Yes! They are good to eat but you have to be careful to cut the spines off as they can still sting. Here, there is no size limit, no bag limit, and you don't even need a fishing license to catch and sell lion fish. Make sure to thank the restaurant for serving lionfish and encouraging their capturing from our waters.
You guys can fish underneath but I’m going to stay in the boat to fish. My dad ran Charter boat in Apalachicola Florida on the gulf side. I used to go out every weekend about 20 miles off shore. But haven’t been in years since I moved up north. Looked like a good time though. The only place I swim is swimming pools. Haha. You can have the ocean.
I find it very natural to be underwater but some find it confining with the face mask on. The face mask covers your nose so you breath normally through the reg.
Both days were incredibly calm, which is a bit unusual for our area. This is just a gopro 10 in a waterproof case set on automatic settings. The drone is my bottom-of-the-list drone, a mavic mini 2.
Awesome, this is my kind of thing.....so tranquil and majestic....you have some nerve around those stingrays and the moray's..i wouldnt do that. im a nerd for anything underwater & the Titanic etc etc.
As long as you don't get above or trap these guys they are usually pretty friendly. A hidden sting ray that I don't see can really startle me when they finally swim away. Morays have poor eyesight and look mean but they are usually pretty nice too. lol
@@GCFD My father got to swim above a Manta ( i believe it was ) in the Bahama's on our trip in the early 80's, it scared the living --- out of him at the time.
Great video, really enjoyed it. I may have missed you mentioning it but the lionfish spines are venomous, no? Here in FL, during spiny lobster season, you can extend your daily limit by bringing back lionfish. Does NC do anything like that?
I own a vacation place just down the road from there. I would love to learn to spearfish... Do you run any charter dive/ spearfishing trips. Also I have never been diving in the ocean as not too much saltwater here in West Virginia
He shot the grouper realized it was to small and pulled the spear. Still a dead fish uncool . Plus he shot underneath you at a porgy ! Great video though
I just got finished playing North Carolina delegate Joseph Hewes in "1776 The Musical". He wanted deep sea fishing rights written into the Declaration of Independence, I'm happy to see you exercising those rights.
I haven't been there but I have been to Manatee, Ginny, the Bluge Grotto and many other FL springs. Water was about 77 at the sand and 82 at the top. I was in a lavacore top.
@@GCFD at that time offed only one resulution , will try again really like ur channel and projects, maybe get one then water bikes lol watching now thxs sir
Thanks for sharing this shawn, great video.. My wife and I are traveling with our kids down from Canada to York, SC next week to see some family. Not sure if that's too far from you.
Not at all what i expected from this channel, but super thankful you posted this. Any time i ask someone about scuba diving they leave out the basics and just talk about the cool stuff they saw. Your little introduction and overview made the whole thing super accessible to a completely ignorant person like myself. Now if only my inner ears weren't trashed and I could deal with the pressure changes to actually go scuba diving!
Lufia - It's important to start clearing your ears when you're 5 inches (inches!) deep. Start clearing before you feel anything and that's the key. If you're feeling pressure it may be too late to start clearing your ears. It takes practice but that's a golden tip for helping you.
@@GCFD i've tried that in a pool and it... hurts. More. I might be at the point where I would need tubes in my ears if I lived aomewhere hilly. Nine ear infections in high school alone... i'll experience scuba through videos for now haha
That looks so fun! I’ve always wanted to try scuba diving, and what a beautiful spot as well. I’d give spear fishing a shot but I think I’d be much more interested in watching the sharks and other sea life.
I've been diving for 7 years and I just got interested in spear fishing on this dive (thanks, Ray!). My main goal is to see the sea life. I also want to put together a "common fishes of the carribean" video but I have over 500 clips. If I can get going on it I think it will be a fantastic video. hint: under water, I am the drone.
Perfect viewing on a sunny Sunday evening in a ver hot Scotland! It's 26°C (77°F) outside! Loved the calming drone footage at the end. 😊 Was great to see all the fish and shark species. What other cartilaginous species have you spied on your diving trips? Are there any you'd like to see or some you'd prefer not to see?
@@GCFD in the US. North dry rocks in island marada keys. There is a statute of Jesus give by the French for such clean waters. It’s about 18 ft tall in 30 feet. Others have been throughout the Caribbean. I finding you are a big outdoors kinda guy. Thanks Sean
Awesome video. Id love to be able to do that. I tried 30 years ago to dive. I was taking a PADI corse but just couldn’t deal with the final exam. They wanted us to go down 40’ to a platform in a lake. Pitch black visibility. Remove ALL gear and put it back on. Once I found that out I quit the class and sold the gear I purchased. Just couldn’t handle it.
Yikes Andy! I didn't have to do any of that. We had to go down to the platform and practice switching our regulators out, taking off the mask and then clearing it and breathing off a buddy's octo. I'm taking the Solo Diver class and you have to be able to remove your gear and untangle yourself for that specialty course.
Great video! I’ve only ever dived in Jamaica. I didn’t realize the rest of the Atlantic could be this clear. I definitely need to look into doing this!
NC has the best shipwreck diving in the world I've been told. This was a crappy day for vis as I've seen it much clearer. But we get a lot of storms off the coast and some years more dives are canceled than go.
There are great charters out of Moorehead city, wilmington, south port. Check out my dive of the U boat (this is also the dive where my dive buddy showed me his gopro 9 and I upgraded all my stuff). ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nDuCNgecX3I.html
