You should have taken out the bit of Cu in the speaker's emitter after ripping through the membrane.

Do you get paid for alkaline batteries in Canada?

Yeah, I just brought batteries in actually. Household batteries are a little less than the car ones, but I had 14 pounds and got $4.13, so not bad. I am just glad it stays out of the landfill.
