And here I was thinking, "Medieval fantasy terrain, wtf Eric. I'll skip this video". BOOM! Peppercorns for lettuce... how wrong I was! Keep on inspiring the masses! I'll never skip another video 🤘🏼
12:31 An interesting thing about medieval heraldry is that they belonged to individuals, rather than families. People would often share similar colors and motifs when in the same family, but no one would share their heraldry with their family members. So if you find out you're ancestors were European noblemen from the Middle Ages, don't bother looking up "_____ family crest" to find your ancient symbol, just make your own if you really want one.
This was true until the Third Crusade, when Richard the Lionheart made Arms hereditary. I’m sure it was different at different times all over europe too
Hey! Great you're getting started in the D&D side of the hobby! Dm'ing is great fun too, and you're dead right about not worrying about it - just jump in. Learning as you go is better anyway :D
I mean... Even though d&d and other fantasy worlds are mostly based on medieval Europe they could have potatoes or at least similar plants... I mean, there are dragons, werewolves, magic, plants that can prevent curses... So yea... What's so unrealistic about a plant that renders these nice, coockable underground fruits? Why can't it be that it has indeed been brought in from another continent some centuries ago as they found a distant land that has fantasy potatoes... One could actually add some real world history as that kingdoms history... With potatoes being introduced by nobles for the peasants to feed themselves on that bland, dirty brown nuggets that grow creepy stalks if left at daylight for to long... There is a lot of potential for unique but yet inspired stories about real life food items being a thing in a fantasy world.
This truly is an "awesome marketplace". Love the detail, specially the leather bits on the cobbler's table. I actually think the paper towel texture looks great because it resembles a rough canvas cloth. As a fairly new fan of the hobby, I liked that you mentioned where the minis came from. Great job. Thanks for posting.
Wow!! That hair 😮 im back watching all the old videos so to see the 90’s boy band Eric’s hobby is quite a shock to the system!! 😂😂😂 Cool market stuff for D&D shall pass the onto the wife!! 😊
Binge watching the channel, not in any order, its been a huge inspiration on a number of levels... But... Love the fact I just watched the ruined city showcase video, where you mention never making another riser due to the mind numbing boredom of brick sculpting, only to come to this video and see a second one in the background :D Absolutely amazing channel. the work is incredible. :)
Thanks for sharing your ideas & techniques. I have always kept water next to me when using 2-part epoxy. I wet my fingers to help with the stickiness of the epoxy. I have never thought of using the pepper corn for cabbage. I have used it for coals in a fire pit though (used the bottom of a soda can for the pit).
Great build, love these little stalls! Should get a lot of use out of them now that you are DMing. As far as the tarps, someone mentioned wipes, which work well, but the blue, Shop Towels work very well for that heavy, canvas look.
How do you keep coming up with these ideas Eric? Peppercorns for mini cabbages! F'n brilliant dude! I've seen a lot of crafting DMs make market places, but the cobbler's stand puts this one a cut (of shoe leather) above the rest. Cheers man!
By the way, I truly appreciate your interest in heraldry. Most Americans find it horiffically pretentious, but it really is a great part of nostalgia and history for myself and my family.
I Like the Texture for the roofs of the awnings, I too have made some little stands like theses! I love the diff colors too, reds and blues EVEN some green ones worked well !!!! Thanks for Sharing YOUR IDEAS I LOVE YOUR WORK!! You gave me a WAKE up call!! AWESOME JOB!! I saved it into my FAVS! " as I do most if not all of your works of art!! THANK YOU!
For all the parents out there baby wipes make great tarps and are a bit more durable. Great build as always man, always great to see a notification pop up
Man, this marketplace looks like a fun project to build! Lot's of small stands, tables and items to craft that'll just make your imagination running. Those veggies look real brilliant! I've planned to build somekind of shopping centre for Necromunda someday, but don't know when I'll manage to start on that project. I still have a lot of other terrain items to build before that, like that Zone Mortalis area (I'm using your recipe to build the walls btw!). It also doesn't help that I haven't build any tabletop terrain in 12 years, so I feel super rusty to build anything. But watching these videos are really good for inspiration, thanks for that! Keep up the great work!
