The deal forcing the Sackler family to pay out billions of dollars to states and individuals for the family's role in the opioid epidemic is now on hold, following a significant ruling by the US Supreme Court on Thursday.
The justices, in a 5-4 decision, ruled the settlement deal providing some six to 10 billion dollars to those impacted by the opioid epidemic isn’t legal since it shielded the Sacklers from future civil liability.
