Scratchbuilding an N-scale house, part 1

This is the first of a 4-part series in which I document my first attempt at scratchbuilding in a new scale. No I haven't abandoned my HO-scale layout in favor of a new scale. This is a professional structure building contract - hopefully the start of a new career. It's certainly easier and quicker building a house in N-scale than in 12"=1ft scale.
Correction: The random stone foundation is "N-scale Architect", not "JTT".

So far I've been scatch-building all of my N-Scale structure's, bridges, and trestle's for my 3 ft X 6 ft N-Scale Layout out of nothing but wooden kitchen matches, fireplace matches, round woooden shishkabob skewers, and various sizes of wooden popcycle (craft), sticks glued together with Tight-Bond wood glue, then hand painted with cheap 60 cent acrylic craft paints. Are they true to scale? Well they are very close to scale. Are they Realistic in appearence and details? Somewhat, but in reality who cares, as I'm not out for absolute true realism and true realistic detailing like so many others are into or strive to do. Mine is more like what you would classify as "Standoff Scale" such as what you would see from a distance and not what you would see in details by standing up close. I'm only looking for just overall general appearence to represent something and to have fun with my model railroad. Do I care about what others say? Frankly No., and frankly I don't give a Dam. Anyway, It's my railroad not theirs. So I'll do my model railroad my way, and they can do their own model railroad's their way. Besides, nobody is going to see it but myself, my wife, and maybe a few friends who might drop by once in a while.

It only took about an hour to fix the error. On the finished model, there's a visible line around the building where I added extra material. I'm not bothered because it's at floor level and old buildings frequently have a bump in the siding at floor level. It's not something I would deliberately model, but it is fairly prototypical.

Look forward for remaining build videos.. the steel & magnet box certainly helps as a second/third hand when needed for square corners..

I've head it said in the building trade, that the difference between an apprentice and a expert is the ability to fix a fowl-up before it becomes a problem.

Looking like a great build so far Peter! Can't wait to see the finished product. So, what was all the elephant stomping about? Hopefully it's not the wife packing up and leaving because she is sick of trains eh? LOL Ha Ha! Surely not. Cheers, Dan

No, it was my stepson playing with the dog. It doesn't sound anywhere near as loud in the video as it was in person. You can also hear him squawking at 8:59 - I've no idea what that was all about.

Are you referring to N-scale, or to the errors in the plans? The plans I was given were drawn professionally so I expected them to be right (I should have known better). I noticed one glaring error the moment I looked at them, and there were several others that reared their heads as construction progressed. The wall templates being wrong was the only one that caused rework though. I didn't even try to use the porch roof template because it was clearly drawn at completely the wrong angle - a rookie mistake.

i was referring to N scale... any mistakes with the plans or human can be fixed... it's called "adapt & overcome" BTW i don't know how much my internet will be down... they told me in 48 hours they would cut my service... it's been a bit longer than that right now...
