the only reason why Pippen received less recognition by these blind fans, because he was not playing for himself, he was not seeking an attention by the fans. instead he is playing for the team. Scottie is one of the few UNSELFISH STAR PLAYER in nba history.
Pip had a more polished well rounded offensive game than LeBron has today. He had a post up game, a jump shot off the backboard and ran the offense like a point guard. He did not care about his scoring average only wins. All his teams advanced past the first round which proves his team first play was effective. Then on defense his ability to roam the floor to help others and then recover to his own man was where his reputation was built on defense. Mike would control the scoring and scottie would take over defensively. Mike acknowledges scottie's importance and impact repeatedly yet many don't seem to listen.
As Pippen being my favorite player of all time, I have to disagree, Lebron can single handedly take over games. I remmeber I'd cringe when Pippen would take threes. But he just played the right way. lebron is a better scorer and I think that has to do with the me first gen, even though Lebron is kinda unselfish.
I looked up the statistics as regards to "who is better". Statistically LeBron runs circles around Pippen and beats him in every majir catagory other than steals......ppg assist and even on rebounds.....Pippen has more championships because of you know who.....
@@rollingthunda2775 Higher stats doesn't mean that one player is better than another in a TEAM SPORT. If that were true, Russell Westbrook would be considered one of the all time greats. Its their impact on the outcome of the game that truly defines ones greatness. For example, in the 98 Finals against Utah, Scottie Pippen could barely walk because of a back injury. Yet everyone knew (including Jordan and Phil Jackson) that he had to play if the Bulls had any chance of winning their 6th championship. His PRESENCE made the difference and not his NUMBERS. You can't measure that, but it's there none the less.
The greatest 1 / 2 punch in history end of story. For me, Scottie was just as dominant and unstoppable as Michael at times. I'm glad I got to watch them both at their peak.
You say Lebron would score 40 and that's possible - he would score 40 in a LOSING cause while Pippen limits the rest of the starters to 5 points each... he defends against the entire team while defending his opponent!! Anybody who watched every game like I did back then knows this is a fact
Prince Cyrill: Warriors fan since 2015 Pippen is a better defender than any who have ever guarded lebron. He was 6'8. Quicker than lebron. Faster overall than lebron. Might even out jump him. On defense, he would stick to him like glue. He'd guard the dribble, the drive, the shot. I'd like to see that matchup. Lebron might hate playing scottie. He also never ever relented. Go, go, go, go.....
Prince Cyrill: Warriors fan since 2015 As a Bulls fan, I've watched too many games where LeBron was made to disappear by people like Luol Deng, Ronnie Brewer, and Jimmy Butler. LeBron would be lucky to get 15, and he will definitely disappear in the 4th.
What bothers me with people comenting on Pippen is the IF. "IF he haven't played with MJ" "IF he was more selfish" "IF he had his own team". Start looking at what PIPPEN was! Was an athletic freak, with great size and wingspan. Great handles and skills, able to drive to the basket, hit tuff jumpers and was a great 3pt shooter. One of the best defenders the game has ever seem. Had amazing court vision, point forward skills and always put the team first. One of the most complete players EVER.
Watching this video series is about as emotional as watching the "Rocky" movies. Scottie was an unbelievable talent. The guy probably could have led the league in scoring for a number of years, but was so busy doing all the other little things that help a team win that lots of people never pay attention to. There is not a better all around player in the league today than Scottie Pippen, IMO. He is one of the best EVER, PERIOD, AND I MISS HIM !!!!!!!
In my teens when I watched these games I only had eyes for Jordan.. after watching these videos.. I see that the whole world is wrong.. the best player ever is Pippen.. but Michael was picked up because he was more handsome for marketing.
If pippen had played with Stockton and Malone, they would have won at least three championships. Or if he had played with Hakeem also. Jordan was lucky to have him. Also, he was one of the few defenders who could have given Michael problems in a.playoff series. His playoff defense was pivotal in many of those close bull victories. That is why he is an all-time great. An impact player with the talent and attitude to make a very good team into a champion.
I'm glad I was alive to witness the excellence of Pippen and Jordan. If you think "athlete", these two have to be at the top of the list in the game of basketball and the sports world, period. If all players were as dedicated to their sport as these two, it would create another level of competition altogether. Batman and Robin..... neither could have accomplished what they achieved without the other. We may never witness another pair like these two ever again. FAN FOR LIFE !!!!!!
