We had it twice in 74 and 78, the latter dissapointing and the former being conned out of progression. 82 was unlucky but out of reach of the quality of Brazil, they were too good. Mexico we couldn't even get of the ground because of those dirty Uruguayan bastards. 90 was a 'too late' affair after the attrocius start against Costa Rica and Roxburgh not prepping properly then turning on the glimpses of magic later against Sweden and the 'unlucky mate' game against Brazil. We were world class and when we were gonna say what we were gonna do in the quals, we sure as shit, and shit of a shovel too, done the job. The recipe of failure well honed and all too familiar: Creeping doubt after confidence to reach the actual tournament, complacency by not reading their opponents fully before and during games, that if they done that a lil bit more they had the skills and the firepower to succeed. A lack of consistancy for 90 minutes and silly errors, managers not using the top players and stars in the right places or not even starting them in the key games they should have and a familiarity to being glorious in defeat when it should not be acceptable. No other nation in football has ever quite done this like Scotland.

We may have had a couple of ref decisions go our way in 66 but that is all we have had in the last 80 years . I can make a list of bent refereeing decisions against England . I would be here all day. David Reed Actually England had a better team in 1970. So why didn’t Scotland qualify for the World Cup in 66 if you were so good. We’ve also won the Rugby and Cricket World Cup, just thought I’d put that in. I thought England played some good football at the last World Cup technically.