Nice job Eric. I got some great screen shots of the finished items. I like to use real wood for structures like these. It gave me a lot of ideas and I think I can go with it . Thanks.
@@EricsHobbyWorkshop I will do that. At the moment, I'm doing some 3d prints of things for a tavern, and I just finished some for a Dwarven brewery. Now I need to prime and paint them.
I would love to see a session of your D&D games!! Welcome to our medieval world. I hope you enjoy your stay!! I love this marketplace you have made. Please keep it up! Thank you.
i really enjoyed this build. simple and to the point. and as you say the more mundane something is the more fun it can be to imagine the characters and give them a great fun paint job
Eric you have some great ideas. Got inspired on your shanty town video. And made a build for Star grave board that I am working on. Keep up the good work .
Wow! Amazing job! Many things.. I'm sure you'll be a great DM, Enjoy! I looked up "dodge family crest" and saw quite a few, but i assume you mean the "Got Milk?" one? lol Keep up the great work!!
Great stuff my man! I get what you are saying about getting a story about the characters from their look. This is such a convincing market you have going on. You are a God amongst builders. I follow faithfully. But in a fun way, not blasphemous way, lol.
If we think about the technological advance the empire in warhammer has and also the fashion they wear, this is not medieval but more an rennaisance era. In our world we had allready potatos in europe in the rennaisance. ; ) Love your market! . )
These vids just get better n better... Want texture-free fabric? Try tissue paper...the kind used to hide the contents of a gift box ('cause apparently wrapping paper isn't enough). Don't use toilet/facial tissue...like I did when I was young (& foolish). Continue to use the superdiluted white glue though.
Good luck with the DMing, don't over prepare ! Go with the flow and be fair. D&D5 is I believe the best of the D&D series, you've chosen the right time to jump into the hobby ! If you like the system and feel nostalgia for the Old world there is a PDF with houserules to play D&D in the Old world... In anycase there are lots of skills you will need to learn as a DM (GM), that are usefull regardless of the game ! If this becomes a passion, you can find tons of info online, and with your fan base I'm sure plenty of people will offer advice if needed ! And as always, nice crafting dude !
Very cool. You could have also made tomatoes & corn. I use for my market booths. The little doll furniture desks at the $ store. I learned that from either DM Scotty or Miniature Mashup. Still waiting to see your version of some of those 80's cartoon building & terrain. I am designing a very large terrain that is similar to the Ultimate Beast Master obstacle course. It looks like it will be around 5 ft. long.
Fantastic stuff! I discovered your videos several months ago and have really enjoyed your apocalyptic/Necromunda inspired builds. But this one was pretty amazing! I'm all about the D&D terrain stuff, and wow! Some great market stalls there!! The SUPER fiddly things in some parts (the carrots and potatoes and potions) turned out really well, showing again that patience does prove necessary if you want some cool things. I think I prefer the more cheater method though of using the "bead" technique for potions, lol! Some of your stalls are next level though - super simple and great looking. Love the colours. Loved how the peppercorns turned out! Loved how all the fiddly vegetables turned out! I feel ripped off though as you sneak-peaked the cool fish and hanging animals but didn't show us the builds of those, lol! How'd you do the fish (just green stuff I'm guessing, which would be fairly easy). What about the hanging bodies of rabbits/small game? Those looked pretty cool and more than just pelts (which can also just be green stuff). All in: amazing and inspiring video!
The whole fish set is resin and purchased from a store. Its from a steampunk skirmish game called wolsung and i got it on sale a few years ago. Its a pretty awesome set though! I do think it could be sculpted as well having taken a close look at it . They seem to have cast a bunch of the same crate then sculpted details on
I mean who would complain about potatoes not being available while riding a gigantic Pegasus hurling Fireballs at Ratmen that shoot with Lasercannons and Miniguns at you while also a gigantic second moon with a face made completely of radioactive stuff smiles at you.. And why not call the potatoes putates and make 'em taste like old cheese? All that sounds historically correct considering it's fantasy history.
