Generic Scratch Platformer Starter Pack: -Player is a square -Wall jumping where you just hold the left/right key and the jump key -Lava and bouncy water in grass plains -No enemies or actual challenge -Copyrighted music, or no music at all -Single screen levels -Game ends abruptly with the last level having a wall on the far right -On trending with thousands of views
What I got: Music from other games Not really a challenge Hold up to fly Backgrounds and different floor things 2 bosses Arcade 3d game segment Last level you beat up someone and that is how game ends Not popular Hides secrets Sheriff Domestic alt universe that actually connects to another game but you shall never know And most importantly: PLAYER ISNT A FUCKING SQUARE
most of them use squares because they don't know how to use hitboxes and make the character the hitbox itself, or just to simplify the visual gameplay i had a idea of a mechanic of a CIRCLE that you couldn't jump
Im working on a high-action projectile based singleplayer platformer with side modes and a local multiplayer pvp mode. I also has a level editor that may or may not make it into the final game
every single generic scratch platformer includes: the player is a black cube with a big round eye the spike is a metal pyramid made up of only two colours the background is usually bright blue/dark purple the end goal is always to the right of the level the terrain is very simple, the same grass texture for all of it (with slight variations) the same pop-up that constantly reminds you to like and favourite all the time the level design is horrible; usually tight chained jumps are introduced very early into the 'game' also talking about level design, it litterally tells you it instead of letting the player experience it first, like most platforming games do the same goddamn wall-jump mechanic is used, along with the same level that 'introduces' it. the title is usually something like 'a relaxing platformer' the thumbnail usually includes yet another pop-up asking you to like and favourite the games are so similar to one another that you could add something simple like make it scrolling instead and it'll feel so much unique the last level is, yet again, asking you to like and favourite the bg music is, not usually, but all the time just the same 2015 NCS song the games get seemingly always on trending absolutely no wasd controls
2 years ago I tried to make an original platformer, and I think I succeeded. I created a 5 game series called The Ninja Squad. I incorporated different ninjas to switch between and each ninja had their own abilities and areas which they can pass through.
Younger me was a GENIOUS and made a fake platformer with bad physics named "A good game". As soon as you touch the ground it plays the windows error sound and messes up the scratch cat sprite, then stops the project. I later updated it to have 'mobile controls'. That's all. The mobile control stick was the most complex thing in the project. You don't even collide with the ground.
The thing is, if the platforming code e v e r y b o d y reuses were actually good and functional I wouldn't have a big problem with this. However, the code itself is not great and has a lot of issues. I do not understand how not a single person reusing this engine hasn't managed to change anything about it for the better. The gravity feel floaty, the movements are sloppily done, and even the collision detection has many issues due to there not being any implementation of a modulo function or a good enough repeat loop. And I'm not even going to mention slopes 💀
Yeah, it's crazy how most of them all use basically the same platforming engine despite its many issues and how it's like a decade old now. I myself didn't use it in mine, instead opting for a different one that I like to think is a bit better but still has plenty of its own issues, but I'm all to familiar with the typical one constantly used from playing other peoples' platformers.
I spend weeks making an original grindcraft remake and these guys spend 0.69 hours on a platformer and get a HUNDRED TIMES MORE VIEWS???? VERY NICE ALGORITHM SCRATCH
I once made a platformer called "Text - a Platformer" and it was pretty generic. The only original thing was basically the character and background looking like a sketchbook. Glad i didnt continue it.
These games are my worst nightmare. I spent 2 years on fully recreating the wii menu. its more functional and fun then any one of these games. 1000 views in 2 years, but these guys get 300,000k in a few days? APPALLING. Edit: And whenever i criticize any of these platformers, i almost get my account deleted by enraged 7 year olds. Edit 2: Fixed grammar mistake lol
I know man, I've been working on a concept for a game (that's also better than at least 99.9% of all scratch platformers) and it's at one view Plus, when one of these are completely unfair and that's not the point, the seven year olds defend it too.
I'm not advertizing but I am making a platformer called bouncing cube adventures and I made sure that it is not like other ones. It isnt on the scratch website though. When will generic platformers have scrolling cameras already.
How to get famous on scratch, Step 1: grab a crappy platformer script. Step 2: add a few levels with red lava, red spikes, and round grass. Step 3: add copyrighted music. Step 4: name is something stupid like "Grassy" (I have seen several platformers with that name.) Step 5: share it and wait for thousands of views.
I made a plaformer from the building ground because I knew those plaformer are overrated and will make me infamous instead of famous. (Still a underrated user because of these plaformers)
I found this platformer, and it really fiels different. I think it is because of the maze that continues, puzzles,Jokes and bossfight, itagain isjust a little easy. Project code: 609297589
