Although It's perfectly legal to go through trash & scrap people's junk, I don't know if I have the gall to go at the edge of someone's yard and go through their trash cans. Once trash is set out on the curb, it's considered public domain. The dude is making money and not hurting any one. We are such a wasteful country any ways. Go for it, DreamCar!
The Hurrier I go, The behinder I get. I LOVE IT.... I wish I could find a treasure like that. I saw that saying in a dairy barn that my brother worked at for years and I have said it for years and lived by it. Love his way of cleaning up and recycling. Thank you sir. You have made my day.
I love watching this kind of stuff. Thanks for taking the time to video your scrapping run. When I was a kid in the 60's, I used to get all the scrap TVs from the repairman across the street. Lots of copper and brass in those old sets. That's how I got my spending money in those days. Allowance? Never heard of it. LOL
Scraping relieves so much of my stress, it is a very fun job making money doing your hobby nothing feels better but you have to have time that's all it requires.
to the person who said they would be embarrassed doing that you should know this guy is doing several important things one he is recycling he is also teaching people who dont know how a new skill he is helping to feed and cloth his family and most important he is showing just how much money people throw away everyday he seems to be a good person cleans up after himself and others keep it going buddy
Thanks for the videos man! theyve inspired me to get out there and look around.. I found and lifted a 185 pound office drawer and got 10bucks. So basically made 10 bucks for 10min. for work.. The junk yard is only down the street so I got it good. I'm excited to start getting good like you!
today i was cleaning out a wooded area and a older man named james told me he asked the county 5 times to clean a all metal junk dump and 3 tvs. He said i was doing a good thing for him gave me a old 6-10 lb copper door stop 'slag from a old mill' and 5 bucks extra best scrap day EVER
Very cool man. I love doing this stuff. I got the cops called on me for taking aluminum cans out of someones recycling bin because it was considered "stealing." Cops were on my side and we were laughing together except the homeowner. No one else in my neighborhood has a problem with it as long as I don't make a mess which sounds fair to me.
Items at 5:20, broken dreams of the middle class, and or living beyond your means. high end neighborshoods are the place to go. I pickup a honda snow blower and was stopped by several people trying to buy it right off my truck, all that was wrong with it was a dirty carb, that was a keeper! just used it last week and saved my back. before that, it was all shovel. great vid can't wait till sping time!
Dang this guy scraps every little piece of metal when I go looking for scrap metal I only get the big pieces of metal lol this is a true hardcore nice video
Actually, 7:24 looks like guy passes on solid metal exercise weights cause he so tickled with new faucet... Might be he'll tell us they were plastic wheels LOL
Dude is looking at probably hundreds of dollars worth ski equipment as scrap metal. Take all the ski equipment and sell on Ebay or craigslist and make way more than 50 cents in scrap metal.
+j jones I know your comment is old, but I completely agree... IMO there is very little money to be made on scrap in between scrounging it, hauling it back home, breaking it down, and hauling it again to a scrap yard, just ain't worth the time to me for such a little return. I pick up stuff solely to use or fix and sell. I make 10x as much as this guy does scrapping it all by selling it on to someone else, majority of what I pick and fix are small engine stuff and they leave my hands in a day or so of posting..
How big is the overhead in doing this? I do this to and from places I'd already be going, in a small hatchback car. I can't help but look at a big V6 or V8 truck driving around doing this and wonder how much is lost to the price of fuel. I"m presuming it still works out in your favor?
i have an education and a job, i still go out with my buddies every week on trash night. its fun. i've found some REALLY nice stuff, including brand new tools that people just don't want anymore. most people are happy to see the things are being put to good use, last week i made over $150 in scrap and over $100 in selling things that i didn't scrap.
I have no prob with people scrapping or picking, what bothers me is when they just dont take the whole item. I was out front raking my yard one day, and had tossed out a 10ft plastic gutter extension with a metal elbow that I riveted on and some guy pulls up realized the extension was plastic, so he starts beating the metal off using my drive way as his hammer. I go seriously? Hes like every bit helps. Its like just take the item and go.. u pick the garbage.. u deal with the non steel items.
I would have told that guy to get the fuck out of your neighborhood and to get a job. Quit stealing scrap metal ect. We have scrapers that come down our st. My neighbor and I actually take dehumidifiers and gut the metal out of them. Put them back together filled with trash so there is weight. Then set them out for the trash for these scrappers to pick up. They pick them up not knowing until they get home to take them apart. LMAO We have been doing that all summer and have had a reduced flow of scrappers coming down our st. Take care man
Frank_82 You gotta start doing that. I tell my neighbors do not set metal out for the trash. The scrappers will come and take it and make a mess in the process. I actually caught one rooting through my trash can 8 months ago. making a big mess. I said get the f*** out of there. He looked at me like huh you talkin to me. Don't mind me I'm just pilfering through the trash and I shore like beans and ain't learned books.
I love what you're doing! :D This is exactly how I've updated my old water heater! :D You could probably build an entire house with time. :) Sometimes I feel like they're flexing to their neighbors, on who can throw out the most valuable stuff! lol Unfortunately, they're getting stricter at on dumpster diving. :/
'm totally with you in collecting and scrapping. It's when you take stuff back to the store for money or credit that's where I think your crossing the line.
Question to TheDreamCar: "Do people ever yell at you or ask you to get out of their rubbish?" I'm planning to go scrpping and I was wondering what to expect and how you handle it or how you would handle it.
in the state of Oregon it is considered theft of services to steal trash from the trash company. if it is next to the trash but not in it you can take it as a give away
That was fun to watch, I think it's more junking then scrapping but it looks like you are having fun. About the child car seats, the reason you see them in the trash is because by the time the child has grown out of one the improvements in safety have made them obsolete. No one wants their child in anything but the safest car seat. If you can't afford one there are many programs to make sure you can still have a current safe seat. Speaking of safety, is that truck ok? What the heck did you do to that poor truck? Look at my page for a video of my 1992 F150 with over 200,000 miles on it and it looks near new. LOL :)
hey pre obama i was embarrassed too but scrap is $$$$.i go to upscale area...always finding new stuff..even time when i knock on door ask and make sure that its trash..sometimes they even ask if want more
