This is probably the most in-depth tutorial or guide I have ever done on this channel… or not. We stacked one team and made them the best at everything, then stacked the other team and made them the worst at everything in Football Manager. How many goals can you score in one game? If I told you here that would probably defeat the purpose of watching your new FAVORITE FM EXPERIMENT EVER, but I promise it’s a fun ride.
I actually don’t know if it is an experiment, more of a fact-finding mission. This is a question that we have the resources to answer. We must know the answer for the sake of Football Manager writ large. The entire community of spreadsheet starers needs to know what it looks like when absolutely everything goes right on this love-to-hate match engine we spend our lives in.

7:11 I have actually met the goalkeeper for American Samoa in that game. He is a referee now and I worked some games with him when I reffed in college. He is a super good sport about the 31-0 and actually kind of brags about it lol

Actually i remember losing 72-0😂 to Chelsea as Arsenal, i just sold everyone for 0 and bought as many Vanarama goalkeepers as i could and put a formation on overload,very fluid with 1 defender and everyone on the right with the instructions of exploiting the left flank, and do the offside trap🤣

I’ve easily hit in the high 50s with just horrible formations. It would be cool to see this with a formation with no CBs or DMs. Also if you set all the fitness levels to 1500 they all get injured but a single player who seems to be invincible.

I've done 37 (83% possession) in an experiment but only set fitness/jadedness to 5000 (FMRTE). Much lower than that and the game crashes. Didn't gut or max player ratings either.

My record (granted, this is for conceding goals) is 0-117. I make them as tired as possible and also give them 20 aggression and dirtiness so they would get more red cards. By the end of the match there would only be one or two guys left on my team because everyone would either get sent off or injured

Record this game was 33-0 in a pregame friendly. Real Sociedad just coming off a 3rd La Liga title vs Antiguoko. Local team. Googled them afterwards and it turns out they are a junior team where Xabi Alonso and Mikel Arteta came from. But they did get 14k for their troubles...

This is hilarious. Poor Norwich. My main take-away though: finishing (scoring) is really hard for some reason, no wonder so many one-on-one chances are missed.

I think its because the players with all 20s are still humans. A 20 in a stat means you are one of the best in the world. You still see Benzema, Lewa missing chances, Modric missing passes, etc. because they are human. If 20 finishing meant that they finished every chance they'd be an alien. Kind of wish they raised the cap so you could get an actual robot who made no mistakes tho, that would be interesting to see.

@@brysonluke8 yeah, but it is more emphatic in FM22, even great finishers miss a lot of one-on-ones. Yes, they would not score all of them, but also missing so many?

@@thargoff yeah you’re definitely right. Especially in this situation where the defenders are actually chicken nuggets and the goalie is less effective than a toddler. You’d like to think a perfect player would know to just tuck the ball in the corner and move on. Doesn’t take a world class finish to beat my nan.

Playing a 1-1-5-3 (the 1 is important to stop offsides), with every player playing out of position, against my great Watford team on FM19, Manchester United lost 53-0. It took about an hour of my life but was worth it.

That Man City team needed a special tactic with a pair of Secundo Volantes, an Attacking Libero, Wide-Center Backs on Attack and 2 Advanced Forwards with a Trequarista behind them. Obviously two Inside Forwards on Attack as well. To make it even more unfair, could've also applied the Fitness bug, so that they don't get tired for the entire 90 minutes and just watch them run rings around Norwich players.

I think it does highlight a few match engine issues. Finishing doesn't seem to be as efficient as it probably should be, those are perfect finishers, yet still missed a lot of chances against a terrible GK. I've noticed in game even world class finishers like Haaland on amazing form seem to miss quite a lot of 1v1s especially. Also I think it highlights a possession issue, firstly FM seems to do possession based on time with the ball for some reason, but still poor players on a defensive mentality are able to play a lot more keep ball than they should, especially against a press. I mean 82% pass completion in that game when they all have 1 for every passing related stat and 36% possession just doesn't make sense.

Can you do a round robin of three teams where all players only have 20 in Technical, Mental or Physical attributes, and see which matters more in the match engine?

My record in an actual career, is in a World Club Cup semi, as Liverpool, against the Pacific champions who won their QF. I played my second string and won 20-0, including bringing on Gerrard for the last 10, who got a hat-trick off the bench.

Terrible formation vs amazing formation, terrible team talk, no subs and using take off button could take it to 100 goals! Edit : Terrible fitness and sharpness vs good fitness and decent sharpness is another factor!

I love that the modern FM games allow you to test this stuff out. Back in the, say, FM08 days, if you managed to edit a player's stats to max 20s, the game would automatically adjust them down so that you couldn't "cheat". I loved this, and I've spent a large proportion of the last 3-4 years in FM08 trying to create "perfect players" that retain their stats instead of getting nerfed. Finding the fine line is extremely tough, but a thoroughly entertaining challenge!

