Och aye, the days of yore... As a german piper of 40+ years and reenacting the 79th (and tryin' to join the QOHlds in the late 90'ies), I do remember, when serving in the 1st Btn Panzeraufklärer Bundeswehr ((Black Brunswick Hussars, Peninsula Sicily & Waterloo proudly at the Barrack gates!)) how we were not permitted to grow moustaches during active service, after the furlough half the company (including subalterns!) returned with a nice growth of hair on the upper lips... 😂
I was in black watch so my dad when he joined ww11 he was in barracks Perth before they go out on friday night had an inspection bye the rsm with a mirror on a pole to see if they were wearing any thing under neath
Oh, as an aftertought, piper: Privileged Individual Per Educatiounal Rights... the cultural backbone of the highland culture, IF properly instructed in the history of clan history and lore! Sorry to say, but I have met with a lot of bagpipe "players" who had not the foggiest inkling what tunes they were playing or the background story of it... When I was taught, there would have been 2 hours of instruction and (at the least) 2 hours of storytelling...
