Scuba Diving in British Rivers. Initially this is only the River Waveney at Ellingham, near Ellingham Mill, and Bungay at Falcon Meadow. There is plenty of junk to be found in the rivers - old bottles, abandoned bikes, lots of bottles, fishing tackle and even military equipment. We see pike, roach, rudd, perch, dace, chub, gudgeon in terms of fish and Turkish Narrow Claw crayfish here in the Waveney. The dive season is very limited due to weed growth and clarity through silt but is always interesting for a little rummage. Welcome to my channel, I hope you enjoy watching all the kayak fishing around the UK, mostly in the North Sea - in the sea and river, fishing for cod, bass, tope, dogfish, smoothound, thornback ray, whiting, wrasse and anything else I can target There's scuba diving off the North Norfolk Coast and Suffolk, wreck diving, reef diving, river diving, even Cenote Diving, in the Red Sea off Egypt, the Mediterranean off Malta and Gozo and in Mexico, Brazil, Lanzarote in the Canary Islands, Pembrokeshire in Wales, Swanage and Plymouth and of course the diving with sharks in South Africa. There's kayaking too, including surfing sailing and touring in the UK and abroad and a bit of snorkelling, Plenty of videos too of me fiddling with and driving my classic car, a 1973 Triumph Spitfire and other cars get a look in too. There's cooking, eating, travelling around various cities in Europe - Berlin in Germany, Naples and Rome in Italy, plus the Vatican; Sofia, Varna, Plovdiv and elsewhere in Bulgaria; Lefkosia / Nicosia and much of Cyprus, Krakow in Poland, there's Malta too. Istanbul in Turkey just outside Europe too, and Egypt around Hurghada. Further afield there's a bit of South Africa and Latin America with the Mayan Riviera of Mexico and Rio de Janeiro, Paraty and Isla Grande in Brazil. There's even a bit of Northern Ireland and parts of England mixed in with the nonsense of East Anglia in a camper van with my daughters! If you enjoy one video please watch another and consider subscribing so you don't miss future uploads however crap they might be! Thanks and regards, Mark

Glad I've seen this, I have a recovery job tomorrow and was looking what the bottom type was like, looks like I might have a interesting dive after all

Yeah it's pretty good down there. These dives would have been May from memory - it gets choked up with weed as summer progresses though so that and the mud (and the lack of rain lately dropping the water levels) may make it a fair bit harder. Where are you diving?
@85gregbrett
@85gregbrett 2 года назад
I'm not 100% on location, all I'm told is it's 20mins paddle from locksmith inn and it's too deep to stand up, it's a mobile phone in waterproof case, access is gonna be on paddle board for that section it seems

@@85gregbrett upstream from the locks or down? Down should be less weed from the boats but also less Vis. Upstream is mostly shallower and likely better Vis but more weed. It's tidal so depending when it went in it could have moved a fair way but may have got lodged in branches or weeds etc. The further upstream the less tide effect of course. Good luck, be interested to know how you get on!

It's downstream, hopefully the tidal movement isn't that strong and it's lodged in the weeds firmly on the bottom or there won't be much chance as it's been 5 days, we will see 🤞thanks for the info I'll let u know how it goes

fascinating and thanks .... I could watch a thousand vids like this -local rivers are as good as it gets as material in my opinion - do they allow diving on grafham water ? as there is a village under the surface -same as rutland water I think ?

I've no idea, I have never heard of anyone diving there but I've not looked to be honest. I do like going into rivers though!

Hey here's some help, I was searching for: 'British river divers' you did not come up 1st ☹. Is there a way for you to add keywords to YT searches? These will help _your_ channel. Thanks! New sub. 🤗🇨🇦 EDIT: Old bottles are worth money on eBay. PLUS, please grab as much garbage as you can, down there like that ladder & fishing tackle. From the looks of it your not picking it up. Maybe show us you're putting trash in a separate mess bag? It makes you look good, cause it's _great_ for the environment! Win-win, eh!? You guys got _me_ wanting to do this in my country!

Hey, thanks for your comments! I have added a playlist of my five river dive videos with that title, have added it to the tags and description too. Should be five show up. We've retrieved loads of old glass bottles, mostly around 100 years old as there was a bottle dump here in this river and they have in the main gone to a collecting relative of one of the divers. I only keep the stone ginger beer ones. There was also a blacksmith next to the river from which lots of scrap metal was dumped. Additionally a lot of stuff has been thrown off the bridge over time. We do retrieve anything that is dangerous and a fair amount of general rubbish too however a full river clean up would not be possible both in the amount of stuff down there (I could fill a sack in the first ten metres and it stretches for miles) and also the silt and mud which drops visibility very quickly - it's never really all that clear anyway. It would actually require mechanical dredging but this isn't possible due to access. Also, at the one site where there is the most stuff on the riverbed, we wouldn't bother diving it if there was nothing to see (that's why we mainly dive there, it's fascinating!) and as this is mainly 'historic' junk it's of interest to those interested in the past. It's also become an important part of the habitat with flora and fauna living on, in or around it. It's a fine balance between doing what we feel is best and doing what we feel is right, if that makes sense?

We have brought a lot of stuff out of there but it also provides a habitat.

the clicking noise in the background sounds like you've got a pin hole air leak. possibly an 'o' ring on the way out, most likely on you main reg LP hose as it increases in speed when you take a breathe. lucky that if it does go to rats' you only have to stand up..!! lol
@Codbotherer
@Codbotherer 7 лет назад
Thanks for pointing that out, I'll check things over; I really appreciate you letting me know, could lead to disaster otherwise as I'm not always 'mucking around' in 3m :-) New O ring was put on my DIN insert two days before this dive so possibly that isn't seated properly. However, I have a Sherwood Maximus 1st stage which has a bleed valve on it over the sealed spring chamber which lets out a constant flow of small bubbles. Probably that ( a bit disconcerting when I first noticed it!) ... description here: www.divebuddy.com/blog/10390/sherwood-regulators-1st-stage-one-way-bleed-valves-sealed-spring-chamber-small-bubble-stream/ "Sherwood’s first stage dry air bleed system is now even better. A first stage must compensate for the change in ambient pressure as we descend. Most other brands do this by allowing sea water to enter the first stage to sense pressure against a diaphragm or piston. Of course, sea water allowed to dry inside causes damage to the chrome plated parts inside. Sherwood senses the water pressure internally by converting it to air pressure thru the dry air bleed system. A small flow of air (10 cc/minute) is allowed to escape thru a one way valve, effectively transmitting the pressure to the piston. The result is much longer life and a faster acting pressure regulator. Naturally, it is important to have your Sherwood regulator serviced by a qualified service center that knows the intricacies of the 1st stage. Tell your service guy that a small amount of silicone grease under the one-way valve helps keep it clean and working. Do not let water get into the 1st stage by dunking it in a rinse tank. A light rinse under a spigot is enough (with the dust cap in place!)."

Do you need any permissions to river dive from waterways people or is it just turn up and go like the sea?

Hi! It was Falcon Meadow. Apparently there was a forge or something nearby and a lot of scrap was dumped in the river there. I'm hoping to dive there again in the next few weeks when the water clears a bit more
