It also matches up with the original 7th bride's children. All of the 231-1 to -7 individuals are proxys to the original Seven Brides of the Scarlet King, old goddesses he fathered, controlled and r*ped. The only one of them who wasn't totally broken by him was the 7th, who, differently from her sisters, gave birth to heroes who tried to oppose the Scarlet King. Thus SCP 999 is also a "destined hero", and may be the one to bring down his abomination of a father for good

all this time, I believed that montauk would be about some kind of mutilation, various torture methods to specifically give to the pregnant woman, making her truly regret being in the situation she is in, Now that the reveal dropped onto me I'm just staring in disbelief at how much it makes sense. Fooling the scarlet king like that is absolutely genius. I can see why Montauk went insane cause of it.

I like to think he was the kind of guy that got really bad luck, was probably the only suspect even if he didn’t do it, really bad defendor on court, got on problems on jail, once again it’s easy if you can point fingers to someone else, and ultimately things escalated and he got the death sentence. And yeah, the fundaron is cold but not cruel.

Yeah all hope is gone 😅. As a species were fundamentally f***ed. The things needed to better us as a species are out of reach through the powers that be, not to be cryptic but on another note rest assure there are things they hide from the world that you can say are scps-ish. I got a free one for you, the wreckage from Roswell New Mexico was sent to Ohio. Roswell has always just been a place they test aircraft and…. Kind of the reason they call NC area the home of flight but out in beaver creek Ohio area there is the home of aviation or something. Basically the wreckage was taken to Ohio and put in a bunker and over time they built, built, and built some more and now you have Wright pat Air Force base. You need secret clearance though 😅

For those absolutely missing the point of OP's comment lol let me explain: he's implying that people are eager to accept that it's a trick to make people fear the procedure and give it power, as opposed to people stubbornly sticking to the fact that if it isn't a trick to contain, it implies the rape of a unconscious pregnant woman, murdering babies, ect. (What the original procedure in detail implied, this telling is the theory that it doesn't and is just reading a story. One I personally defo prefer) Which I mean, I can see the hope in people not being eager about Montauk being more than a trick to inspire fear for containment.

Tbh, when I heard about the entire "revenge" by Dr. montauk over children I was pretty much "yeah Montauk isn't the type of person to do it on the girls." The ages of these girls was around 1 digit to 2 digits, if anything, dr. montauk probably wanted them to live.

It's a recurring theme with The Scarlet King. The power level it has is so immense that dealing with it directly is a path to armageddon. So, deception and misdirection work better, it has IRL backing, police, military intelligence and business owners all use such tactics to keep someone weak, by making them think they are too powerful to take on, that they can strike whenever they want or that they don't need to be cautious. They have already "won", they "don't" need to work for it anymore. Stroke that ego correctly, they will never realise they became complacent.

So the mass perception that she was being induced severe levels of pain was the true goal of the Montok procedure. That was a clever move. Great job on this stories ending. As the wise old saying goes: “Perception is reality!” And the amnestics used on the staff help spread the lie which weakens the Scarlet King’s return.

I feel like this is a major ret-con after the original website backtracked on its original story. Something about the SCP foundation has always required them to be distasteful in the name of the greater good. That being said…it’s an absolutely clever way to answer the burning question, and I love it. I do in fact feel like this is…the only way the question could truly be given a straight answer. And…it surprisingly does nothing to diminish the anti-hero nature of the foundation. Excellent work.

Keep in mind there’s no established canon for the SCP universe and plenty of AUs. So while in this timeline 110-Montauk is just a bedtime story, in others it is something else…

Dear Wage Robot. Well, the SCP Foundation didn't realize at the time, that the only way to prevent birth was to spread the belief of something horrible and atrociously being done to the girls. SCP-231-1 till SCP-231-6 died exactly described in the SCP-231. Quote from the Tale 'Fear Alone' "Early on in containment of the 231 subjects we did terrible things to those poor girls. Not as terrible as that, but we were being advised only by a handful of occultists we had been able to capture and extract information from. That was what they had done to contain the demon, and because of that, it's what we had to do. I was not on the project then, and understandably many of those doctors- most of them, in fact, are no longer with us, as are 231-1 through -6. It was because of our failings that they perished, and it was because of their deaths that we realized that we had to do something different." Probably couldn't find it again if I tried but somewhere on the scp wiki is a story where good old Dr Jack bright was telling Dr gears that scp-053 was the thing they found at the bottom of the "endless" staircase and that the O5 had it severely covered up because she's so dangerous.

I think it’s probably because the original writer of 110-Montauk was a creepy incel that got into the scp archive in the early enough days that moderation wasn’t as strict and it needed a makeover that was made by someone not as skeevy.