Pippen was seriously underrated and to this day does not recieve the respect he should. Imagine a prime Pippen going to Cleveland at the same time lebron did. If he had been on that team he would have averaged 40 points a game along with double digit boards and assists. Just watching Pippens game compared to Lebrons is no contest. Pippen is much more fluid and polished. So much finesse. Lebron looks mediocre in comparison. Im sorry, just being honest.
I agree, Scottie was more skilled offensively and defensively than lebron. When Jordan retired and Pippen was the main scorer he was putting up crazy number leading the team in points and rebounds and steals if I remember correctly. Which is why he won all star MVP, when he was the go to guy, just deadly
I think the only real argument is not what the talent of the individual is, but which player helps elevate his teammates play to the fullest by coaching them on the floor as to where they should be positioned, and inspiring them with confident words ---- that is Pippen and Lebron does not have that trait... this explains why Pippen won 3 more championships with a completely different roster (aside from Jordan), and also explains why Pippen was considered the favorite teammate by his teammates!
people keep saying that pippen is underrated and i'd have to disagree. he might be underrated to those who didn't watch him growing up simply because these days all you hear about is still jordan and rarely people mention pippen. but back in the days everyone knew pippen was a force of nature, he was and is still is very respected. after all he is a hall of famer and was on the top 50 nba player list. the real fans knew his contribution, his team knew his contribution, the NBA knew his contribution, but all of you who are on the outside looking in are obviously clueless... he's well rated not underrated...
Pippen took it vs SF / PF / C ... Their 1st championship vs the Lakers he personally shut down Magic , a job that MJ lost in the first finals game ... Pippen is the SF "GOAT"
Pippen is a BEAST of a player!!!!! All rounder blessed w/ a great court sense, power and grace. I'm glad to have had the privilege in watching his work w/ the Bulls & Jordan
Banging over HoF Centers - 0:33 Shaq, 1:15 David Robinson, 2:23 Hakeem 'The Dream' Olajuwon ... & everyone already knows how he R.I.P.'d Patrick Ewing's ass in the playoffs.
"Scottie Pippen is murder". I love Hubie Brown lol. Scottie had skill coming out of his ears....the footwork, the spin moves, mid-range game, 3 point range, great finisher with either hand. He had it all.
The best all around basketball ball player from the 90s to now!!.. There was nothing Pippen couldn't do defensively or offensively. If I'm wrong tell me what pippens weakness was? Yes we know he could choke late in games, but he made his fair share of clutch shots as well.
If Scottie Pippen would have played without Michael, SP would have went down as the greatest F of all-time. Not just SF, but F. Im talking greater than Larry Bird, Baylor, Duncan, Malone, Worthy, Barkely, all of them. But the fact that he still became as great as he was, along side arguably the greatest of all time, Makes him even more special.
nba entertainment sold videos solely on shaq, grant hill, and charles barkley, all lesser players, but not one solely on Pippen. That shows jordans overwhelming shadow and commercialism. These videos are the redemption of that glaring mistake.....
When I was a kid, I actually favored Pippen over Jordan. He was just such an awesome player. Sadly, where I live, I didn't get to watch that many games though
One thing to take note of is the title: Power and Grace... For many of us...it's not about the stats and all...just the beauty of watching the grace from Pippen playing basketball... Even my sister, who is not a bball fan...had to say 'there's a grace about the way Pippen plays' wayback in 93...
@OneGloriousBastard Durant and Pippen make no sense. Durant is more like a big Ray Allen (who is my 2nd favorite player of all time), but Durant isn't close to the slasher Scottie is nor does he have close to the power he had. Not to mention Durant plays in this softball era that gives the offensive player every advantage you cant think of. Pippen actually had to deal with had checking.
Great video. Congratulations to Scottie for getting inducted into the hall of fame. You deserve it. When you came into your own you allowed Michael to continue to do what he did and you played your role. Michael may always be remembered as the one who drove the car to the Bulls 6 championships but you will always be remembered as the engine that helped power the Bulls to those 6 championships. Thank you for the memories.
@montiel291 Lebron has nothing on Pippen defensively and Lebron plays in the soft ball era that gives the offensive player every advantage. Pippen could easily average 25 points in this weak era with no hand checking.
@S1576 I just have a ton of games/footage I've collected over the years. At the time I was recording all of this stuff I never dreamed RU-vid would come along and allow me to share it all lol.
Machine Vandals - The Reckoning. I didn't use the whole thing so don't be thrown off by the beginning when you start playing it. The whole track is great.
Man I watched EVERY ONE of these highlights live(WGN). Sigh, my lil ass simply didn't know/appreciate the greatness of pippen. Looking back, we might've gotten TWO(rings without him), & that's pushing it.
