Saw Alex Duthart as a youth in Bloemfontein South Africa - a legend and someone my Dad looked up to, both are drumming in the sky right now......a beautiful sound !
Dude Alex Duthart was one of, if not THE best drummer in history... mans a god in the drum world... He is literally the godfather of what we know as pipe band drumming today, and DIED on parade... Heart Attack doing what he loved... and Im a piper and Im saying this... although were more musical, i feel drummers are far more rythmic...
Theres drummers onlyBUT it Stops there. They are drummers who just play rudimental musical structures that sound nice but dont fit the melody in the tune.SURPRISING THEY HAVE ALL THE MUSIC EXAMS.OH YES.ITS SAD IN HOW MANY AJUDICATORS WITH ALL THEIR MUSIC EXAMS DONT NOTICE IT IF the drum setting doesnt fit the pipes how can anyone say there more musical ???? If there not playing to the pipes how are they more musical???Most today are playing near the tune but its really around the tune its not tight with it.I have to tell the way i feel about Alec Duthart had to have more musical feeling than the present day by a hemosphere theres nobody what ive seen near it.Alecs scores fitted the pipes.100%Sure.Comprehend Shotts was playing to the tune and i must say so was Reid Maxwell was the 2 who was the tightest to the pipes ALL THE WAY THROUGH.
