Scrapping for copper. Here are some commonly missed places to find more copper.

@@TinManScrapper Silver contact boxes are called relays. when the coil is electrified (usually with 5-24 volts) the contacts close and can switch mains on and off. Those things on the heat sinks are transistors, you can burn them to acces the copper. on the circuit board you will notice loads of cylendrical upright things with metal tops. Those are capicitors, like a battery that can release all it's energy at once. Cut the base off to pull the CLEAN ALUMINUM can of the steal and paper insides.

@@josh_o_j the capacitors have some oil inside and can get messy. Not worth it for me. I know contact boxes are called relay boxes. Thanks for the info, you seem to be very knowledgeable about the items and probably how to put the board back together. Not me, I can take it apart, but not put it back together.

@@TinManScrapper btw with the small copper motors you find, you say you have trouble unravelling them, but I found a good way to do it you just hold the copper wire and let the motor drop, jingle it around and it will spindle down and unravel the copper pretty quickly. I can scrap a small motor in about 3 minutes

Nice that you checked if it worked first. I found a fan today that worked fine. Amazing what people throw out.

I think it all depends on where you live and the type of vacuum. I have had a little more luck on the copper end, but they are getting more scarce.

You could do the scratch test to see if the bigger spool is copper, but the inside smaller part is copper and there is also aluminum discs and brass on the motor. I will say that out of the 110+ vacuums I have scrapped over my years maybe 15-20 have been aluminum. In any case I still get the aluminum and throw the rest in my copper motors pile.

I cut as close to the copper/brass and put the silver contacts in a container. When I have a lot I will use nitric acid. It dissolves all metals but silver. Afterwards I am hoping to melt it down and make a silver bullion. Long time away though since I will need a lot of them to make a nice bullion.

I'm subscribed to a few of you guys on here and keep missing snobby scrap pickers lives lol. I melt all copper aluminium and brass. I'm sorta doing e waste too in that I'm stripping circuit boards bare and saving the components was watching a chap called 999 dusan and he puts the stripped boards in caustic soda to show the base metal under the green or whatever the colour of the pcb as some actually have gold underneath the green

@@TinManScrapper also from videos I have watched most contacts are 925 silver or purer. But in regards to contacts and silver recovery I switch between ewaste ben and 999 dusan

I have a Stripmiester. Basic model that uses drill to drive the cutter wheels. $250 Cdn.

I have a video on free silver and in the video I show my 10gallon bucket full of silver contact boxes I have yet to open. I have a vile done which is about 2/3 a pop can full. Need a lot more to do before refining so I can get a nice bullion

@@jacobgodinez4926 nice thing about silver contact boxes is that they also have a spool of copper. Not much but it adds up

The strands that are smaller than pencil lead are classified as #2. The copper tubing would be #1 so make sure you separate since here in Lon. Ont. #2 price $3.50 lb. and #1 $3.90lb.

My yards put all #2 in the same bin, whether it’s contaminated pipe with paint or solder or thin wire, or pieces from electrical boxes that maybe nickel or tin plated. All #2. #1 is usually clean pipes or thick pieces of plate or thicker wire that isn’t shiny. Bare bright is freshly stripped thick wire, pays the most. Don’t forget irony/dirty copper where it’s impossible to clean off iron, etc. like dirty brass.

Only a small dot of silver. Unfortunately not a lot, but still free silver. Some contacts are bigger than others. I add them up and one day will melt them down.

It's been burned. The silver makes contact with the switch and can get very hot. It's still silver.