I have the biggest respect for him because he could have been the franchise player at another club with a team built around him, but he accepted his role as the Robin to MJ's Batman. That shows character and humility, because he was one of the most skillful and complete players in NBA history. He could do it all. MJ had the most competetive drive of any player I've ever seen, and that's what drove him to max out his talent. He earnt his status with the sweat he left on the court every night.
Scottie Pippen imho is one of the top ten players of all time! He could do it all! shoot, pass he was an excellent defender, had those long arms to swipe the ball away from defenders and create fast break opportunities. He was excellent at running the fast break, he was quick and had that ferocious athletic ability combined with the finesse, and he was an awesome finisher. Perimeter? low post? high post? he could do it all? He's the perfect all around player and one of the best players ever
I don't think it's fair to compare Pippen to LBJ, yes they're both SF TECHNICALLY speaking, but the reason why Pippen's game looks smoother, is b/c really LBJ is a PF (w/ a good handle) - he's 6'8 - 250, if he was an inch taller he'd be Karl Malone. Look at highlights of Karl Malone, LBJ looks about as 'smooth/fluid' as Karl Malone but NEVER as much finesse as Pippen, b/c Pippen's game weight was 210.
@96infinitii30 Dude. You have to be a very young person. I've been a Bulls fan since '85 & I love MJ's dirty sneakers, but Pip was the heart of that team, and he could do anything on a bball court. Although Pip won no titles without MJ, MJ won none without Pip, & Pip got closer to winning one without MJ when Portland played LA in the Western Conf Final in '99. Jordan never made it past the first round.
I guess youre correct, lebron uses his power to bully his way to the basket, just like barkley, pip didnt have that, he depends on his athleticism, anyway PIppen IS DA MAN, We all know and jordan knows it, comparing players from this era from another is fun but not fair, because basketball has change a lot, and players become really skillz from a young age, thats why lebron at 25 well destroy Jordan at 25, just jordan will destroy Dr J at 25, is call evolution.
lebron is an upgrade of pippen, bigger, stronger, and faster. Is call evolution, thats why records got brake faster, diferents times an era, people, thats why we cannot compare players from the past with todays, because shaq in the 60s and 70s will totally scores 80 ppg. back in the pippen era nba was different, rules, training, game tempo, defense, offense(nba was better) any case, maybe 5 to 10 years from now some dude will take nba by storm and everybody will compare him with Kobe, lebron, wade, etc
awesome video. Thanks for posting along with the other two... I dont see how (4) dumbies can NOT like this video. They must be fans of some other team that Jordan, Pippen and the Bulls torched. ANY TEAM, COACH, TEAMMATE, FAN would love (would have loved) to have Scottie "the true beast" Pippen on their side!!!
everything lebron james does now in the court, scotie pippen did it before.Michael jordan need pippen and pippen need jordan. the best combination of excellence, and dedication ever.
The ability of Scottie p , all around Basketball player He can do all kinds of things that most Basketballs players can’t do , he should be nominated for MVP as One
You do realize a high defensive rating is bad right? A D-rating of 107 sucks. 104 is near average. 102 and below is great. Pippen didnt become the great defender he was until Jordan retired. He hit the weights and bulked up so he could guard bigger players and be more versatile. Without Jordan in 1994 and 1995, his D-ratings were 97 and 98 which is beyond excellent for a perimeter player. He impacted his team's defense like a center and lead a crap Bulls frontline to the 2nd best defense in 95.
Actually, Jordan was already the best perimeter defender before Pippen arrived. He had a defensive rating of 107, 107, 104, and 101 from 1985 to 1988. Jordan won Defensive Player of the Year in 1988 where averaged a ridiculous 3.2 steals per game and 1.6 blocks per game, with a defensive win share of 6.1. In 1988, Pippen didn't even start, had a 103 defensive rating, and 2.6 defensive win shares, and was only averaging 1.2 spg, and 0.7 bpg. I think Pippen learned great defense from Jordan.
Are u serious I agree with not as good as Bird but he's definitely better than Lebron and Kevin Durant. The simple fact of how much better of a defender he is to me puts him above those two. He's as every bit of a play maker as Lebron and can compare to Bird as a rebounder. You forget if Pippen was the main guy his numbers would have been a lot better and he would have had an even better skill set. People seriously underrate how good Pippen was because he never was the guy of the team
You both are correct in some aspects. Jordan was the best defender before Scottie Pippen and Scottie Pippen learned things from Jordan. But, you shouldn't disgrace and disrespect a hall of famer like that. Scottie Pippen already was a great defender coming in and worked himself to improve his shot and other things. If he was the main guy on another team he probably would have became just as good as Jordan. You can't teach a player to have great vision and basketball IQ.
