Good technique, I like ideas like this to make cheaper trees, as the ready to plant ones are very expensive but if youve got the time go nuts. I may only have 1 tree on my layout, just to hide a join butI may make my own rather than buying one.
Alex Hill I agree Alex they are too expensive. Those 20 trees took me about 4 hours, with the longest job actually twisting the wire in the first place.

Hi, glad you found it useful. Its been a while but think it was 0.3mm. You definitely dont want it too thick amoe its hard to manipulate. Hope thats helpful