The entire brides for the scarlet king arc is fucking gross. Although it seems appropriate for horror-adjacent content and I wouldn't wish it to be retconned, you can kinda tell it was written by nasty people. I'm still glad someone took it upon themselves to fix this particularly atrocious part of the story. Edit; I also just realized that this procedure tracks just fine with another god containment canon. Deities don’t think because they’ve never had to, so warping their perceived reality works as containment. (Deer God SCP)

Think about it, much like how scp-999, probably the most wholesome and adorable scp (which, let’s be honest, the bar is remarkably low for that), came from the scarlet king, one of the most evil scp’s we know of (if there’s a tier list ranking the most evil scp’s, he’s b tier at lowest), procedure 110 montauk, which everybody thinks is the most vile procedure the foundation has, turns out to be the only nice procedure I know of, (if there’s any other procedures used to contain scp’s that are actually nice, you’d be hard pressed to find one). And considering the 7th bride is what gave birth to scp-999, and scp-999 is meant to one day overpower the scarlet king with wholesomeness and hugs, it all comes full circle and puts a nice bow on the mystery. Very well written.

The cultists said that if the seventh bride gave birth, the world would end, but that was a lie, and was what the cultist's wanted the foundation to think. The seventh child was scp 999, is a mighty hero that's supposed to be the personification of joy, and the being that would beat the scarlet king.

i really like this version a lot. for years even before i got into the SCP fandom i knew of the montauk story and the cruelty that played out. i could understand a procedure in the scp world but i hated the story. violence against women is so prevalent in horror no doubt but some stories really just love to use it as shock value. to know that the story was updated and recontextualized makes me happy

We correctly thought this was the nature of Procedure-110 Montauk with the belief that the reason we haven’t heard it on a mega level is that the author couldn’t ever think of something that horrible. After all… how do we make public a plot point so horrible that if we heard about it we’d either be listening to an insane person or go insane ourselves, if not both. But it turns out that that was all according to plan… and the scary thing in the dark wasn’t nearly as horrible as even the dark itself. It was just a fluffy pillow and something along the lines of parenting.

Man, when this first came out, it definitely read like some p*do's horrific fantasy disguised as a SCP. really glad people edited it to being what it is now. There was a time when I thought SCP was going to go down a route guided by the worst 4chan had to offer, and enabled, and now SCP 231-7 is a nice example of how the foundation community has changed over the years.

@@hansalanson3497 It was heavily, heavily implied that an 8 yo girl was being r worded and tortured every day by violent D class. They went into great detail too about testing to find out how they used amnestics to keep the trauma it caused her as fresh and damaging as possible. I hated it and didnt come back to reading SCP for a long time after that.

The thing that still makes Montauk monstrous is that until bride #7 he still committed every possible, conceivable atrocity against the other brides which led to them all dying and horrible monstrosities being birthed. He brutally tortured and slaughtered 6 children before realizing "Wait. The Scarlet King only knows suffering. What if we just... Stop being the same way?"

never expected to see this entry covered on 'SCP Explained'. the original tale of SCP-231 - 1-7 and Procedure 110-Montauk was extremely gruesome. according to many folk in this comment section, however, it appears that the story depicted in the video here is a sort of "alternate narrative". vile as the first iteration of the story may have been, it was, in a sense, symbolic of what the SCP universe and mythos really were. one facet of it, at least. an interesting take on the story nevertheless.

You guys should do the 447-2 and 914 experiment logs. Both are absolutely hilarious. Also, have you guys ever considered doing character logs of the various Foundation Staff. I know you guys already did Dr. Bright, so it would be cool to other characters explained. Day 96 of asking the O5 Council to use SCP-1968 to create a universe in which 682 doesn't exist.

With this been told now I believe at that time they weren't reading stories to them at first after listening to what the two Dr's were talking about at the end was that "there was no need to put SCP 213-7 threw any suffering she already been threw the worst of it" in my understanding that at some point they did have a procedure they were doing to them up until SCP 213-6 was killed after the rouge agent tried to set her free so after all of that the procedure was changed again and now they are like "the Scarlet King isn't watching over everything so why not just be nice to her and say that we're not doing this evil deed to her that they probably were doing with the rest of them, it's not like he would know" idk that's just my take on it u know lol but it would explain why and how the others died and with them been so nice to her changed the entity being born into the scp-999 I mean come on I gotta be close right??? 🤔🤔🤔

...except the Death Note says "The *human* whose name is written in this note shall die". SCP-682 is no human. Also, even if it turned out that the Death Note works on non-humans, SCP-682 would probably just revive. It came back from literal existence erasure (SCP-3930).

SCP-231 on its own is the same kind of basic “haha CSA is so cool and edgy bro” crap that I could find in any 12-year-old’s creepypasta- note that 231-7 is an EIGHT-YEAR-OLD (and the IRL Admin Clef’s strange fixation with sexualized underage girls in his SCPs makes it worse). But the Fear Alone story, while not _strictly canon_ (everything about the SCP Foundation is ultimately up to individual interpretation), makes it a much more complex and frankly mature story overall, it humanizes the Foundation and its staff a great deal, it’s still _very_ tense, and for those reasons and many others, it’s one of my favorite SCP Tales and I’m very glad it exists. Thank you, DJKaktus.
