Congrats. Diving is really as close as you can get to going to another planet. But those one day excursions for beginners are not the best way to learn. doing a full certification course makes a big difference. For example getting better and clearing your ears. Also learning sills that allows you to go more undamaged coral ect. But i really love how you two are really going for new adventures and taking on things you never thought you would have the courage to do. Bravo

Floating up and down to the surface is just so dangerous amongst boats without surface marker DSMB's. You should learn properly what the risks are in a classroom environment before try diving then be in a sheltered environment or swimming pool to learn skills. The company you went with should be prosecuted for putting you at risk. Unfortunately there are some unscrupulous operators in Koh Tao who just want young peoples cash. I know, I've been diving in Koh Tao for over 20 years and have seen the consequences, some times fatal of these cowboy outfits.

Philippines has highest marine bio diversity in the world, it is part of coral triangle with over 70% of coral and over 40% of reef fishes in the world. Philippines is the best place for diving good luck
