As a native of Lanarkshire that brings back lots of memories. I am old enough to remember the Class 120s starting service on the Queen Street-Edinburgh route in the late 1950s. In the 1980s around the time of this film I travelled to work on the East Kilbride line and occasionally a decanted Class 126 would turn up. They were actually very comfortable but totally clapped out and sometimes struggled to climb the bank between Thornliebank and Giffnock.

Great footage. I think electric loco's and units have just as much character as diesels but just in a different way. I used to go spotting at Carstairs Junction in the 80s and I loved the whine and roar of the electrics. I also loved the overhead catenary and wires on the approaches to Glasgow Central. I miss the 81s - 85s and I don't really like the Pendolinos.

Great film! First location is not IBM it Dunrod Loop about a mile to the west The only passing plaqce on the Wemyss Bay branch. Loved the old 303's Sorely missed and replaced by the truly awful 314's thankfully now on the way out!

It's amazing how desolate Falkland Yard / Newton-on-Ayr is these days compared to 3:25. Frankly, it's rare to see a freight train nowadays.

In reply to one comment - what's wrong with third rail ? , well for a start it needs more booster stations as 750 volts doesn't travel very far, prone to problems with ice in winter and is easy to step on by accident .

@willygrant1971 well, your entitled to your own oppinion, 73s on a 3rd rail are boring but when they are using that diesel engine they are supberb!

@willygrant1971 im sorry? the electric wires look nasty?! they look great and telling me a class 86 dosent have charecter?! erm hello thats like telling me i could build my house out of plutonium and live there - 86s, 87s, 91s, they all have charecter its only the modern stuff that dosent like the godawful pendolinos
