!!! And two: if you happen to check out this store, ( please do!! ), most of the spelling will be tied together, To me, not a big deal. So there you have it, Please check out the Dead by Mark E. Rogers. Insanely awesome story while keeping the lights on when reading.🤘🤓

I’ll add Drowning Deep to the books I’ll pick up. Whenever teen angst shows up I start skipping pages till it goes away. When someone uses a logical fallacy as evidence for something I assume it’s because they don’t have any evidence at all. If they did, they’d use that evidence rather than a logical fallacy. O/T. You might like Spoonbenders by Daryl Gregory if you haven’t already read it.
@TheShadesofOrange

I completely agree with you about using logic fallacies as a defense... and I hope you enjoy Into the Drowning Deep

@@TheShadesofOrange I think you reviewed Children of Time in a video. Just read it. Turns out I'd read it so long ago I'd forgotten most of it. I liked it. Not a top ten list book, but enjoyable. @@NakiasHideaway I replied but I think my comment got censored. The whole story is in the book Satan’s Harvest. It involves Ed supporting a guy “possessed” by an incubus. And the court case the guys step daughter brought with years of evidence being dropped because of Ed’s testimony.

Have you read House of Darkness House of Light by Andrea Perron? She’s the daughter of the couple whose story was based off the Conjuring. She wrote it and it’s her account along with the accounts of her mother and siblings. It’s a trilogy. I have read the first and going to read the next two. The first I read a long time ago and I haven’t read the next two because it scared me so so much and I am a seasoned horror reader and it takes a lot to scare me. It was fantastic.

As soon as I saw the thumbnail I said "Yes!" Sci-fi horror! 🙌🏾 I prefer fictional horror too, but I also do not NOT believe in ghosts and the supernatural. I love true life ghost stories! Adding Contagion and Into the Drowning Deep to my TBR. I don't want Disney mermaids. 😄 For a sci-fi horror recommendation I got The Plasm by William Meikle from Harpies in the Trees and it seems like it's going to be good.

I listened to, 'Into the Drowning Deep' at work and honestly was one of the worst books I have ever *read*. It honestly reads like a bad B 80's movie, the characters are flat, the plot is something a 12 year old could come up with, their is no scare factor and the authors prose is honestly so unpolished/amateur it makes me cringe. If you want deep water horror try Peter Watts - Starfish.
