Good information but more importantly, good talking tempo. I appreciate how you get to the point and there's no or very little fluff, and definitely no "um....uh...." that turns a 15-minute video into 45 minutes of torture that usually ends after the first 2 minutes. (Yes, I'm thinking of specific GMs from other chess channels.)

yeah I agree 😂 they definitely need to take some speech classes. I love agadmator's videos but man listening to "but uhhh......." for 10-15 seconds at a time 4x per minute.. makes u wanna bang your head

At 4:30, Qh5+ before capturing the bishop is a little more accurate IMO. If the king moves to f8 then you are capturing with check, which allows you to capture the c3 pawn. If he plays g6, he has just weakened his kingside that much more, and will have to play Nf6, which is a pin that can be played against.

This is a fantastic chess lesson!! Thank you so much for not only showing a brilliant opening but for covering all the different lines that players can take, not just the ones that seem obvious to good players. I suck at chess but really want to improve so it can be hard to understand "standard" openings. So thanks so much for covering all of the lines that black could make in response, even the seemingly obvious ones where black get put in check mate in like 3 moves lol. I really appreciate it!

Theoretically every gambit is lost. Black can destroy the Scotch gambit by defending his central pawn with another flank pawn by delaying Nc6 and pushing with c5 instead, thus defending his central pawn and placing it in front of the knight. Then Black will never take on c3 and frustrate the hell out of you. from there it's all down the hill for White. If White tries to blast the center with e5, Black has a very strong response with d5!

i saw this video 10 years ago and funny enough its my favorite opening to play with white. For whatever reason, I remembered this opening and all of its variations for 10 years even after taking year long hiatuses. This opening is very good in blitz and typically will cause black to eat away at their time due to the many threats and sharp lines that come from this. Even if black plays 100% accurate, white will still have a well developed game and can still win. Definitely a good opening from 500-2000 elo

Nice. Houdini suggested after Qf6, then pawn c3, then if queen g6, then castle. Then if qg6xe4, then bxf7. From there it is either a queen loss or mate. So it would be very bad for queen to take pawn at e4. I think I would defend this way because it is such a great trap. Houdini just taught me a new trap. Yay.

I was white and had a Bishop on F7, Knight on G5, and his King went E7. So out of check, and no place for me to bring any more pieces without being blocked or losing a piece. I guess the garden spot would be white Knight on E5, then tons of room to bring the house up the right side wherever the king tries to go..

And the variation where you discuss black playing Ne4 in response to the pawn push e5, if white responds with Bd5, then black has the move Nxf2+! Kxf2 dxc3+ Ke1 cxb2 followed by black playing something like Qe7...here white doesnt have the capture on c3 with tempo choice! Again a razor sharp play ensues...:)

At about 6:50, instead of recapturing on c3 with the b pawn, I think White also does well simply to castle, and give up a second pawn for quick development. If black then captures again on b2, White takes back with the bishop, and has a great bishop pair aiming at the Black king.

what about 1.e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 f3? And you say in 2:45 that c3 does many things, i played it twice, and both my opponents play d3. and you say that castling is something you don't like it because it is not very aggressive, but that is the only variation that got me the most success...

At 10:40, it is very tempting to try to save the dark square bishop. But the issue (not mentioned in the video), is that any attempt at doing that runs into cxb2. Black is going to queen and take a rook in the process

I play with Qh5 sometimes, but a few moves later. instead of Qh5 on 2 minutes 16, you can also just take the pawn on f7 with the knight right? cause after ...Nxf7, Bxf7-Kxf7 you can also fork the bishop and the king with Qh5+.

To help remember all this I just think if black moves his bishop at all, then you play pawn c3, then remember the bishop momentary sacrifice, the bishop forking the two knights on e5, and if he plays the queen to e7 or knight c6 to just castle.

In the variation where white takes the bishop on e7 with the pawn, can't black just take the pawn with the queen? That puts white in check and will force white to move the king, preventing him from castling later on. Bishop to e3 loses the bishop when the pawn captures it, and if white blocks with the queen on e2, then black trades queens forcing the white king to move so he can't castle. Look at about 13 minutes in. Can someone address this? Thanks.
