This is a prime example of why the SCP Foundation tries to contain anomalies instead of destroy them.

What’s so strange is that literally killing an aging couple and demolishing their home behind the back of the SCP foundation got him demoted to Junior Researcher, but for everyone else so much as looking at a senior researcher wrong is enough to become D-Class.

I find it funny that the guy killed Mary’s parents instead of trying to get them to pick Mary up themselves first.

I was curious to see just how much it might cost for the foundation to keep picking up Mary as per the original containment procedure. The highest average national oil price in the 1970s was in 1979, at about $0.86 per gallon. Adjusted for inflation to 2021, that's $5.97 per gallon, but we'll round up to $6. For the sake of argument, let's say the Foundation vehicles used to patrol the road had fuel tanks with a capacity of 20 Gallons. The cost to fill the tank completely in 1979 would be $120. The length of Mayflower Rd. isn't really specified, but in this instance let's say 30 Miles. Also, I'm assuming a number of at least 5 vehicles deployed at a time. With the road being 30 Miles in length, and only being driven every hour for 24 hours, the number of miles traveled comes to about 720 Miles total. Even if the cars only got 10 Miles per gallon, not uncommon to cars of the 1970s, each vehicle would only expend 72 Gallons of fuel. Each vehicle would need to be filled 3.6 times, but again, let's round up to 4 for simplicity's sake. To fill one car to drive a distance of 30 Miles back and forth for 24 hours, assuming an average 10 MPG, it would cost the Foundation, when adjusted for inflation, comes to $480. That means the cost to fuel all five cars and have them running would be $2,400 dollars. $2,400 on the 19th of every month, coming to $28,800 annually. Bear in mind this number doesn't include taxes, but I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that the foundation has some sort of tax exemption. Even if it doesn't, even if it tacked an extra $10,000 on to the price tag, the cost is exceptionally low in terms of SCP containment procedures. What's the significance of this, why did I spend twenty minutes looking up the average prices of gas, calculating inflation, and typing this up? The main point is to highlight just how petty Dr. Lawson is, and why he deserved what he got in the end... Even using the highest gas price of the 1970s, not even the one in 1972 as is stated in the video ($0.36 for those curious), the cost of keeping SCP-1337 safely contained was a virtual drop in the bucket compared to some of the Foundation's other expenses. Bear in mind, I worked this all out at 4AM on less than 5 hours sleep, so there's a good chance that I completely messed up the math somewhere. I doubt anyone is going to even read this seeing as this is a RU-vid comment section, but hey, I hope you found it interesting if you did!

They could have just reburied Mary's body in her parent's garden and then gave the parents anesthesia or something. Or as another commenter proposed: To make her parents drive the car. Instead of foundation members. So she could get a chance to meet them.

This reminds me a lot of scp-1609! That is a chair that teleports to people who need to sit down. One of the Foundation's rival organizations had tossed it into a woodchipper, turning it from a friendly teleporting chair into an angry pile of mulch capable of teleporting into people's lungs. Its a popular example of why the foundation's policy is contain anomalies instead of destroying them

I read about a very similar sounding story in a book about ghosts. In the story, a boy went dancing with a girl. The boy brought the girl home and the girl borrowed his jacket. When the boy went back to the girl’s house for his jacket, he learned that the girl was dead for a while. The boy then went to the girl’s grave where he found his jacket.

When I heard the guy was gonna stop the anomaly from reappearing, I thought he was just gonna not stop at the graveyard and take her to her house against her will. There's so much you can do here tbh, you can take a diffrent route and avoid the graveyard, make her parents drive the car or make wait at the graveyard, you can do litterally anything here and somehow the researcher chose the worst possible option.

My theory is that Lawson was actually part of the GOC, undercover as an SCP researcher who was tasked with destroying 1337 and make it from Safe to Neutralized. But instead he made her from Safe to Euclid
