Incredible from Ireland. The highlights don't show it but they had 4 forwards off injured in the first half and had a prop and flanker playing hooker for most of the second half. Great resolve from Ireland to cancel scotland out in the second half. Great game
^ this - it shows a lack of commitment to truly understand the game as a direct sport - a like his energy but his insight is lacking (and not too bothered about developing it) as he’s persistently looking at this as a slightly weird breathless version of AFL - i don’t expect someone to straight-off start watching 5hrs of rugby but he could one match to concentrate on - it’s shallow and just for views - 6Nations is just 4-6 potential new groups of viewers for his channel
You should watch the full game, it was insane. In the first half lost both hookers, Doris and Henderson fractured his arm. Van Der Flier was throwing the lineouts, Cian Healy (prop) came on to scrum as the hooker. Ringrose was stretchered off with a neck injury in the second half and they still won. I wonder what the score would have looked like if none of this happened and they all grew into the game together.
23:25 pal if ireland win on Saturday, they'll win a grand slam. Not just the 6 nations trophy and the triple Crown... it could all happen at home in the aviva stadium on St Patrick's weekend. Also sexton. Could become tye all time 6 nations point scorer.
Really nice to hear you getting into the rugby man, and helping to grow interest as well! - I'm Irish, and I'm honestly on cloud 9 at the minute with the rugby, this is the best time ever for Irish rugby and I'm enjoying the sh-tuff out of it! They've silenced all the doubters, their ability to roll with the punches and keep their heads when things get rough. Try disallowed, injuries in key positions, 1st and 2nd choice hookers going off and playing with 3 props in the front row, VDF throwing in the lineout and still bossing the set piece regardless. Just incredible stuff. I honestly believe that if we had to play France this Saturday, in France, this Irish team would find a way to win. Even without Ringrose. Fortunately, we've only got England, in Dublin, on Paddy's weekend, for the Slam. It's going to be a craicer! Come on Ireland 🇮🇪👏🏉🙌🎉☘️❤️
Thanks for your passion and showing respect to the Male Masculinity of to the best Sport in the world, love seeing how you learn more of the world of rugby. And your admiration for the hardest and most dedicated men in the world.
The women's world Cup last year was brilliant! Especially the semi finals between France and the kiwis and the finals, but the whole competition was amazing. It gave me everything I need from sport and I highly recommend checking it out. I just have give mad respect for the ladies as well because the passion, the determination and the professionalism is all there man! - It's a great game though, it's lovely to see foreign interest in the sport growing. - And come on Ireland! 🇮🇪🏉🙌👏
Just enjoy how far you have come in watcing rugby with no idea, in the last couple of years, to your knowledge of the game, countries, and players. Much love to you and your channel!
Ireland lost 5 players during that match. Each team has 15 players on field plus 8 possible substitutes. That is 21.7% of their entire squad. How many teams could get the job done after losing over 20% of their players? Incredible stuff. Scotland are a really good team. The problem for Scotland is that they dont seem to have the young players coming through to maintain and grow on the foundation laid by this team. Ireland Under 20s beat Scotland Under 20s the night before by 82 points to 7. I would love Scottish Rugby to become a force once again. Its been too long since they were competitive. We also need England and Wales to focus on growing young talent if we want the game in the Northern Hemisphere to be competitive with NZ, SA and AU as well as Argentina.
Scotland have always punched well above their weight in the game of rugby, but they do suffer from the fact that rugby is not a majority participation sport in Scotland. By far the biggest sport played in Scotland is football. There are only two fully professional rugby clubs in Scotland from which the Scottish Rugby Union select players from.
Really good game. Highlights don't show how good either team is. Stuart Hogg on 100th cap for Scotland, Gary Ringrose on 50th cap for Ireland. Ireland did really well despite loosing both hookers, a 2nd row a number 8 plus Ringrose to a nasty head knock.
Sean, there are 2 main trophies played for in the 6 nations. First is the Championship which to the overall win. You would prefer to win it by beating all the other teams in the competition, but you will take it just by having the most points. The second is the Triple Crown. This is the historic competition which is between Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales and can only be won by beating the other 3 teams (hence triple crown). This is still a coveted trophy, but is honestly secondary to the overall championship now.
