Screamin' Jay Hawkins - I Put A Spell On Me [Docu]
The legendary Screamin' Jay Hawkins was a great influence on many musicians and his performances were so highly provocative in their originality that even today they can be considered "revolutionary".
Screamin' Jay Hawkins met Nicholas Triandafyllidis and commissioned him to make a documentary about his notorious life in and out of the music industry. Screaming Jay came to Greece and he gave his very last concerts in Thessaloniki and Athens, before his sudden death in Paris in 2000.
Having been left a legacy of confidential sessions and footage of his final live performances, Triandafyllidis completed the film with a little help from Jay's friends: Jim Jarmusch (director of Ghost Dog), Bo Diddley, Eric Burdon (The Animals), Rudi Protrudi, Diamanda Galas, Arthur Brown (The Crazy Word of Arthur Brown), Andre Williams and others.
He remained faithful to their common vision:
"A film full of positive energy, an endless source of life".

I saw him at Slims in San Francisco in 1992, I was a young punk rocker. I'd seen hundreds of shows all over the state. I thought I'd seen it all, nope, screaming Jay Hawkins was like no other! Some performers play music, and he plays a show that takes you to another level. I still think about it.

Who here thinks that Screaming Jay Hawkins deserves to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? I think he deserves consideration. The producer of this documentary, Nicholas Triandafyllidis, died in 2016.

Pure nonsense.. the beginning of heavy metal was from England, and it’s based on the industrials sound of the cities, Birmingham and Sheffield etc that’s why it’s called “heavy metal”

Something about the shock drives me nuts. I don't think the shock is what makes him so captivating... NOBODY SOUNDS LIKE THIS MAN. When you listen to 'I Put a Spell on You", you don't think about his gimmick; it's so powerful by itself.

omG! he's so beautiful I didn't know him during his long hair days but, I had my hair done at a local beauty parlor before the GiG at Biddy Mulligan's in Chicago where I sang back up vocals and I was in CHARGE of pyrotechnics for both sets, him flying me out to Hollywood and all of the memories that I have of our experiences together still haunt my "mind"

Being a long time fan and Greek as well. knowing many of the participants, I can assure you it was made with nothing but pure love, by some of Greece's underground scene most important fellows. No commercial purposes or anything. How could that be anyway? At a certain period there were even huge graffitis of him in the city and some schools of Thessaloniki done by students, and always things like those around. Jay means so much for so many of us worldwide and through time. Thank you for your kind words. God bless you!

His vocal range as a singer is on another level…I can’t really thing of another singer in any genre that could go form a lower/bass range to almost a upper/soprano/falsetto range like him….Hes kind of like Thelonious Monk, whereas both of thier eccentricities overshadowed their genius..otherwise he would easily be considered one of the greatest pop singers ever..

Truly one of the greatest artists. 9 years old Norwegian Prodigy Angelina Jordan introduced many people to Screamin’ Jay Hawkins. Her performance of “I Put a Spell on You” is one of the most incredible at any age but by a 9 years old it is mind blowing. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nwFloCPXzCs.html

His claim that Sammy Davis Jr lost his eye because he was seeing Kim Novacks was not true. Sammy lost his left eye in a car accident way before he started Kim. However the movie studio she was connected to was afraid that their relationship would hurt her image and their bottom line, execs with mafia ties had Sammy kidnapped for a few hours,during which he was threatened with the loss of his other eye if he didn't stop seeing her.
@mikomon309
@mikomon309 5 лет назад
I've lived in Vegas for years and my family was in the biz back in the day. I too heard that Sammy lost his eye NOT in a car accident as reported. While I never heard it was due to Kim specifically, I heard it was about his extra-curricular activities with white women.
