Episode idea along the lines of this one. There's an 'old wives tale', that , if your firing a heavy recoiling rifle / shotgun, you should have your shoulder up against something solid, like a tree. 'would be a good episode to destroy the shoulders of a torso. 'Call it a "PSA" ! Take care, luv the stuff.

It only took one "scope kiss" to teach my son to listen when I tell him to properly shoulder and hold his weapon. He fired, looked at me with a little blood coming from his eye and I was like, "got scoped didn't ya" he said "yes sir" and we laughed. He was 15. ahh memories..

My brother & older male cousins had me so scared the first time I fired the 12g with slugs, with stories I would roll over backwards, land on my butt at the very least, have a bruised and sore shoulder, whatever. But as the only girl in the extended family in their age group, no way would I back down. I was shooting open sights and of course my dad taught us how to shoot and safely handle firearms. I took a deep breath and squeezed the trigger. I felt a recoil, but nothing like they described it as. I didn't even look to see if I hit the target, (which I did), I turned around and said you all suck, you had me that scared of nothing. 😂😂 But I suppose it was a good lesson to do it right the first time, conquer your fear and not be afraid. I never worried about recoil after that and ended up a pretty good shot with that 12g. We learned how young back in the day, I think I prefer the good old days where that was normal. Now people are afraid of and blame inanimate objects. 🤦‍♀️ instead of the criminal who's using them.

There's a few different "statements" that has been said about Scott and how he "willy nilly" just shoots random things with safari calibers. Some people just take it personally. They don't watch or follow Scott's videos. So they don't know Scott. All the "negative" comments are from good ole boys that came across a 416 Rigby or similar video from Scott and get upset. Old coworker of mine bought a brand new .300 WM I believe, and a brand new scope. He was new to firearms and set it all up himself. Not thinking about the recoil of the .300. First shot on the range scoped himself and was bleeding down his face. He was in good spirits and couldn't stop laughing

Long story ... Dad and I had almost identical Rem 700's, same scope, but different calibers. Mine was .243, his 7mm Mag. Last day of the hunt, on our way home and a nice little buck crossed in front of us. Dad told me, "Might as well fill your tag." I hopped out, picked up one of the two rifles between us, took careful aim across the hood and KABLAM. Wouldn't you know it I had picked up the 7mm. Blood running down my face, lens out of my glasses and Dad said, "You better hit it again, it's head is still up." I couldn't see out of my right eye at all, so I leaned across the stock and looked through the scope with my left. KABLAM wouldn't you know it, got kissed again right on the side of my left eye. Neither injury was serious, no stitches, but the double shiner made me look like a boxer that lost for a couple of weeks.

A couple years ago at the VIntage Sniper Match at Camp Perry, I got scope-kissed with an M73 scope on a 1903A4 while firing my sighters. I had to finish firing my sighters with blood streaming into my right eye before a range officer called medical over to provide first aid! Fun times!!!

The first time I took a friend of mine to the range he took a scope smooch from my .300WM on his first shot and we spent the rest of the day in the ER while he got a baseball stitch in his forehead. I took a few shots to demonstrate first, set him up properly and while I was spotting he repositioned. The scope cap caught him smack in the middle of his forehead and gave him a 2” gash.

I had a friend who was an FFL back in the 70s and 80s. He sold a lot to old people and would go to their hose and sell stuff. Anyway he was selling a TC contender. He was showing it to the old man. And their dog was on John's lap. He said the dog was cool but freeky about the gun. The old man held it out and did a dry fire to see if he liked the scope on it. When the hammer fell on the empty chamber, that little dog almost removed John's nose. It took stitches and a few years before is kinda went away. So he would always say the worst scope bite he ever got was from an unloaded 30-30 contender. He would say. Damn thing nearly took my nose off. Then laugh for an hour. He was one heck of a guy.

@@garageliving3658 maybe, and I mean maybe, that would be the case with a 9mm. But not with the pressure 50AE runs. A little bit of resistance on the back of the slide is not enough to cause a stovepipe

I was 12 years old when my dad finally let me shoot his 378 weatherby. I was a little overconfident and split my eyebrow first shot eventually requiring 3 stitches. My dad made me finish a 5 shot group and clean his rifle before I got medical attention. I actually enjoyed the experience because my dad was genuinely proud of me for getting a 2 inch group.

Brings back memories from bootcamp, we had two types of recruit eyes: 1 was the imprint of the H&K G3 stock starting just under the right eye and going various distances over the cheek bone. 2 was also named the gas eye, and was a black/blue imprint of the gasmask glas around the eye, both were expensive in the mess hall later 🤣

The issue I have is that unless you are myopic in your scope eye to the point of blindness getting the correct sight picture through the scope is going to be near impossible without a good cheek weld, and a good cheek weld with proper sight picture just ISN'T gonna happen unless your cheek bone is far enough from the eyepiece to provide the correct focal length so that you get a scope image that fills the tube. If you ARE that myopic, the shooting sports are unlikely to be your thing.

Got my first big hit to the nose from a scope on a black powder muzzle loader! I was 13 or 14 at the time, never fired 50 cal (muzzle loader or not) and after having a big range day with M1 Garands and 12 gauge shotguns my shoulder was feeling itt lol but I decided that I wanted to fire that muzzle loader one time before everything was packed up! Smacked me good on the nose, drew blood, and 10 or so years later is still one of my favorite memories and stories to tell!
