If you're going for the near post, use power. The goalkeeper is covering that side and your only advantage is that the ball will travel less far before it reaches the area he can cover. Get your head over the ball and thump it unless there's an obvious gap.
I also use bottles, as since if you knock them over it’s like running into a defender. Since the bottles fall easily, it teaches you not to knock them over/trains you to not get tackled by an opponent.
Most amateur goalkeepers for that last drill will stick in near-post (because they don't have the footwork) than go for the far-post, so in my opinion you should always go for far-post if you're an amateur ;-)
Hey Jay Mike, I know you were a big of the Nike Magista Obra elite low cut like myself. Which current boot reminds you of the Obra lows interms of comfort and touch on the ball but with more responsiveness to it? :)
