Greetings RU-vid! An epic 12 hour riding day is well underway and this episode sees me travel from Ullapool to Applecross. The scenery is stunning, the weather is changeable and the midges are absolutely ferocious. I've got no food, nowhere to stay and still the little beasties keep biting...

I was there I '23 as well but did the journey in reverse as I was heading to the Orkneys. I loved it so much that I'm going back in '24 and heading to the Outer Hebridies. If it's any consolation, I got eaten alive too.I even got fuel at the same station as you as well. Lol.

Those midges really are something else but the scenery makes up for them! I’m very jealous about the Orkney’s - would have loved to have visited them… so glad you are heading back in ‘24 - my eldest lad, Ben, has just passed his full test and has bought a Triumph Tiger - he’s mentioned doing the NC500… maybe there’s a return trip on the cards for me to! Just curious (as you film several hours per day) , do you carry a lot of camera memory cards or transfer everything to high storage capacity flash drives ?

Hi, both! I have three SD cars on which I can save around 20 hours of 4K footage. Every night at the close of play I transfer the day’s filming to a 2TB external hard drive - it usually takes a couple of hours to get it done…

I did the NC500 (plus a bit) in the same direction as you a couple of years ago. The ride from the A835 to Applecross is amazing, both the roads and the scenery. As for midges. I camped in Tongue and it was a wet'n'windy evening, the next morning was misty and still so I changed my route as I would have seen nothing along the coast and instead I rode a few miles inland. I crossed a typical old stone hump backed bridge and stopped at the top as there were two red deer stags just below the bridge.... a wonderful photo op. Before I had even reached forward to turn off the engine, I saw them coming, in a massive swarm. Needless the say the deer remain a memory.... rather than a photograph!

Steve, in Gairloch if you had carried on another 200yds you would have came to the Mountain View cafe. Great coffee and scones like the size of the rock of Gibraltar (but not as hard) I’ve enjoyed both this and your WAW Adv’s, Where to next.

Norrie, I clearly need you travelling with me as that sounds like absolutely the sort of cafe I would like! Where to next... The first episode in December sees me blasting through France and Spain en route to Africa and riding through the Sahara desert... it's going to be epic!

As you say "what a biking community we have to share" - only thing is, when I did the NC500 in June, all the way from the Cotswolds, on my smokey Yamaha YB100 2 stroke, I didn't get too many nods, kicks or waves......funny that! Guess a 70 year old motorcyclist, riding for 55 years and opting not to use my T100 must accept I'm not recognised in that community!! Sorry to put that little moan on your excellent video but maybe it will make young guys riding big bikes think!!

Hi Rob, so glad you liked the episode. You have a valid point! My son Ben, whom I did the Wild Atlantic Way with earlier in the year, got himself a 125 and L plates shortly after that trip. Nary a wave or nod to be had... He's literally just passed his test (we have some future bike tour plans hatching for next year) and has treated himself to a Triumph Tiger sport 660. Suddenly other bikers see him! As a soon to be 55 year old life-long biker, I plan to relive my youth at some point and find myself an early 70's Yamaha FS1E in popsicle purple just like I had when I was 16. It will be interesting to see if I become invisible on that when the time comes!

@@TwoWheeledDreamer OOooh a Fizzy is going to make you poor! Actually in 2022 I took the YB all around Ireland - circumnavigation in the peeing rain and in all honesty it was better than the NC500 - especially for being right next to the ocean! I am in a little informal club of small engined bikers down here in Wiltshire and we have a hell of a laugh - good luck and ride safe !!

I give a nod to all powered 2 wheelers , some bikers are snobs and as such aren't real bikers , years ago at dunnet head we met a lad doing nc500 on a monkey bike , I said "you make us look like tossxrs on our fully loaded adventure bikes" and for all you snobs , remember this ,those on smaller bikes will be having more fun/adventure" TommyTickle

Really enjoyed that. Have never been to Scotland but those midges would really put me off! Fab scenery and roads though.

Thank you, so glad you enjoyed it! I really picked the wrong month for midges- earlier in the year and it would have been midge free… it was all worth it though - what a spectacular part of the world! Thanks for watching and commenting 😊
