I was in Germany 🇩🇪 for 10 days for the Euros. Wonderful, welcoming and friendly people. We made great friends in the streets and bars of Koblenz, Munich, Cologne and Stuttgart. Thank you Germany and its people for looking after us so well. I love an Andechs beer now too! 😂🍺

As a Munich resident I've seen many kinds of fans come and go. Scottish fans stood out to me because I got to sit on my balcony at night hearing the sound of bag pipes in the city streets. Very nice. I also have to say that Scots and Bavarians are just very compatible, it seems. Neither drink responsibly, but are experienced enough to avoid the worst outcomes. Both have their weird instruments and local garb and are barely understood by the mainland. Like brothers from another mother. But I also gotta say that recent months and years have basically been full of culture war stuff, but most people don't experience any of that in their normal lives, they just see it online or in the news, but it still shapes expectations. Its essentially fear mongering. In Germany there was a feeling of uncertainty before the Cup as a result of that. People expected violence, depending on whether you are more left or more right leaning you were either more concerned about terrorist attacks, or about Nazi chants and attacks. So now many people are kind of relieved to experience that the vast majority of people are just good people looking to have a good time. Maybe this is a little reality check in times were we are surrounded by stories of human depravity on the news all the time.

I'm English I was in cologne on Wednesday had great day with Scots met some people great memories

Met 4 Scots in 2006, when out local hotels were overbooked and they stayed with us. Been friends since then, they are like uncles to our kids and brothers to us and vice versa. The first ones to call on our birthdays in the morning are our Scottish friends. Will never forget those great 2 weeks. Unfortunately, Scotland did not qualify for the WC in 2006, but great summer anyway.

True story - Years ago I was laying on a beach in Tenerife when a German couple came over, put their belonhings down on the sand next to mine and asked if Id mind looking after them while they went for a swim. The guy said he had an expensive watch in the bag and asked if I'd make sure no one touched it. I was obviously a bit taken aback so I asked why they chose me. He pointed to my towel which had a Scotland flag on it and said "You're Scottish, yes? I would not dare ask an English cause I know I would not be coming back to my watch" 😂😂 After they got back we sat and chatted just about till sunset sharing stories and love of drinks (mostly beer) and singing songs to each other haha German people are lovely and they were a very spritely and kind older couple. Mad respect for the Germans!
