Cathrine Ohare, is one of the most talented actresses I have ever seen in show business. From comedy to drama, I have never seen her in a role that I disliked. She is gorgeous here, I almost forgot how attractive she truly was.

I watch this clip over and over, and I can't quite figure out why it is so brilliantly funny, but it is. I love SCTV - far better than Saturday Night Live. I already mentioned Catherine O'Hara's brilliance, but Rick Moranis is also marvelous. He is a musician (singer and drummer), actor, and comedian. The entire SCTV cast was amazing.

Agreed. I loved the entire SCTV cast, but Joe Flaherty was my favourite. He was the only one of the cast who didn't get much exposure after SCTV ended. He definitely deserved to!

Despite being a bit outdated, it's amazing how funny this stuff still is. Holds up better than most of the SNL stuff from the same period of the early 80's.

Outdated? Way to state the obvious man. I grew up watching this show on TV before the shitty internet and thought it was way funnier than SNL from the late seventies and on thru the early eighties. This group of talented individuals made history and were overlooked by the mainstream big time. If anything Hollywood plucked some of them up and made them huge stars like John Candy.

Dude, relax. When I say outdated, I was only referring to some of the cultural references. Someone born in 1985 probably doesn't have an appreciation for Calvin Klein's commercials with Brooke Shields or public access TV. Or Tip O'Neill. Just from a comedic standpoint, the comedic timing and the humor and delivery are priceless, however. And you were absolutely right about Saturday Night Live taking the ball and running with it in terms of how the sketches are written and delivered. Unfortunately, our current culture has a very limited shelf life when it comes to comitic references is all I was trying to convey in my statement earlier. If you grew up during this. Of time these comedic sketches are still extremely funny.. Rick Moranis playing Brooke Shields' mom or Gerry Todd are still classic comedy. I was simply trying to say that a certain age group may not immediately get the humour.

Jason Mullins Yeah, half the references might be missed if you were born after '80. Nonetheless it is still some of the funniest shit ever made. It was slightly cheesy even back then but there was an honest genius coming out of them all as a team and individually. It never stopped blowing my mind how they could be consistently funny week after week. Cheers

I was always an old movies fan from the time I was a little kid, so whenever there was an SCTV skits or an SNL skits or a Carol Burnett skits or a Mel Brooks movie I got it right away. But now (and it's ok you can say okay Boomer, I won't mind) I think it's unfortunate that the current generations don't delve into the past the way I did back in the late 60's and early 70"s and thus have a frame of reference for later humor

That sketch was so great. Catherine O'Hara was so spot on as Brooke Shields. And Rick Moranis was hilarious as Brooke's mother, while Joe Flaherty was as funny as Kirk Douglas. Although this wasn't one of his better moments, John Candy did a good job playing House Speaker Tip O'Neill.

Never got credit? He had plenty of credit after he'd done Ghostbusters, Little Shop of Horrors, Spaceballs, and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. If he hadn't quit acting to become a full-time father after his wife died of cancer, he would have stayed on top for a long time. By 1990, though, he could pretty much do whatever he wanted.

Joan Cusack totally does Brooke Shields' airy voice, and nails it with showing what bone-headed comments Shields used to make. So funny! Remember the anti-smoking campaign? - "If you die, then you've lost a very important part of your life." LOL!!

I had a girlfriend who was in Brooke's class at Princeton. I don't recall her saying Brooke was an airhead. I think she said she was pretty normal. These actors were all great - but Catherine O'Hara always got my engine going. She was a cutie. A wacky show I enjoyed in my youth. I miss John Candy so much.

I think the Brooke being an airhead thing was because she was so sheltered in her home life by her alcoholic stage mother Teri. Her mother controlled her for decades. Brooke was nearly 40 before she was able to have a successful marriage and children.
