I love this little truck, especially with the 5-speed. That body looks in great shape and if that is a 300-6 which I suspect it is, those engines are damn near bulletproof. I hope this finds a good home. This is another truck I'd love to buy if I were closer, I bet there is a lot of life left in it.
One of the last generations of the Ford F100, before they phased out completely in 1983. She's a keeper Jay, although the radio is ugly AF and sticks out like a sore thumb
It just needs head gasket new Dashboard new carpet new seats, a little bit of paint and maybe retrofit aircondition...just not worth it for a straigth six slow snail gas hungry truck? It is valuable only if you have another rusted truck with lots of features
I'm impressed that a lot of trucks that end up in this yard have very little truck rust on them, here in B.C. Canada trucks barley a decade old and the wheels wells and rocker panels usually start to go. really cool old "ord" trucks there....
THAT is a truck that has character. A bare bones vehicle with no options, and very inexpensive to repair if repairs are needed. By the condition of the body, that truck is worth saving for the right person.
*Bullnose Bricknose was 87-91. such nice trucks, considering getting a 81 F100 custom with the 300-6 and a C6 trans, regular cab short bed, it has power steering as the only option, guy's only asking 1000 OBO for it runs and drives
I bought a truck like that, but it had a 302 w/ a 5spd and dual gas tanks. Man I miss that truck. It had a granny 1st gear that would pull a house off its foundation,it was geared so low.
Most people literally don't think nowadays. All new cars look the same an don't offer anything better but more money waste in depreciation an repairs of unreliable new cars...
@@Maybe1Someday exactly , totally agree with you on that . Most of todays stuff breaks down because they're all full of electric crap that they dont need in them , the manufacturers need to go back to all mechanical operation without all the bells and bows they put in trucks now . Manufacturers ploy to build absolute garbage .
Nice! Right up my alley. It will run, suspect without much tinkering. That door lock was a high tech innovation in 81. Just enough to confuse the driver for the first 6 months of ownership. When Ford gave up on the rim blow horn in the 70’s they figured this was a great new way to interject panic and confusion to their loyal drivers. Thanks Jay, very much enjoyed this one. Good wishes to pops!
They're popular simply because they are great trucks that are easy to work on. Plus when it comes to customization, the sky is the limit with one of those. Rat rod truck, anyone?
My 81, straight 6, 4 on floor….2 21 gallon gas tanks/I could get 20 mpg and drive 800+ miles without stopping! I had a canopy and on long trips the wife and 2 kids would ride back there, coming and going thru the cab windows! Bed was carpeted, twin fold out couch, lights, cooler, porta potty. We did a trip a year from Colorado to Oregon. Times change. Loved that truck!
11094DEREK it’s not anymore. It’s an older double din stereo I had the same one in black in my 02 expy before I sold it. It cost me 150 when it was new. Now they are in pawn shops for 50 bucks maybe.
I had an 81 Custom F100, mine had AC, and power brakes/steering. I loved that truck. It was a 4 spd, but 4th gear was OD. Probably the same here. 4th wasn't actually an OD gear, it had like 276 ratio rearend, and the first 3 gears were really low ratio. A neighbor bugged me and bugged em until I sold it to him. I wish I had never let go of it though. it was great old truck.
I love mine!! It was given to me by a neighbor that had no parking space. It ran but barely. I took out the 300 st six and my mechanic put in a 2017 5.0 from a wrecked mustang. I added a Paxton supercharger and she’s a beast! We put it on the dyno a month or so ago. It was making 648hp to the rear. Next on the list is breaks and paint.
Would love to fix this one up. 👍 Second year for that body style, final year for the Ford letters across the hood. My cousin has an 86 F150 Lariet.....it still runs and drives, they last a long time.
Thats really rare for one of these to be in such good shape. The f100 in those days was the absolute cheapest option and usually they got used really hard and bullnoses in general tend to have really bad problems with rust especially rear wheel well rot. Dont crush it or anything. Worse comes to worse the cab and box will be worth a lot to people who are restoring a bullnose
Back in the sixties I had this little part time job working for this cheap boss and the local newspaper ran an ad for the cheapest model Ford pickup so they could show the lowest price. He went down there and bought one. 6cyl 3 on the tree, rubber floor mats manual everything, no radio, one sunvisor, no armrests, nuttin. plain white with a gray seat. He drove that sucker for years, don't recall it ever breaking down. lol
originally I believe there would be a block off plate as the truck has a spot "option" for 4x4 and that is where the selector would have gone if it had that option.
