By the end of the video the $125 Scott's garden tractor is looking almost like new, especially for being over 20 years old! I've been trying to keep this one as cheap as possible, the plan is to keep this tractor along with the 2006 John Deere 145. I use a few parts from the second Scotts (S2348) such as the blades, a battery hold down, headlight harness, etc to get this one as close to perfect without spending any additional money. I've only had to spend money on some inner tubes, a battery, and some motor oil so far. The parts tractor was $60 but the plan is to get that one running as well and selling it for maybe $300-400. If I do need any new parts for that one, I will probably swap out the new part for the S2048 that I am keeping and put the used parts on the one I am selling.

I have never seen anybody wet sand and polish a riding mower, but being the car detailing appreciator that I am, I had to watch it. Nice work. That thing looked really nice in the end!

I had one given to me 2 years ago. It had been in a field for several years. Had a lot of paint overspray on it, broken grill, cracked hood, flat tires, messed up seat, and dirty carb. Got it running well and have mowed with it ever since. I really like the power and the foot operated trans. Only previous problems have been the carb which I cleaned twice, the fuel pump which I replaced twice, and the fuel pickup line you mentioned. BTW thanks for the tip on removing the fenders. One problem I had in April was a bent pushrod, right intake. Happened again this week. My son thinks it was run too hot at some point which damaged the right intake valve. I think the lifter may be the culprit. My solution is to just order 4 new pushrods and install a new one when it bends one (: My latest prob is the brake interlock, the switch activated when you depress the brake pedal. It got so it would die when I released the brake pedal. I clamped the switch in the down position so now it starts and stays running but dies when I activate the deck clutch. I need to find a wiring diagram or maybe just directly wire the deck clutch to the switch. So many interlocks on this thing, like having to pull the deck switch into the up position when going into reverse. Even having to depress the brake pedal to start it - its a HYDRO! No danger of inadvertent movement.

@@sweatequity4252 So I’d grab some 400 grit, 800 grit and 1000 grit sandpaper. Wet sand and then hit it with some polishing wax. Should I tape up the emblems?

Not sure if you are parting out either of them or anything but I’d be interested in buying a grill assembly if ya do.

@@sweatequity4252 no worries. I just got a 2554 and the grill is junk on it. Gotta figure out why the throttle sticks wide open after it’s running.

I get someone to hold one side while I hold the other. It has to be lined up just right to get the pins in the holes.