The oldest trophy played for in the Six Nations is actually the Calcutta Cup which has been competed for by Scotland and England since 1871. This is the oldest international rugby fixture of them all and the Calcutta Cup match actually precedes what was originally the Home Nations Championship by 12 years. The Home Nations Championship became the Five Nations Championship when France joined Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales in 1910. Then Italy joined in 2000 to form the Six Nations. You mention the Triple Crown, but there is the Grand Slam which is very much coveted too. You can win the Six Nations with just four wins out of the five, but you get the distinction of being Grand Slam Champions if you win all five games.
Yes. Forgot to say it was the Grand Slam when you beat all of the other 5 teams in it. I did know about the Calcutta Cup, but I didnt want to make my explanation too long.
You should check out the Ireland U20s. They beat Scotland 82-7. And are now on course for back to back 6 nations. Seniors and U20s on for grand slams this paddy's weekend
With Scotland I totakky agree with you. Although I dont really say they cant keep it together for the whole 80 because they can. The tries we conceded were all on the side and they were due to individual errors or 1 occasion were the Irish team managed to pack all the scottish fowards within 10 meters of eachother.
Yep, Ireland was tough and consistent. That was an epic battle during 50 minutes. Big defenses, turn over and counter turn over... but Ireland is a rock. Scot's spent too much energy for no gain.. very proud boys and courageous but no offensive efficiency. After Gibson Park's entrance, Ireland made the break and that was over.
‘Grand slam’ on the line next weekend against our biggest rivals England on St Patrick’s day in Dublin is gunna be tasty. I don’t see anything but I big win for Ireland as England got absolutely hammered by 43 points by France at the weekend and Ireland already thumped France!! We also had 5 big injuries in this game. So many players had to play out of position but Irelands strength in depth is incredibly strong now. There’s talented younger guys that can fill in seamlessly if some player gets injured, and do just as good a job. We were also missing arguably our best player in this game. His name is Tadhg Beirne. He plays in the second row and he’s been one of the best players in world rugby this year and last year. I suggest you watch his tribute and highlight reels. He’s incredibly abrasive and athletic for such a big man. He’s like Joey Bosa but even bigger. I love 5 minutes away from the stadium in Dublin so I can’t wait for the game and then to have the absolute craic afterwards when we win! Cmon Ireland let’s show all these teams in world rugby who’s boss 🇮🇪☘️💪🏻
Yep you just increased the count.. Sean Tyler does not claim to be an expert - I dont like the "Just American" part of your comment.. Sean is always interesting to watch - and gives a slightly different (maybe a bit less informed) perspective.... He is honest and straight talking, which I like... and knows his limits in terms of Rugby knowledge...
Sean, that was Stuart Hogg's son who brought the match ball on at the start of the game which marked Hogg's 100th international. I have to congratulate you on your understanding of certain aspects of this great game called rugby union, but you really would benefit and be able to give a more accurate analysis of the game if you had been able to see the whole match. This package of highlights does not cover the fact that Ireland actually lost several players to injury, including both hookers, throughout the course of the game. You didn't really draw attention to the fact that Duhan Van Der Merwe was denied at least a couple of very good try scoring opportunities by outstanding defensive tackles by Hugo Keenan and James Lowe. Ireland's defensive organisation was absolutely outstanding throughout the 80 minutes. One thing you perhaps don't consider as an important factor in the result of this game was how Ireland completely nullified the effectiveness of Scotland's principal playmaker Finn Russell. Finn Russell, I'm sure you will agree, has skills which lets him do outrageous things that Johnny Sexton can't even imagine being able to do. Where Sexton wins over Russell is his general game is less likely to break down. He is a much safer pair of hands, if I can put it that way. He plays a much simpler game and doesn't take many risks, whereas Finn is all about taking risks. When Finn's game works, it excites the fans and makes everyone's jaws drop with astonishment, but sometimes Finn out-thinks himself and makes the wrong decision. One such example of poor decision-making which you haven't mentioned because it wasn't covered by the highlights was Finn deciding to kick to the corner when Scotland were awarded a penalty right at the end of the first half. Sometimes you have to take easy points on the scoreboard when they are on offer. Stuart Hogg fancied taking a kick at goal, and while Finn might have struggled to make the distance, Hogg with his greater range would have had a better than average chance of kicking the goal and the 3 points would have sent Scotland in to the dressing room team-talk with a two point advantage instead of a one point deficit. It might not have had a decisive influence in terms of the full-time score, but it would possibly have given the Scots a bit of a psychological lift and sense of achievement as reward for all their efforts in what had