It’s the same age as me lol (And it is probably in better shape haha) Still can’t get over how little rust y’all have down there! And yeah the 80-82 Fords had the slider locks
My type of truck. Got a barebones ‘76 gmc I’m working on right now. Shortbed, straight 6, three on the tree, no power anything. Funny you mention sitting in the engine bay to get at stuff. I had to change the tube for the mechanical oil pressure gauge. Climbed in and sat in the engine bay when I ran it around the back of the motor. Was the easiest way to do it
I would seriously love to buy that truck dang nice not bad for a 81 I mean yeah carpet and some things are missing but hell I can go to junkyards and pretty much get everything I needed lol to finish it or Make it better I love to buy that live to see a video of it running or something please do!!!
I mean this is the perfect project truck that you could make into anything, keeping it standard, offroad rig, lowered road monster, drag truck or just the regular old v8 swap
Many years ago, we had a 1980 F150 Custom. It was a long bed with a 4 speed manual transmission. It had a brown/beige exterior with brown interior. The truck was pretty beat up, because it was used as a work truck all of it's life. Even though the truck was beat up, I actually miss it.
That brass radiator would never make it to a salvage yard here,It would definitely get pulled if anyone around here hauled it for iron!Good video ,Thanks for putting out good content!
What is this crap Jay? A real truck that can be used as truck? One that does not require a degree in computer/information technology so that it can move forward and backward? One that can be easily worked on with normal tools? That did not require payments for 84 months? What were they thinking back then? (Sarcasim). Love it of course and I can defintely see why this would sell as myself and many others would love this to fix-up and use as truck and not as an over-priced toy. My brother had one like that many years ago except he had an 8' box on his and looking @ today's over priced/over rated toys that they try to pass of as trucks - would love this! Definiitely a keeper and worth getting running and fixing up somewhat to sell it. Wish you had more of a background on it as to why whomever did not fix it but instead junked it out for reasons no known or understood but cool! What is happening with the bright orange 250 from months back? Was hoping to see more video on that.....????? Thank You! :-)
those type of engines are able to run with the bare min of anything it may not be a cool red light racer but it will go the distance. i used to own a 1977 ford f-100 explorer and the last thing i remember about it was a 302 v-8 and dual glass packs and a lot of rusted out panels that provided free air flow
Hey Jay smart remember a long time ago when I said my brother was looking for a truck and you had was that two tone red with a white stripe. Well he just bought one with no rust exactly like that f150
Thats what the custom trim and continuation of the f100 line was a legacy option. You still had a huge segment of people in the early 80s who wanted no power anything
That engine is sweet and that's a cool looking gear shift knob. I'm no fan of the 80s trucks though early 90s and 73-79 are my favorite. Last of the F100 trim.
That’s how they came back then. My dad was a finance manager at a ford dealer and back then all that stuff was extra it wasn’t standard equipment. You even had to pay for a rear bumper.
This 81 is very restorable, I just bought an 83 last fall for scrap value, much worse body condition. rust. Now 6 months later it's ready for the road.
with the shift knob and radio it was a kids truck. I bet the Duraspark gets hot and shuts it down like so many did. Then it was just an old truck off to the junkyard. The Duraspark distributor will run with a GM HEI module pretty reliably. I bet it will sell pretty quick
Aww man a 300 6 too! Exactly what im trying to find. Why do you gotta be so far away haha. Those engines go forever. I get about 30mpg in mine with the 4 speed too
i remember in 86 my uncle bought a new ford truck without a rear bumper and a 300 6 cylinder for 7995, he pulled a boat and couldnt get the truck to get the boat out of the water with the high gears in the rear end
I had a 1986 Ford F-150 same color that was stolen 3 years ago same color rims with straight six with air cond power steering etc but it had a bed off of a f250 on it the body was perfect the frame was soft I still see it every now and then and I called the cops to let them know I saw it but they told me since there was no plate and they didn’t know where it was going they really couldn’t do anything ran like a dream
Got the same rig. Mine has power steering tho. Friend of mine has one in town with ZERO option. Literally, does not even have heat because the dad never planned on driving it in the winter.
Had a co-worker back in the early 1990's with a white one just like that. Except he didn't even have a floor shift - 3 on the tree! I spy a Nissan Stanza (Sunny) in the background...
