13:49 - Finally! Chuck was able to give away some money.

Chuck hit the BERSERK button after both Marilyn and Brian solved words which they left money tiles behind. The audience knew it too.

The Bonus Sprint was really brutal today

The first clue was a trap cause it was between prey or pray. Second clue was even harder than the first.

Always a good prize this time around for the sweepstakes. Though the stand mixer is nice, this is a more open option.

Tough bonus. Might be doable with the right letter....

I had STORIES for the last one. That second one was a killer.

Slow the video down to 0.25x ( @21:45 ) and you shall see the second Sprint is indeed a buzzerbeater by about 1/20th of a second. He hits the plunger a millisecond before you see triple zero, though the sound effect of the plunger hit is very very slightly delayed, so if they're going on audio cues, the buzzer beat the plunger fx, but visually, he hits the plunger a razor-thin hair before the buzzer. Certainly worthy of a review; I'm surprised they just certified it there on the spot. (Unless, perhaps they did later and brought him back on a later episode? (which seems to have been quite common)) 🙃

You can make contact with the button of the plunger, but presumably the mechanics that make that “thump” are what electronically stop the clock, so I would make the assumption he didn’t activate that in time.

@@thechadmosher It was awfully close .. though it is interesting that (at least thus far in the entirety of your uploads) we've seen some razor-thin calls but they never ever have a "check the tape during commercial" moment like we've seen several times on similarly-close Pyramid WCs. (It is possible that they do review after the show is over and simply invite mis-ruled contestants back again, which we have seen) but, it was always neat to see how above and beyond Dick Clark wanted to go to prove Pyramid was fair. Having said all that, Scrabble almost always runs out of time (as evidenced by going to Speedword after only two or three puzzles in the 2nd half of the show 🙃) so that might also be why. But for times like this, it would have been cool for Chuck to at least give the optics that they were going to look at the tape. In the end, though you may be right, The Chad, if I were that contestant, I'd question whether they really knew 100% sure if I got it under the buzzer or not... 😉

@@lobstertexas I think it boils down to my point earlier. Time calls are electronically calculated on Scrabble via buzzer press, not requiring a “check and see”, something which I’m sure the rules contestants sign would have indicated, whereas it’s verbal response vs. audio cue on Pyramid.

@@thechadmosher Righto, but remember, there are TWO timers in this game, one electronic in the Sprint, and one arbitrary which is the imaginary timer of immediately solving after hitting the buzzer/plunger in both main game and both Sprints. And for those in particular, with no visible clock, there are definitely close calls that are "check the tape"-worthy. Watching your daily dispatches for months now, they are a bit all over the place in the arbitrary amount of millilseconds that tick by after the hit as to when THAT buzzer sounds (sometimes it's literally immediate, sometimes they've had a 2+ second leeway) .. your upload today (12/12/2023) has the perfect example of this at the very end of the Bonus Sprint (though, fortunately, it went the way of the contestant) 🙃

I know there's only so many words in the English language between 5 and 9 letters, but wasn't that first word just on the show a few months ago in a sprint? And didn't the player mess up and say the version most of us are more likely to hear in this country?