“Sometimes a player's greatest challenge is coming to grips with his role on the team.” ― Scottie Pippen Scottie Pippen to me is atleast top 5 of all time if not #3, because I feel if he would have been the batman he could have developed his offense to near Jordan level and lead his own team to a championship. I, also, believe that he could have lead the second three peat team to one or two championship without Jordan. Also, he is the greatest defender of all time
@OneGloriousBastard Thank you!!! At least somebody knows that one star player isn't going to win a championship by himself. I get sick of that dumbass double-standard that Pippen didn't win the title without Jordan. No shit lol. It took Jordan and Pippen together to take down the Knicks and win a title so why should Pippen suddenly have to win a title on his own when Jordan NEVER did? He always had Pippen by his side.
@skywalk3x Pippen had a championship winning team when Jordan retired? How? lol. Jordan and Pippen were the engine to those titles. You take either one of them away and those championships stop. You don't replace Jordan with some journeyman scrub in Pete Myers and talk championship. That's just stupid. Did you happen to watch the '93 ECF against the Knicks? Jordan wasn't beating that team by himself. Pippen stepped up time and time again when Jordan couldn't throw it in the ocean.
It's ok to like both players but to say that Scottie is better is just dumb. What is just as dumb is saying that Jordan never won without Scottie. What should be said is that when Jordan left and Scottie had a championship winning team all to himself he got knocked off by the Knicks. Also he refused to come in the game because he was'nt getting the last shot...and they won without him. When Jordan returned for a full season guess what?? they won a championship and two more. Heart and will Jordan
With MJ you wouldn't get an off night. If it happened it was as rare as snow in a desert. To be the one that everyone is counting on every night is a lot of pressure but MJ lived for that challenge. Pippen didn't have the burden of expectation on his shoulders for most of his Bulls years. When MJ retired Pip was given the mantle as the franchise player and showed everyone how great he was outside of the shadow of MJ. He was on MVP form in the 1993/94 season and I believe he should have won it.
The simple fact is that Jordan overshadowed so many great players in his era. Pippen became a better player because of Jordan. The practice sessions were said to be so intense that Jordan would have it out with his team mates if they didn't come hard. After Pip got bullied by the Pistons in the 1990 ECF he grew up and came back a new player. He still wasn't an all star in the 91 championship season, but his game became more consistent. Pip was a major part of the Bulls 6 championships.
Pippen failed to capture a ring without Jordan, but he eventually would have even if Jordan never came back. He is touted as one of the best forwards to play the game, but if you ask me he is still not talked about enough. And I just realized that Jordan never properly gives Pippen credit for being an outstanding teammate. Jordan maybe the GOAT, but man... he is arrogant and selfish.
@xiong7267 Durant is still very skinny and lanky. He doesn't look all that coordinated or smooth with the ball. He's very good at moving without the ball and a very good shooter but I really don't see any similarities to Pippen in style. Durant is lucky to be playing in a very soft era of the NBA where the no-touch rules give him a pass for not hitting the weights. Back in the 80's and 90's where more contact was allowed rough-house teams would have feasted on Durant.
I hate how media promote Jordan all the time. Here is a guy who has it all and yet selflessly doing anything on the floor that could help his team win game, championships and dominate a good decade. Pippen defend anything that walks, doesn't matter if the player was a PF, a centre or a guard. He puts huge pressure on oppsition No.1 so Jordan can roam around for a steal and how many times we saw Bulls kill other teams in transition game. Stats along cannot describe even 10% of Pippen's input

In all Lebron's highlights...when he dunks, notice how he is all by himself. No defense whatsoever. It's only him and the rim, and yeah it's very "athletic" (buzz word) how he does it, but in reality, it's nothing spectacular due to the fact that he's all alone! Back then, in the highlights, we saw players doing 2 things: getting past defenders, and then dunking! Nowadays, players only dunk, because they got virtually no defense in their way! I think the NBA today is almost always boring to watc
Nice! i like you taped all the games i could back in my teens but sadly for some stupid reason gave away most of the tapes a year or so ago. Should of converted them before doing that. Although seeing some of the recent torrents for nba 90's games, the quality is quite bad considering. Still brings back memories though. You should consider converting them if they arnt already and uploading them as torrents?
Do u play NBA 2K9 on PS3? I hooked up an amazing version of Scottie Pippen, that plays just like him, if you go to Top Downloads and get 2K10 ROSTER W/ 96 BULLS or 2K11 HEAT VS. 96 BULLS. His shooting style, aggressiveness to the basket, Dunk styles, everything, I made the attributes so life-like, u'd think u were actually playing as Scottie Pippen!! I even gave him new shoes!! Check them out, & tell me what you think.