been a brutal first half. Another factor which these highlights don't make clear is the replacement of Conor Murray at scrum-half with Jameson Gibson-Park. I feel this was the decisive change Andy Farrell made at half-time which ensured an Irish victory. Conor Murray is a very good scrum-half, but he is not in Gibson-Park's class. Gibson-Park upped the pace of the Irish attacking effort and that was made even more emphatic when Scotland looked to their replacements bench. If there is any weakness in the Scotland squad, it is in their replacement bench and that is possibly a result of the limited pool of players Scotland can choose from relative to the likes of France and England and the Southern Hemisphere nations. They changed their whole front row who had flogged themselves into the ground, bringing on Jamie Bhatti, Fraser Brown and Simon Berghan. They're not quite as good as the starting trio of Pierre Schoeman, George Turner and Zander Fagerson and there was a perceptible drop off in competitiveness thereafter. The admirable qualities I, as a proud Scotsman, have to applaud this current Ireland team for is their unity of purpose in the squad and their adaptability or their ability to think on their feet and deal with problems that arise without panicking. Losing both their specialist hookers to injury necessitated playing with three prop forwards in the front row of the scrum and using Josh Van Der Flier to do the hooker's job of throwing in to the lineout. This quality is what, for me, sets them apart from the utter cluelessness of the way England approached their encounter with France the previous day. England failed miserably to change their game plan when it was clear their tactical kicking ploy was not working and we've just seen the reason why Ireland will win the Grand Slam this year. By the way Sean, I recommend you check out the Eggchasers Rugby channel on RU-vid for some balanced comment and tactical analysis on matches. I think the guy actually works in the in a professional capacity in rugby. And if you want to get a referee's perspective on the Six Nations, check out Nigel Owens' Whistle Watch podcast on RU-vid where he explains the various decisions during the game and why they were made. He is a well respected former international rugby referee.
The tackle wasn’t fine in rugby you have to try wrap your arms you can’t shoulder charge or bash you have to at least try grab with an arm. Ireland also had to adjust on the fly after losing a lot of players to injury.
You are watching the “highlights” here, which is fine. But the highlights, by their very nature, can’t and don’t show every moment and minute of the game. So I’m wondering if there is any way you can watch these games live, where you can really get into the atmosphere of the game. Next Saturday’s game Ireland v England in Dublin will be on TV at 4.45pm Irish time. So my recommendation for you is to find an Irish bar in your town and go there to watch the game live, wearing your Irish jersey or green hat or scarf. Maybe just have one beer during the game. Maybe two! I guarantee you’ll have a good time..
You need to watch the full game. The highlights show the tries, but miss the amount of injuries Ireland had to deal with, and still came through. I think the only thing the Irish players care about now is completing the grand slam. England will do their best to stop them, but they'll have to improve a lot over their performance on Saturday.
Nah the kiwis are grand. Definitely the Saffers. Ireland are living in their heads rent free. They turn up in comment sections on mass after Ireland wins to try and discredit them. Most of them are a weird, humourless c*nts to.
Love to see how your knowledge of the game and the players have evolved since I've seen your first reaction video. I so wished you'll become a Bok supporter, but being an All Black is okay I guess
I think you have a good understanding of the game. Missed point on injuries for Ireland & how they adapted 7 throwing line outs and a prop as hooker. In 1st half was interesting point about the marked off try (disallowed correctly but due to a rule that favours the team making the mistake of throwing in the wrong ball). You were right about Scotland falling off + Van Der Merwe (poor tackling & nullified). Rugby is a hard game to understand but once you get into it, it’s addictive. Doing a good job, keep it up!
Its the GRAND SLAM we win when we batter England this Saturday and thats just for starters for the main we are having the Webb Elis this Summer in France thank you very much . Beat The All Black 2 to 1 on there Home Soil first team from the Northern Hemisphere to do so only team to beat the ABs at home after losing first test . Then beat South Africa to see who were seeded number 1 in world . By far the best team on the planet . ShouldertoShoulder.
This was a massive game - Ireland and Scotland are in the same Rugby World Cup group, so lots of background story. Ireland were decimated by injuries during this game but to a man they stood up. They got no favours from a home town decisions from the referee. Scotland played like Ireland did in 80’s and ran out of puff at half time. They can ball, when they have fast ball the teams handling is slick. Hogg contributed nothing for 100 cap. Ireland had to rope-a-dope and just show the difference in fitness in the end. And the worst thing is is this Irish team is Leinster plus others (the rest of the country is contributing a token player or 2 😅. Not a Leinster support, just in awe of the squad / team).
