I love this pattern and fish it from a size 14 down to a size 18. Although generally prefer it in the smaller sizes. It is a versatile pattern and have had success with it swung like a soft hackle through the current or drifted like a nymph behind something heavier. Often as well I have found it will be picked up if you let it lift through the water column on the end of your drift as well. In general i think it represents an emerging mayfly but is general enough to tick the box for several different aquatic insect depending on the color and size. This fly can be made to float more as well if you want it to by replacing the wing with CDC or incorporating kapok dubbing. although I do love the bugginess that the squirrel dubbing provides!
