I am a teacher and I taught this song to my students to learn English. We learn history too because it talks about the fall of the Berlin wall. Rock is culture
In reality it was written before the fall of the Berlin wall, in the 1989 during a Klaus Mein trip in URSS,at the height of perestroika, inspired by the political changes that were then taking place in Eastern Europe.Despite being recognized as one of the symbols of the reunification of Germany.
You have to be a member of Scorpions to think of it that way. In fact, most people in power thought of this change in terms of ugly opportunities. I live there and we still fight. One more lesson to learn and to teach other people. Different people, different views, the beautiful are rare, but more poweful:)
This is my all time favorite Scorpions song. It hits very close to home for me, because most of my family lived behind the Iron Curtain for over 40 years. (My mom was the only one who escaped to West Berlin and eventually emigrated to the US), and I was there in 1989 when the wall finally came down.
I was there as well in 1989, my dad was stationed in Germany and brought me and my mom since it wasn't an Unaccompanied Tour. I was there to see that, I was seven. Heh, I still get some odd looks by people under forty when I say I do remember when East Germany existed and have been to West Berlin.
Amazing performance, the meaning of the song still brings tears to my eyes, truly a glory day when the wall came down, more so if we could stop all wars and live in peace ❤
I live in the United States but my brother was born in Germany. My family was there when this happened. My dad was stationed in Germany in the army. My dad said he remembered before the Wall came down, he was taking binoculars and looking over the wall and waving at people that he saw over the wall. They would wave back. My mother said that she felt like she was close to home. She was born in Belgium and adopted at 3:00 and brought to the United States by my grandparents. My grandmother who adopted her was also from Belgium but was allowed to stay when she came at 19 because they discovered that she had cancer. She was fine. My mother told me the story behind this and it is something else. My dad talks about it too. This song was extra special to me because of the story behind it and because my family was there when that happened. It brings me to tears every time I hear it. I was too young to remember being over there but my family was there. My mom has pictures of the mountains in Germany.
you can't be serious. Ask many Germans, the guy isn't very good vocally. I can name you better rock singers, just to name few: Michael Poulsen (Volbeat), Axl Rose (Guns'n'Roses), Mike Patton (Faith No More).
My 18 daughter traveled to Berlin 2 days ago and asked her to see original video to understand the Cold war and fall of wall of Berlin and end of communism era! then she understood the large amount of history she was about to live!!! thanks Scorpions...
When we were one. I was 16 watching freedom take place. If only the children of tomorrow truly understand divided we are nothing. It is only when we come together that we are one.
One must always hope. For us, it was the East German people being fed up with being lied to all the time and that the leadership was actually not willing to go against the people when they wanted this change. I still hope that someday that is also possible for your people to be united again. It's been over 30 years now for us, it's more than damn time for North Korea to follow. I was born in a divided Germany but now it's hard for me to consider it any different than united. I hope that one day you may share such a feeling.
as I said seven years ago, I'm french, and of the probably best friend nation of yours, Germany, wee're so proud that you did have this song to celebrate your unity. Forever, we will be behind you, we admire you, we are your neighbours, our both histories were so special, we build so many things together... Thanks to the Scorpions ant for this moment of magic.... I would like to say it in german, but it makes a so long time I learned your language.... Merci à Scorpion. Danke für Die Scorpions.
God bless scorpions. This song says it all. Always my favorite of there's and I love ALL there music. I'm of German decent and totally get it. They tore those walls down and thank you
Merci pour ces mots! Merci a vous! Mon francais n'est pas si bien, this is why I continue in English. I really love France and had beautiful holidays in France. Hopefully I will be there again. And this song of the Scorpions is one of the most moving ever. J'espere que la France et l'Allemagne serons des amis pour tous les temps. Bisous de l'Allemagne
Nice comment. Yes we have so much in common. It is up to ourself to teach our children and grandchildren to make sure the dark time of chauvinism and wars will never come back.
This song captures the hope, restlessness and desperation for change and peace.. A truly immortal composition which is more relevant today than ever.. It's hard rock yes, but it's not just noise like today..
Not a heavy metal rock gal, but this song by the Scorpions draws me back to seeing on tv the Iraqi's pulling, pushing over Saddam Hussein's statue in Iraq... this was the song that I played on the stereo while watching that time of the Winds of Change. Extraordinary moments in history. I sense this to be a time ...of repair, repentance, return to the heart of God for America... God wants to bless America...If we pray, seek Him and turn to Him as a Nation, again. The Spirit of the Lord is moving across the Land...awakened by prayers. There is a new day ...Winds of Change moving across our Land.
For some of us, this song is also a part of a 'celebration' the United States likes to have to welcome the Summer as in Memorial Day (weekend). For some of us, it is one of the worst days of the year.
When I take the time to listen to the universe, this is the song it sings to me. Always with the orchestra! 💛 The album version literally takes my breath away. 💛💛
Awesome version with the orchestra! I remember as a teen when this song came out, played it over n over ! so much hope for the future ...sadly things turned out not as I had hoped ..I'll always love the original version, but have a special place in my heart for the newer lyrics!💙💛Слава Україні!🇺🇦🌄🔱
Gracias a la orquesta, este tema sobre pasa cualquier tipo de dimensión musical que podamos percibir como magnifico. Sigue y va a seguir siendo lo mejor, a pesar de las generaciones, a pesar del tiempo y cualquier circunstancia. Saludos!
I can't live without you, without your songs, without your guitars, without your voice, unbelievable and very tender Klaus! Be healthy our uncomparable for ever!
im only 15 but this song really makes me feel something, this song have been my favourite since im 13, the first time I heard this song is when I'm at a supermarket, im at the tv section, then suddenly this song pops out, I instantly fall to this song, but that time I still didnt know the title of this song, then I got it few months later

I follow the Moskva down to Gorky Park Listening to the wind of change An August summer night, soldiers passing by Listening to the wind of change The world is closing in And did you ever think That we could be so close like brothers? The future's in the air, I can feel it everywhere I'm blowing with the wind of change Take me to the magic of the moment On a glory night Where the children of tomorrow dream away (dream away) In the wind of change Mh-mmh Walking down the street And distant memories are buried in the past forever I follow the Moskva and down to Gorky Park Listening to the wind of change Take me (take me) to the magic of the moment On a glory night (a glory night) Where the children of tomorrow share their dreams (share their dreams) With you and me (with you and me) Take me (take me) to the magic of the moment On a glory night (a glory night) Where the children of tomorrow dream away (dream away) In the wind of change (the wind of change) The wind of change blows straight into the face of time Like a storm wind that will ring the freedom bell for peace of mind Let your balalaika sing what my guitar wants to say (say) Take me (take me) to the magic of the moment On a glory night (a glory night) Where the children of tomorrow share their dreams (share their dreams) With you and me (you and me) Take me (take me) to the magic of the moment On a glory night (a glory night) Where the children of tomorrow dream away (dream away) In the wind of change (the wind of change)

True, I grew up in the time when nuclear weapons and war was front and center in everyone’s lives. I remember air alerts, and the knowledge that came with it. It was actually terrifying. I grew up in this nightmare. I ended up joining the us army, being stationed in the most dangerous place on earth of ww3 were to break out. Basically at the tip of the spear. This is my war song. Hooah BLACKHORSE, Allons.
