Another angle for you. M.I was very prominent on the older Hennessy cyphers but fell out with the brand's (Hennessy) handling of the cypher projects, so he dumped them and started off with the Martell cyphers. There was a diss line in this M.I cypher rap that made reference to "the other cognac", he was referring to Hennessy. This point is important because, M.I eventually went back to the Hennessy cypher at the recently dropped 2020 cypher. And he made reference to the reunion too. In addition, you'll realise that in M.I lines these days especially on the cyphers, he's not really bothered about dropping too many bars but rather he tells stories or just delivers a message, this is so because he feels he's seen it all done it all, made way for the younger ones (he mentored) to keep dropping the bars while he gradually exits the mainstream.

Lovely reaction here! Like his name, Loose's canon was on a loose, shooting shots at every angle, hitting targets of course. Blaqbones performed as expected. He's a battle rapper, so he's always battle ready. Loved his references. AQ is intelligent. His schemes are out of the world. MI is the boss. Always the boss. No doubt. Before now, I rated Blaq above all others but I quite agree with your review. I think Loose deserves the No. 1 spot. Thanks for the effort you put into this. Excellent reaction man. AQ is probably the most intelligent rapper in Nigeria. Just that he referenced too many Nigerian stuff on this particular track so you didn't catch it. And Blaq just kills every cypher and battle rap. I love that guy!!

MI's last line about the 'other cognac this is how to spend your budget' is a reference to when he left Hennessy cypher claiminv they were under paying and disrespecting up and coming rappers on their cyphers. Important note that Vector was the main guy on Hennessy cypher around this time. He felt that last line coupled with other subs over the years was an insult to his person. Thus his first M.I diss 'TETRACYCLING'. Which was a little trash for me. And Mi replied with 'The Viper' which was dope. Vector replied with 'JUDAS THE RAT' which was equally dope. The Martell cypher was the breaking point for VEC but Hennessy cyphers weren't as dope as this. Then around November Hennessy made a little doc on the beer and it ended there. In December they both appeared on an Hennessy cypher featuring Ceemos and MI's brother Jesse Jagz.

I just want to point out the fact the biggest lyrical war in Africa was sparked off by this M.I Abaga's lines on Martell Cypher 2: "So who really the best rappers in Africa? Who been top the chart but still giving them lyrical massacre? I Put it like this, as long as M.I exist, I'm number one and y'all can figure out the rest of the list. Here we go: 2 Ghanians and 3 rappers from SA 1 Kenyan rapper can step to me on they best day." The assumption was that he was talking about AKA, Casper Nyovest, Nasty C (SA rappers), Sarkodie, M.Anifest (Ghanaians), and Khaligraph Jones from Kenya. This didn't sit well with other African MCs. Many lyrical replies from Cameroon, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Tanzania... I think the doppest of them all was Lyrical Joe's reply to M.I, he titled it Dracarys. Steve, I think you should do a review of 'Dracarys' by LJ. It's got mad punchlines from an angry MC. Check it out.

AQ was smooth with the flow and MI crowned it off with some OG shit(had a couple of double entendres at the beginning of his verse) Anyway, I believe u must be wondering how this Cypher is related to beef between MI and Vector. First, u must know dat MI was the Hennessey "Ambassador" in Nigeria, with Hennessey being the biggest promoter of hip hop/rap culture in Nigeria. The issue here is, MI, being the brand ambassador was of the opinion dat Hennessey should pay the rappers dat featured on their Cyphers but apparently Hennessey was against dat suggestion. They were of the opinion dat they were already doing too much for the artistes by giving them their platform to showcase their talent🤷🏻‍♂️ When MI pressed further, they decided to terminate their contract with him and hire the next best alternative who happens to be...(yeah, u guessed right) Vector 😅 as their new brand ambassador. MI was later hired by Hennessey's rival, Martell as their brand ambassador. So MI's last line when he said, "...and dat other cognac(Hennessey), this is how to spend ur budget!!" He was effortlessly taking shots at Hennessey which happens to be a brand that Vector represents.

Like I tell every 'outsider' who do these reviews, MI is great and my fave when it comes to the comparison with Vector, however, Mode Nine is the greatest out of Africa!