If Richard Jefferson was half as good as Pippen I wouldn't be so bummed about Tony Parker getting injured tonight. Scottie was one of a kind. I don't see a player like him in today's NBA and only Tim Duncan can say his bank shot was just as automatic. Kick ass job AJ. Some of those clips were timed so good it was almost like Pippen was dancing to the music LOL. He had some killer footwork.
I was with you til you said lebron is over-rated lol lol. Lebron is built like karl malone but with a guards game. Who else comes straight outta high school and leads their team in scoring? Not to mention he has insane court vision. To me he's like MJ if MJ was a better passer. But yeah, Pippen is the truth and in his prime could should half these current players down.
Scottie wouldn't can't lead a team... just look at mj baseball seasons...he was good by himself but he wouldn't and couldn't lead a team to the finals or average 30..he lost to Reggie miller...I respect Scottie for checking magic but...who else did he guard that are better than rose. Kobe, kd, pierce or melo
cont. The biggest benefit was just playing with each other to win championships. You make it sound like Jordan made Pippen's career, which is very disrespectful Pippen had the skill, athleticism, IQ, work ethic, and humility to have became a Hall of Famer regardless of which team he was on. Pippen needed Jordan to win some rings and Jordan needed Pippen to win ringss
I have not seen a guy since Pippen use the backboard like he did. I also stand firm on my belief that Pippen was the only person who could have stood a chance at defensively stopping Michael Jordan. If you weren't around to see the Bulls Dynasty in the 90's, I feel sorry for you because you missed an incredible era of basketball.
@BarstoolBlues33 I agree sir that's why i think Pippen's numbers would be like this 27/7/7 with 3 steals and 1 block per game. Jordan would average 40/8/6 in today's NBA. Both made the greatest duo of all time. They don't make them like Pippen anymore. Most complete player of all time and to me one of the most underrated.
@arichanpin Lebron lacks a lot of technique and basketball basics...his basketball knowledge and skills aren't very developed (relatively speaking)...he's just very muscular and can dunk...and even when he dunks, he got no real defense in his way, so IMO, no merit. I still like the guy's personality though.
the most crisp player out of precision moves the game has ever seen...whoever said, lebron take notice....i was thinking the same thing watching this...lebron is a not crisp non precision player...nowhere near scottie....maybe he will figure out a way to be a highlight video one day....,for whatever its worth, pippen had it all figured out
The most underrated player in the NBA. I hooked him up in NBA 2K9, I made him more explosive, & matched his dunk style, shooting, agressiveness to the basket, defense, arm band placement perfect!! Look for 2K10 Roster w/ 96 Bulls ENHANCED, then feel free to add me on PSN & tell me what ya think!! GALVATRON1_NYC is my PSN Screen name.
It must be great to have large hands lol. 0:35 you can see the influence of Dr. J on Scottie when he drives. The long strides, palming the ball like it's nothing, and swooping the ball around with a graceful finish. 1:13 another great example. How many guys can just pick the dribble off the floor with one hand and dunk over D-Rob? lol.
Personally i dont see this handles that set him apart from Bird, lebron, Kevin.....I think Kevin durant has the best handles out of all four...were not bashing scottie but he's not better than Lebron or Bird....he's better than Durant for now..and thats only because he's not in his prime yet
@bolder2009 He should have won the MVP and he should have won 1-2 Defensive player of the year awards. Pippen to me was Lebron James before Lebron James, no Pippen was better than Lebron. Athleticism Lebron James, but skill and Basketball IQ go to Scottie Pippen.
@xiong7267 I don't see Scottie Pippen in Durant at all. Durant is a good shooter but he's one dimensional. He can't slash and finish like Pippen. He can't post up like Pip. He can't pass or defend like Pippen. I don't see any player like Pippen in the league today.
Scottie pippen the 3rd and about to be fourth best SF of all time. Larry, Lebron, Scottie...and dont forget Durant...Im just gonna throw it out their when Durant turns 30 he's gonna be better than Scottie....even tho Scottie is my favorite player
you know what i noticed thats kinda funny no disrespect to mj and his fans pippen without jordan would have shone more and mj without pippen would have probably shone less, i think its undoubtable without each other they would have both won a lot less rings
I saw Pip In Paris In 1991 at Bercy with Barkley and hé was so quick and complète ...it was an exhibition game but but i had this chance to see my Idol for real and hé was physicaly over every player...33 for ever..thanks for these videos
