During our trip ‘once around Australia’ we will create highlight videos about the places we liked the most.
This video is about Mount Beerwah (QLD), which is one of the Glass House Mountains. It is located in Southern Queensland, West of the Sunshine Coast and is a must see, if you are into scrambling!
Once you get to the carpark, there is a normal hiking path leading to the rock slab. From this point you have to start scrambling up the rocks. The first few meters are quite steep, but there are foot holes you can use (a bit more complicated on the way down, since you can't see them easily). Just keep scrambling up. At one point there is a dirt track on the right side, which we call the cheat way. You can hike up there and hold yourself on the trees. At the wall you turn right and follow the track up to the summit, with some minor scrambling involved. When you get to the summit, there is a stunning 360-degree view you don't wanna miss out on!
On the way down, if you're scared of the steep part, you can take another cheat way. When going down, it"s to your right hand side, in between trees.
We hope you enjoy the video and follow our trip as well as our next highlight videos!
PS: We included this video in our blog post at jpadventures19.com, where you can read all about our adventures, travelling through Australia, as well as photos and videos.

@@PatandJeleThe first part scared the hell out of me, but once I had some good foot holds further up I was ok. I was thinking of bailing a couple of times, just cos I'm not great with unsecured heights, but I'm glad I pushed on. I had a mate there helping me get past the sketchy stuff.

A family friend of ours died last month while descending this route. She fell 40m. She was experienced. In Austria such precarious routes typically have a safety system. I believe it’s a dereliction of the NP not to provide at least fixed handholds or a cable.

Sorry to hear that! It still is a super rare incident and a lot of people are climbing the Glasshouse Mountains every day. No matter the experience, you have to be carefull and fully switched on at all times! 2021 someone died on Mount Ngungun and this mountain has a modern walking path, that some people run up and down for exercises. Sadly, those things happen....

@@PatandJele I agree about experience and always needing to be switched on. This should be emphasised. That was my only point in posting. BTW Mountain climber Joe Simpson (look him up) says whenever you think you’re in total control, that’s a warning. Nature sometimes has other ideas. In only takes a momentary lapse-or less.
