Curious to know if you did the inside of the planter with mix? I wasn't able to see over the top (and I even stood up trying! :). ) And if you did/do the inside, do you carve that into a design as well?

I go down about 12" inches down and texture and finish it out. The dirt will sit about 2 inches from the top so even the dirt receded, the raw foam will not show.

Although costs if local materials will vary, could you do a cost breakdown for the entire project (this planter is a Great size) for your own area to give us a baseline idea? Possibly a breakdown in time for this project for a novice, and for an experienced person?
