Try WIN+P key combination until you get to mirror display

right click on the screen, does a context menu open? can you select a "display" option and modify the setting to mirror the desktop? I think you are seeing an extended desktop which does not always display icons or start bar.

This doesn't even work out to making any money just on the amount of time it took for you to take the stuff apart.
