"Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You" (Psalm 119:11 NKJV). Scripture memory was important thousands of years ago, but is it still relevant today when we have several Bibles on our bookshelves and smartphones? Should Christians still commit themselves to Scripture memorization? And how can archaeology strengthen our faith in the accuracy of the Bible?
In this episode, hosts Trey and Ivana chat with the Bible Memory Man, Professor Tom Meyer, and ICR's Chief Academic Officer Dr. Jim Johnson to discuss the importance of Scripture memory for the Christian faith, three practical ways to "hide God's Word in your heart," exciting archaeological finds that confirm biblical history, and more.

I grew up in a church that encouraged and rewarded the children for memorizing Scripture. My late husband was a pastor, and we also have made Scripture memory a priority, especially for children. On Wednesday evenings during the first part of the mid-week service at our church, the children line up and quote KJV Scripture verses, then adults are invited to quote Scripture as well. At 65 years old, I still try to memorize Scripture … hide them in my heart! ❤️🙏🏻

I started memorizing scripture last January using "The Joshua Code - 52 Scriptures that Every Christian Should Know" by O.S. Hawkins. I'm almost 67 and memorized almost 150 verses so far. The more I memorize, the more I want to memorize. It's exciting!

It is good to hear someone talking who loves, believes and respects the bible.. Music is a good way to remember passages of scripture.. I have memorised various passages by writing songs, or putting the words to melody, and rhythm, in a project called School of ISAIAH Glory to God

I write out the scriptures, and read the Bible and Spiritual Teachings out loud, that have helped me in so many different ways. Builds up the Holy Ghost too over flowing in one’s body. I try too pass it on to others, what readings out loud can do in your heart, mind, body and Soul.

Wonderful video! At 42:00, Dr. Jim Johnson begins to discuss the ancient Chinese pictographs and how those who were inventing the pictographs must have had knowledge of the events in Genesis. For those interested in learning more you must read the book: THE DISCOVERY OF GENESIS, How the Truths of Genesis Were Found Hidden in the Chinese Language. Authored by C.H. Kang and Ethel R. Nelson. It's a fascinating read!

Wow! I have such trouble with memorizing anything. Regarding Leviticus, consider that it's all about how God wants to relate to his people, so the details reveal depths of God's character that you won't get from any other book.

Excellent podcast! May I ask a small favor? Please consider changing the intro music because it is a bit distracting.

Yes, perhaps just lower the volume on it and/or let it fade out earlier.

ICR, guys, I love you all and what you do, but that intro song might be the most annoying thing I've ever heard. Wounds of a friend. Much love to you all.

I've been memorizing Scripture in the English Standard Version. I like ESV because it is similar enough to KJV that it doesn't feel significantly different, but it fixes all the textual errors in the KJV. For instance, the KJV completely leaves out an essential phrase in 1 Cor. 9:20 ("though not being myself under the law") while wrongly including phrases that are almost universally agreed to be non-canonic, such as 1 John 5:7b.
