Another great bassline by Dave Richmond, very challenging, too.
Thanks to him for confirming that it was played with fingers and recorded with a DI.
I believe it was in a radio interview where I heard him talk about this recording : He was not convinced by the written bass line and asked the arranger if he could try something else. We really hear his jazz double bass playing in this improvisation : He plays in the chords of the grid and spice it up by adding tensions, chromatisms ... It’s pretty close, in my opinion, to what James Jamerson, also a former double bass player, did on "What’s going on" and Motown tracks in general.
This is a 1963 Burns Bison with rotosound tru-bass tapewound black nylon. It was recorded in cubase direct to soundcard.
