In this short video, we go through the process of fitting a picatinny rail made by Contessa, Italy, to a Sako 85. This rail will also fit the other models of Sako using the tapered dovetail system such as the Sako 75 and older models. This is the Rear Extended for Night Vision picatinny rail in this video, a Standard Length picatinny rail is also available.
Included with every rail:
1 x Rear Base (with 2 Screws)
1 x Front Base (with Sliding Block and 1 Screw)
1 x Picatinny Rail
1 x Wrench
1 x Spare Screw
Fitting Instructions:
1. Fit the Rear Base to your Sako 75 or 85. Use a plastic hammer to tap the base on to the rifle from the rear. It will have a good friction hold already. Once the base is tight, you then tighten up the 2 grub screws on the base. This will lock the base in position and secure it fully.
2. Next, fit the Front Base to your Sako 75 or 85 in the same method. Tap on with a plastic hammer until it's tight, then tighten up the 2 grub screws to secure it in place.
3. Now, fit the picatinny rail over the top of the bases. There is a recoil stud at the rear of the rail. Use this as a locator and the rear base screw holes will align.
4. Fit the rear base screws through the rail and tighten up. Do not fully tighten them just yet.
5. Fit the Sliding Block in to the channel in the front of the picatinny rail. It will drop in place and you can then fit the screw. Tighten up this screw now, but not fully.
6. Once the rail is fitted and you are happy with the fit. You can now tighten up all of the screws equally. Use 2 nm if you have a Torque Wrench or a 1/4 turn as you feel some resistance if you haven't got a Torque Wrench.
And you're done!!
The picatinny rail featured in this video is a Contessa Picatinny Rail for Sako 75/85, Short Action, Extended for Night Vision. Other models and action sizes are available. Visit our online store for more product information: store.alanrhon...

Welcome back, enjoyed your Schultz and Larsen Legacy episodes. That Sako pic mount is horrible, why the massive hangover at the rear of the action, personally I would never ruin a great rifle like the Sako with thhat ugly fitting rail.

Hi Gary, the Sako mounts have been through a few revisions to get to this point and we're confident Contessa have done a good job with this design. The overhang at the rear is purely down to the rail being the "Extended for Night Vision" model. There is a standard length model which ends at the rear of the Sako bases.