I think in order to break into 70, if possible, I'd make the Norwich players have two weak feet, as well as Man City players being either footed, that I think would help with missing chances as it doesn't matter which side the ball is in, they can kick it in with it more likely being on target compared to it being on their weaker foot, and someone else suggested it but changing the formations would definitely help as well, add watching the "Full match" and you can easily hit 100 goals imo

Im pretty sure finishing is cursed in this game. My theory is that this is beecause of how the ME works: if finishing was "easier" you would probably score 5 or 6 every match, because its relatively easy to generate decent chances. Most of the time i do not score more than 2 or 3 even with 20+ decent shots on goal. But its kinda "easy" to get a mid table squad to constatly create that amount of chances, and to sign a couple wonderkinds.

Recently, my (overpowered) EFL2 team (just promoted from VNL) managed to beat a lower league team 21-0 with my star striker netting 11. Those opponents were having just about 7s across the board for starters and 6s for the backups. Fun fact: Apparently, if two players have the same rating, the one that's earlier in the team sheet gets the PotM award, because the 11 goal + 2 assist striker was beaten out by a 5 goal + 2 assist winger. Both were rated 10.0.

To actually make the biggest score line possible or close to that, you can also change the tactics of the opponents so they pretty much have just wing players so the middle is totally free to roam

I have a video request for Zealand. I would love to see someone do an analysis on personality attributes (similar to what you did with the playing attributes in the past). I am really curious to see how big of a difference consistency, important matches, pressure, etc actually have on match day performances. To be clear, I would be willing to spend a few hours helping out to make it happen if I am of use.

From my experience doing morale boosting friendlies I do think it is somewhat hard coded that the first 1 to 3 goals are harder to score with a decreasing difficulty. After that it just seems the flood gates open. Not as extreme as here however have had 20+ games.

This was funny. But you should try doing this while managing the perfect team and giving them a super offensive formation with like 3 strikers and stuff like that to try and get even more goals. And maybe even making the terrible team play a terrible formation as well to take it a step further.

@Zealand Quick question? Is pace necessary with CB? I have thrashed too many saves because I am fed up with my defense. I lose games 4-3 I usually favor Setpieces with giant but slow defenders. A mid table team like mine cannot afford world class players so I tried to prioritise physical attributes but I am starting to think I should go for a well rounded players as CBs eg 12-13 for all physical stats instead of favoring jumping reach and strength

Hello, you could improve the result if you change the formation from Norwich to a 1-1-5-3 with extrem low defense line (avoid offside) and high running offense line (so much space in midfield). Fast and long passes.

Zealand, I have a thought. What about a 4 team custom league. Team 1 20s in technical stats then rest 1s, team 2 20s in mental stats and the rest 1s. Team 3 20s in physical stats then rest 1s. Team 4 all players in 10s. Find out which stats are more important or if a balance helps

I'm a canary but not a particularly optimistic one at the moment lol. How are you feeling about your chances next season? It feels like League One is getting harder every year now with teams like Derby and Wednesday coming down in recent years.

Do you score more if the keeper in the goal, ‘isn’t a keeper’ like maybe playing pukki in goal.. leaving the stats as you have them but does that change anything??

I feel one thing not accounted for was the morale, those Norwich players would have been nervous and frustrated all game whilst the City players would have been at peak confidence, bordering on complacency.

ive hit 40 and above in preseason friendlies against local teams but having the assistant manage. i bet with the right mix of tactics you could really up it. when i was kid playing 2007 i liked to screw newcastle so when i played them i would move all the goalkeepers into the first team and move the formation to have everyone play on the wings with no cbs and stuff so i bet you could really push it up like that

My record is about 52-0 with a team of almost 20 in everything against a team in Sweden third division. Gonna try against with some an even lower ranked team in Sweden to see if I can beat it. Should probably do what you did and change the opponents stats and height as well.

Club world record is 53-0 between two Polish clubs -> Wybrzeże Rewalskie Rewal decimated Pomorzanin Nowogard in a league game. I think it's 5 Polish tier if I remember right?

Would be cool to see you make a video out of that Norwich team but make them all young teenagers with 1 in everything except everything that has to do with potential and development. And see how much can you actually develop them until they reach like 28+ years old and finish their career/start losing skills. Also would be cool to see if a team like this City played a super non offensive tactic with full focus on defense. How many goals would they still score and win the match with? 😊

i once made fun competition for AI where Team 20 played against Team 1 like 30 games or whatever it finished with ±1000 goal difference or smth like this maybe i should try it again
