I’d really like to see this stat scrutinized heavily. How many times did this happen to teams (they were behind in 4th) and specifically what were the odds before the game. Like are you coming back against opponents you should have been beating.
Great stuff Matt. A few things I've come to believe being a life long steeler fan (from Pittsburgh). 1. People just hate Tomlin. I wont speculate why. 2. Steeler fans believe every super bowl belongs to us like there arent 31 other teams. 3. Steeler fans believe Ben is Jesus reincarnated and the sole reason the team had any success during his career.
I’m with you Matt. The weird win loss stats make sense and apply generally across the league. Somehow, year after year, the Steelers beat the odds. I was told once that as a quick bet at game halftime, bet on the team in the lead. You have way better odds of winning. Except with the Steelers. If I placed that bet, I swear its like Tomlin is just going to have a “hold my beer” moment.
Welcome back i also took the family on vacation so i missed your last few episodes but glad to be back and taking football its the only way I stay sane during the off season 😅
Even Kenny had 7 game winning drives and 6 4th quarter comebacks in the past 2 seasons in 26 games. Thats a pretty high rate compared to the rest of the league and he wasnt a great QB for us. Its Tomlins game plan every week to play conservatively on offense and wear out opposing defenses with the run game and relying on our defense to make splash plays and set us up in favorable field position. Special teams has been poor as of the past few years so I would say that if that improves under the new rules the team could be much better than everyone expects, which is probably an 11-12 win team. Obviously QB is the biggest variable but Russ has been pretty consistent statistically over the past few years even if hes taken a lot of heat for not playing like the superstar he used to be. He likely wont return to that level but he can be 80% of that and still get you a playoff win or 2 with the team around him.
Tomlin is a great coach. I don’t understand the fans that can’t see it. Bottom line is you need a top 5 or 6 QB now to be successful in the playoffs especially with guys like Brady and Mahomes that are truly dominant. A great QB will be the difference now. Keep the great coach we have now because that is probably the 2nd most important factor.
The playoff discussion, especially making the playoffs the last two years should also be met with - the NFL changed a rule, and allowed two more teams in the playoffs. Without this rule change - Steelers aren’t a “7 seed.” Context to stats are necessary.
What do the 4Q comeback stats look like on a percentage basis? You never comeback if you’re never trailing going in. I’d think the Steelers have been behind more often than others over the last 4 years.
These are not positive stats, they are exactly what we have already known; strong defense, some luck and terrible offense. Dont sugar coat what has been a terrible team to watch for 20 years.
I think the better stat would be for entering the 4th quarter losing would be the win percentage in that situation. That compared to other teams would be a good stat. It would show the chances Steelers go into and come out on top when losing in the 3rd.
he has a well over .600 win percentage as a head coach including over .500 with one of the worst qb rooms in recent times. Matt just highlighted more reasons why tomlin is a great coach with hard statistics. Sorry this hurt your feelings.
Lmao your nuts , just because they haven't got the wr everyone wants they say it's bad . They have had a good off-season and pundits have agreed for most part
