Rant and opinion on why I hate how most screwdriver sets are put together (this Tacklife screwdriver set example is made in China)

agreed. Everyone hates slotted and I get it but I use them all the time. I like dedicated drivers and such for production type work, especially for installing slotted screws. I am realizing that having options is very important. I have noticed on some older slotted screws for wood, the slots are slightly tapered too. Felo wooden handled drivers fit very nicely but they are better for slotted steel screws that are older. For delicate fasteners, I really like the PB Swiss. For now I have the pb 8102.DN 4-100 : 6.5 x 1 and it has been really handy for the #5 slotted brass screws I use a lot in my furniture. The rounded edges don't rip up the soft brass.

Thanks for watching and commenting. The PB Swiss use VSM standard slotted tips which aren't tapered and therefore less likely to damage or cam out. It's why I prefer hollow ground or vsm versus tapered slotted screwdrivers. Each have their own pros and cons.

Great video. I was thinking when I watched the video where you said you were going to do this video that people’s views on tools is driven by what they do with them. I can see how long PH2 and PH1 are very useful for computers getting to screws deep in cases and slotted would be near worthless. I find myself but large sets and then duplicates/singles of PH2/PH3 and adding to the sets because I need large slotted for old house work. I even use a PZ4 with some regularity (land rover door hinge screws).

Thanks for watching and commenting. I agree the only screwdriver that can't be replaced by multi bit is slotted. That's also due to the shank (may damage the bit sleeve if you try to pry with it on a bit holder)

Interesting perspective; but the slotted driver is still very commonly used and needed. I have full sets of both slotted and Philips; however, in my small maintenance tool bag and I only keep a single slotted driver, and Philips #2 and #3. Only need a PH#1, or #0 and #00 when dealing with small electronics. Never turned a PH#4 but I do have the driver if needed -- I've seen PH#4 used on the commuter train.

Thanks for watching and commenting. Sure there's still slotted screws out there but unless you need tapered drivers or striking cap bit drivers would be a better solution overall for all those screws.

Gotta love how every Craftsman screwdriver set is missing Craftsman's most useful screwdriver, the Craftsman 9-41586. They thought we wouldn't notice...

Just buy your own screwdrivers that you need individually make your own set. Nobody is stopping you. Electricians need slotted drivers.
@htr5372
@htr5372 Год назад
Thanks for watching and commenting. While that may be a solution individual screwdrivers often cost more outside of a set, also for electrical work you're more likely to use combination or square drives, not just slotted alone

Okay...liked and I am already subscribed...so leaving a comment down below 😃 Jokes aside, I completely agree with what you are saying......the only place where I have seen that you can mix / match screwdrivers they way you want are with Bacho and Wera screwdrivers at Bauhaus Stores here in Europe, everywhere else they are always only sold as sets....so like you said; you end up with maybe 3 screw drivers that you actually use out of a set with maybe 6 screw drivers and often forcing you to buy multiple sets to get the sizes you actually need, so you end up with eight million nine hundred and fifty two thousand four hundred and thirty six slotted screwdrivers (Note; number might be exaggerated...perhaps.......maybe...) that you will never use and will just take up space in your tool box, which is just stupid. The only thing I really use slotted screwdrivers for these days are as a light duty pry bar, which the large slotted screwdriver is excellent for.....but wtf do I do with the rest!? In my opinion, instead of a typical set consisting of PH1, PH2 and 4 or five random slotted, a good set should consist of PH1, PH2, PZ1, PZ2 (all either 100mm or 150mm) and a large and small slotted (maybe 0.5x3x150 slotted and as big as 1,6x10x175 slotted, and preferably tang-tru version of the large one)....like you said; if you need a short screwdriver; you would use a stubby.

Thanks for watching and commenting. It's probably the only reason why I don't get rid of slotted screwdrivers. Even sets that come with Phillips 3 are often useless in my opinion, I rarely see a Phillips 3 fastener and it's easy to grab a Ph3 bit for those. The only screwdriver I'd really would consider having would be long shaft Phillips 1 and long shaft Phillips 2 really. Unfortunately most screwdrivers take up space and that's in part due to their handles. It's why I feel interchangeable blades are the way to go or multi bit screwdrivers (except for when you need a slotted prybar)

@@htr5372 No I don't understand the whole PH3 thing either, they are rare to find and rarely justifies a dedicated standalone PH3 screwdriver. Some server cabinets and TV mounts use PH3, but they are not that common, otherwise I have only really found PH3 on different landscaping equipment and a very few vehicles....the hose clamp on the intake tube on my 2004 Rav4 for instance uses a PH3..for some reason....where as every other phillips fastner on the car are PH2 (Apart from bolts OBVIOUSLY)...yeah, dont ask.......on the Ford I had the battery holddowns were PH3...and every other fastner was etiner Torx 15, Torx 20 or PH2...
@htr5372
@htr5372 Год назад
@@socialghost4400 Perhaps some furniture for Phillips 3 as well but otherwise rarely seen. I haven't seen Torx to be too common but it's more common on hard drives, servers and on certain motherboard ilm assemblies. I believe some ready made computers from the big manufacturers also come with Torx by default. I believe T20 and T30 is the most common sizes for the above (aside from lower sized Torx)

@@htr5372 Alright....ill try to be brief here; Adam Savage made a video about a year ago about how his favorite screwdrivers are vintage Stanley Workmaster series screwdrivers....I just looked and they are not that expensive but they all in the US. You could make a video giving your personal opinion on them and maybe comparing them to current Stanley screwdrivers...just an idea

I want a matched set including Ph and JIS. But no! They come from different sides of the world! No Pz for me though. I have a Pz #2. Never seen a Pz screw. Thinking about getting torx screwdrivers. But anything torx usually requires more than wrist action. I have torx bits from t8 to t70. Impact rated.
