Hi Ian. Great video.:) I myself also use emvoiceone but never had I been able to such narrow stick to create the vibrato. Can you please explain if there is something special you do? I always get them wider and that doesnt make a good vibrato. Thx🙂
Ian, this video blew my mind. I use Finale 26, however I was exporting MIDI files to StudioOne 5 (with varying degrees of success in getting the MIDI file to sync up with Finale's Audio Export) to then work with EMVOICE. Your video inspired me to try to use EMVOICE directly with Finale. Unfortunately I cannot seem to get EMVOICE to "hear" Finale's playback like you did in Dorico. Have you used EMVOCIE with Finale before? Any tips? Thank you, sir!
Hi Foster and thanks for your nice comments. I'm not a Finale user but as Emvoice One is a VST plug-in, having looked in to this, I understand Finale should be able to play back using the Emvoice plug-in. I'm sure you've got more knowledge on how to add plugins in Finale, but I found this if it helps. usermanuals.finalemusic.com/Finale2014Win/Content/Finale/MANAGEVIRTINST.htm In my scoring program, I just point Dorico to the folder where the Emvoice VST is located and then it picks it up automatically when I run the program. Are you managing to open Emvoice once Finale is running? Do you run any other VSTs or AUs in Finale? If so, find the folder that contains them and add Emvoice to that folder. I'm sorry I can't be more specific because I don't use Finale, but in theory, it should work. I'll dig around some more. Best wishes.
@@ianblick1 ... Just an update on my last post. I could not get Finale to use Emvoice directly, however I was able to use Emvoice with a bit more work. I recorded my Finale file as a Wav file, muting the SATB lines. I then saved it as a MIDI file and imported everything into my DAW. Once in the DAW, I "record" the vocal lines into Emvoice. I then run the vocals through some filters in my DAW and I get all voices playing with the orchestra. I can create individual vocal practice tracks too by adjusting the overall volume of each track to highlight the one vocal line I am targeting. Wow. I really admire the skill and craftsmanship in putting together this piece. To me Emvoice still sounds a bit robotic and I am wondering if having some notes less than perfect pitch (like a real voice) helps? Thanks for the video!
Thanks Tim. I agree about the intonation and since making this video I have included a lot more portamento between notes in my work to give it a more realistic feel. I'll upload something again soon to show how it's developed for me. Cheers for the comment.

Ian, this is a very nice video. I referred your link to Philip Rothman of Scoring Notes where I asked him to please review Emvoice in his weekly blog or podcast. I have had some trouble with long lines. Emvoice gives me an error about the music being too complex or having too many notes. It seems to me that the problem is that it's cloud-based and it doesn't have the horsepower to manage multi-note vowels. It seems to work better when I input notes directly rather than recording notes from the MIDI instrument. My wish-list for Emvoice includes making it available off line as a program on one's laptop/desktop, much like Melodyne 5 can be used as a standalone or a plugin.
Hi Luis and thanks for your comment. I've been in touch with Philip and agreed to produce some videos to show how Emvoice can work as a scoring tool. Scoring Notes are going to present my ideas which is really exciting for me, so thanks for the recommendation. As for the long lines - let Emvoice record the whole line, even if you get the error up that it's too complicated, and then divide it into smaller parts. For example, after a sentence, grab the next recorded block by pressing cntrl/command and click/drag on the mouse. Move the block to the right and it will produce a gap between the phrase. You should be able to make Emvoice recognise the phrase if it's shorter now. I'll put it in a video with a demonstration on one of these vlogs. Cheers.
@@ianblick1 Yes, I had done precisely that as a workaround, but there are problems with that. First and foremost, after a few times doing that, the sound goes out of sync with the score ; second, sometimes after splitting, when you move the block of music back closer so that it doesn’t go out of sync, it will frequently get joined again and you have to split it again. Way, way too much work! And there is a whole lot of waiting on their servers. (I soooo wanted this plug-in to work!) Another problem is that they haven’t updated their guide in 3 years. They could have included the tip about limiting music blocks to 20 notes and other limitations by this time. Anyway, when the technology matures a bit more, I’ll try it again. I got a refund because I already have limited singing software (Realivox Blue) and I have a serious case of buyer’s remorse. I’m going to take a look at Dreamtonics’s Synthesizer V. It looks promising, but I need to run it through its paces first before I get too enthused. 😏
